I hear this clicking/ticking noise on the driver side front wheel or somewhere there whenever i reached 40mph and up. Car drives straight and no weird anything, just the noise.

But today I had my wife drive the car and take some slow left turns while I listened so I could get a better idea about what the sound was and where it was coming from. From inside the garage and in the car, it sounded like it was coming from the rear but I now know it's coming from the front passenger wheel and it is not a "grinding" sound at all, it's more of a tick-tick-tick/click-click-click sound.
Applying brakes doesn't change the frequency or quality of the sound, but speed does. The faster the wheel turns, the frequencly of the ticking increases. It doesn't appear to tick/click only once per revolution, it clicks a number of times throughout the rotation and at some points during the rotation it clicks more often than others. Like, tick.... tick... tickticktick...tick...
When going straight there is no noise, turning right, it sometimes might click once or something but it doesn't really happen turning the other way. I've looked at the dust shield around and even tried bending it back a little bit in case it was making contact when I thought it was more of a grind but nothing looks out of place and nothing has been done to the wheel recently other than putting new rims on a couple of months ago.
Wheel bearing? I thought a bad wheel bearing would make noise no matter what direction you're going and pretty much constantly. CV? I thought CV ticking usually only happens at full lock but it ticks even on not so severe turning. Fender liner doesn't appear to be touching the tire, and the car isn't dropped and is AWD so there's plenty of clearance.
So, is this a trip to the dealer? I'm only under powertrain... not sure if something is up if it would be covered. I think wheel bearings are, but not sure about other suspension parts that might cause this.
Twice I have made this happen. It is a right turn at about 5 mph, there is bump from blacktop to pavers. I have my foot slightly on brake during turn. Then the front left wheel emits this rapid clicking noise until I nearly come to a stop.
View 3 RepliesMy daughter recently got a '92 f-150 SCAB 4x4, 302 w/ E4OD. The trans needed new seals in the front pump, so I did those and replaced the filter and fluid while at it. Now it runs fine, but it makes a nasty ticking or clicking noise. It is definitely coming from the front of the trans. I was thinking it was a cracked flexplate, so I pulled the inspection cover yesterday, but could not see any cracks. I have heard that sometimes you cannot see the cracks, as they are tiny, or around the crank bolts, which are not visible from the inspection cover. Is this the case? Also, could the torque converter be the culprit? I haven't heard of this kind of noise coming from the TC, but then, I've dealt mainly with manuals.
View 7 RepliesOur 2011 w/140,000 miles has a variable front end noise that I suspect from past experience with other vehicles is a bad wheel bearing. I've seen posts of the procedure for replacing the Gen 2 bearings that requires the hub and bearing be pressed out and new bearing back in which would limit the DIY'er, but looking at the replacement parts diagram for the Gen 3, it appears that the hub and bearing unit is bolted in with 4 bolts and may not need a hydraulic press to install.
View 4 RepliesI just bought a 2012 Camry SE V6 about 2 weeks ago. This week, I have noticed a steady clicking or ticking sound coming from the passengers side front wheel (or so it sounds to be from there). Not feeling any vibrations or anything like that and I have checked the tire(s) for rocks or nails to no avail. The sound is not present at speeds lower than 50mph (that I can hear anyways) and seems to get slightly louder in volume as speed increases from 50mph (though there is no increase seemingly in frequency of the sound) and if the passengers side window is up it cannot be heard at all. What was the ultimate solution? I want to be able to drive my Camry with pride but it's hard when all I can hear is the ticking noise with my windows down.

When i turned my wheels to the right or to the the left the front driver wheel makes loud noise like tick tick tick.. when i put my wheels straight no noise at all.. It happens when i go forward or backwards turning my wheels to the right or left..
View 13 RepliesI just started hearing a ticking sound in my drivers side rear wheel. It sounds like a pebble in the tire at low speeds and as you get faster it makes loud road noise in the car, almost like a whoosh whoosh sound. Took it to a local auto shop and they said it was a stuck brake caliper and possible wheel bearing. After driving I felt each rotor and that one was considerable hotter then the others. Everything else about the car is fine, drives well with no vibrations and brakes well. Jacked the wheel up to see if the wheel was loose from a bad bearing, but it was not loose. The shop, however, can not locate a caliper saying it was on national backorder. Does this sound like a bad caliper and is it normally hard to find parts? I'm trying to avoid going to a dealer because of price, but that maybe may only option. The car has 90,000 miles.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2001 ram 1500 4x4. For the past 2 weeks, when I touch the brake pedal I can hearing a ticking noise coming from the front driverside wheel. The ticking frequency is speed dependent. I had the brakes replaced, and the shop could not find the ticking noise. The truck performs get and there are no braking problems other than the ticking sound, but now for the strange part...
My abs and brake light are now coming on. However, as soon as my abs and brake light come on, usually on the freeway around 65mph, the ticking noise from braking is gone. So with no abs and brake light, brand new brakes tick at the slightest touch of the brake pedal, with the ticking freq. equal to wheel revs.
With abs and brake light on, no ticking. Plus the shop said that I only have abs in the rear.
Over the last few days I've noticed a clicking noise coming from the front driver wheel. This clicking has been getting louder, everything seems in check, no crazy vibrations, or vering side to side and all lugs are tight. The clicking stops when the break is applied, could this be break pad warning chippers? I have yet had time to take wheel off and look.
View 6 RepliesI have a clicking sound coming from the front right wheel, happens while driving straight or turning. My guy checked the cv boots, axle bolt, various other connections that seem fine. Then he takes a phrase out of Satan's handbook and says "take it to the dealer". I saw the horns on his head and the red eyes while he was saying it. So I made apt for next week. I don't think it's anything serious , Orr maybe it's something to do with the rotor, caliper, break pads ? Everything else seems tight.

View 5 RepliesI've got a problem that has the dealer stumped. 2010 Prius TWO with 67,000 miles. While gently braking in the final stages (<10mph) and turning, a ticking can be heard from the left front brake. It is a very fast ticking, and is proportional to speed. The frequency of the ticking is very fast, think of holding a pin into the cooling fins of the brake rotor.
I had it at the dealer last week. They had it for 2 days, with the service advisor, manager, and director all driving it and listening. They ended up replacing the wheel bearing. No luck unfortunately. They've had the entire brake assembly on the floor and reassembled, no change. Tightened all suspense links, no change.
The circumstances are:
- mild braking
-anything more than just a slight turn (maybe only to the right?)
-slower speeds (<10mph)
I have had this intermittent clicking noise from the front left wheels. It sounds almost like a rock wedged in the tread but its not. I checked and the tire is clean. I inspected as much as I can see but see nothing abnormal. Any clue what the deal is?
I stared having the noise right after having the front left tire replaced and it seems to happen when the brakes are hot. I don't hear it in the morning or if I let the car cool down and drive it an hour or two later. My brakes are original rotors at 74K miles and the pads are probably in the 45K range . Not sure what the deal is but it drives me crazy when I can hear with the windows down ( I live in AZ its still in the 70s). I had an issue like this with my GS350 but cant remember what fixed it or what the issue was .
Truck has 1800kms on her, pretty much brand new but there is an odd clicking noise on the front drivers side wheel when I adjust the steering from left to right and vice versa. Its quiet if I am going straight, but it sounds like there is a linkage loose. Its not too loud or noisy, but having problems with tierods/knuckle assy?
View 1 RepliesI have an 04 WRX, I've upgraded the suspension (1.5" - 1.75" drop front and back respectfully) and have a full set up of strut tower braces. Recently when accelerating from a stop, I get a clicking noise from the passenger front wheel area, I hear it all the way through first, second, and most of third...the sound is probably present after that but my exhaust drowns it out. My first choice of problem is that the CVs have gone, the car has 140k on it...

I mostly hear it when my foot is off the gas and I'm just coasting (usually at slower speed). Also, it gets louder (worse) and is accompanied by what sounds like a rubbing when I take turns.. Is it axle bind? Or should I be concerned?
View 1 RepliesI recently purchased a 2015 Elantra a few months ago and I have noticed a couple times now that when I'm driving along and hit the gas when I'm trying to pass someone or speed up in a hurry that it just revs high but doesn't catch until it revs back down. Is this a normal thing these days or could it be a problem? It's an auto. Also the other day I had the window down and I heard ticking noise sounded like it was coming from the front left but it followed my speed. Hit the brakes and it didn't change but it slowed down when I slowed down. Then I turned and it stopped and haven't noticed it since but I haven't really gone too far.
View 3 RepliesI bought a new 2011 Outback about 3 weeks ago, and I have around 1500 miles on it.
A couple days ago I started noticing a clicking noise near the right-front wheel area whenever I turn for the first time after I start the engine (releasing handbrake, shift to Drive, etc). This happens only one time per drive, and mostly after I turn to the right for the first time. After hearing that sound, the next time I will hear it is only after I park and shutdown the engine and restart.
Noticed a clicking noise when only turning left out of a parking lot today? What this could be? Sounds like it was coming from the driver side front wheel?
View 2 RepliesMy car is 2 months old. About one week ago, I began hearing a subtle clicking sound when turning the steering wheel fatter than 45 degree on either side. At first I thought it came from the turning signal mechanism doing "double clicks" since it sounded merely the same albeit being a bit quieter, but now I think it emanates from just behind the steering wheel.
Since then the problem got worse, not louder but more frequent. Maybe its just me being more aware and looking for it, I don't know. Also this weekend I changed my set of wheels for 18" with low profile tires, coming from the stock 16" vw mags. May not be related since the problem started before I changed the wheels, but since it got worse.
