There is a chirping sound coming from the engine of my 2010 Prius. It sounds like a really fast bird chirping and my guess is its probably the serpentine belt. It is there as soon as I start car and the engine is running. 80k miles.

When I accelerate a I hear a noise (it sort of sounds like a cricket rapidly chirping, only a lower pitch or maybe a phone on vibrate).
What this could be?
I am getting a strange chirping sound from the engine (during idle) on my 7 month old RX350..Is this pretty common ... experienced a strange howling engine sound when you accelerate the car( E.g. when you are going at 30 mph and want to speed to 60 mph), I can hear this when I turn off all the noise (radio) and drive on a quiet street...
View 14 RepliesGetting a chirping noise from the engine? It started happening yesterday but quickly went away. Today it's been happening more. It seems to be coming from something that looks like a metal bowl on both sides of the engine. I took it to the dealer once but it wasn't making the noise when it got there so nothing they could do about it. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow when its light outside.

View 10 RepliesI have a 2010 Corolla S Got it brand new in november of 2009. Its been 5 years since I had it and never had this problem.
So this has been happening for a month now, and I can't figure out what it is? It only sounds at first startup of the day when the engine is cold and only sounds off for 1 second right when you start the car.
My car has been making this chirping noise for a couple weeks now, and I can't figure out what is causing it. It's really bothering me.
The noise is sinked in with the rpms. While in neutral or while I have the clutch in, the noise stops. The higher the rpms I'm running, the faster the sound goes. I opened the hood the other day to see if I could figure it out, but all I found out from that is it sounds like it's coming from under the engine cover.
Engine? Maybe a component near it? Maybe it's just the cold weather constricting parts to a smaller size?
I have a 2006 Touareg with the V6 engine.
Recently, the oil light / shut engine off light came on, and during deceleration, an odd chirping noise was heard.
Oil level is fine. Previous owner claims to have had it changed every 6k with full synthetic. What the culprit might be?
I was wondering if this problem is the "Barking" noise that keeps coming up the search or is it another problem. I will include a link to the video down below.
To start off, the Prius is 2010 Prius II and has 120k miles on it. Great Car. Only other problem was AC compressor dying at 90k.
The chirping noise happens when the brake pedal is pressed and does not go away until the release the pedal. It makes the noise regardless of whether the car is on or off.
It makes the noise when the car is stopped and or when the mechanical brake engage at between 0 and 6 mph.
Noise does not occur when the brake switch is removed. Not valid solution since the brake lights will stay on. It does not affect the performance of braking.

Only on the lowest two settings fan makes a chirping noise, it is a lot worse with the colder weather. It has been going on for over a year now and when I get the oil change I bring it up and they refuse that they hear anything... Finally made appointment for it and they still claim they hear nothing. It sounds exactly like the link here on YouTube... there is also videos on YouTube with tacoma's with the same problem but there is a Toyota Service Bulletin for it.

This started before the incident I will be reporting in my third thread, so I do not attribute this noise to that incident. The noise seems to come from applying the brake when the car is already stopped or nearly stopped. Its a bit of a chirp, but it is a low-throated chirp. It think they come in twos, "chirp, chirp."
View 6 RepliesI own a 1999 F-150 V6 4.2 and would like solving what sounds to be a chirping noise coming from the engine. Noise is pretty consistent at which occurs at first startup while in park, drive or reverse and definitely every time I hit the gas from a standstill. The noise is pretty faint but bothers me just enough to where I want to ask the experts. Anyway noise began roughly days after I washed down the motor. I sprayed some degreaser on it and was very careful - making sure to cover the fuse box, alternator and high flow k&n intake air filter.
I stayed away from cables and just used a garden hose. Recently I had the lower idle pulley bearings replaced, serpentine belt and alternator. When I took to Ford for a new belt (it was old) and to inspect the chirping noise, they said # 6 spark plug was loose and that was the reason for the chirp (they called it a ticking noise). First of all how does a spark plug just come loose? They hand tightened it back and I drove the truck for less than a week then the noise was back. Any possibility this sounds like something specific that is wrong? My research says that it could be anything from the belt tensioner to the cam sychronizer to the heat shield around the cat converter.
There is a pretty loud continuous clicking noise lasting about 30 seconds (not necessarily a bad one - just annoying) that comes on every thirty seconds to a minute when I'm driving my Prius. It happens more often now than it did 10,000 miles ago.
It also happens without fail for a few seconds every time I brake. Is this a normal noise? I fear it may be associated with the brake actuator--which the chirping noise is associated with.
If I press firmly on the brakes (which is rare), they chirp. Toyota released a bulletin on it. TSB BR001-07
I've taken on repairing my mother in laws '07 Prius after a drive-shaft broke and once at the dealers the quote was heading towards £2k with the worn discs/pads and leaking water pump added on. The discs and pads were a breeze and a drive shaft should be with me on Monday (it broke off in the outer cv, probably due to being hammered into the hub after a backstreet garage changed the spit boot) but the water pump or should i say coolant is proving tricky. I drained coolant from the rad and back of the petrol engine block and got about 2.5l or 3 quarts. I then removed the leaking pump, virtually no coolant came out of the pump housing and I fitted the new pump.
To refill the system I open the breather on the rad and slowly replaced all the fluid. I also refilled the petrol engine reservoir and put a drop in the inverter reservoir but that had not drained out. I reckon near enough the same amount went back in as came out. I read a post by Pat Wong and started the petrol engine in inspection mode and it seemed to run fine but just cut out after around 4-5 mins.
All along the VSC, ABS, yellow exclamation mark in circle and yellow square with sliding car in warning lights were on but not the big red triangle or yellow engine light. Also, the red exclamation in circle (handbrake?) will not go off. The inspection mode procedure still works but there seems a long delay with chirping sounds before the engine fires. It still runs fine but again cuts out after a few mins. Could it be shutting off due to brake/driveshaft issues or has air crept into the inverter? Maybe disconnecting the battery for five mins will reset the lights?
I have used this forum to look up everything I've needed to since I bought my 05 F250 FX4 6.0 brand new. I was pulling our brand new camper in 100* heat. I began to hear a clicking from the truck from the engine compartment that would be right by the turbo. My engine started overheating, but I had no smoke (black or white). The engine cooled down after I was done climbing the hills, but I had feathering from by the air cleaner and the clicking/chirping was still present.
I pulled over to let the truck cool and checked my coolant reservoir. While pulling over, I lost accelerator pedal responsiveness. The turbo was also engaging a lot. I pulled over. Put the truck in park, but left it idling. As I was looking around under the hood, the truck died. I have not been able to start it. (This all happened Saturday). The truck is 20 miles from home, and I've been out tinkering every day. Here is what I know:
1) I have 48 volts to the FICM.
2) I have tried to start it early in the morning and in the evening when temperatures were low.
3) When I crank, I do get oil pressure from the instrument cluster.
4) The oil level is at the correct markings on the dip stick.
5) Using my scanguage II, I have verified an IPR reading of 14.8. As I crank, it goes up to 84.7. My ICP reading is all over the place. It always gets to above 500, yet it with the key off - engine off, I get a reading higher than zero. With the key-on I go from 300 to 500 and to over 1000 with out the think even hinting at starting.
6) I have oil in the oil filter housing.
7) I have fuel in the upper fuel filter housing bowl.
8)The batteries and alternator have all passed load testing.
9)I tried to start the truck with the ICP disconnected, and didn't have any luck.
10) I have no codes set or pending.
I am at a loss. I don't want to start throwing $$ at various parts.
I have a 2012 3.5 eco boost. It has 82,000 miles. I just purchased a large travel trailer. That is the first thing I have ever towed. When I was accelerating onto the interstate the engine started making a chirping noise.( not the normal turbo whistle). It went away when the rpms came down, and now every time I accelerate, it makes the same noise around 2000-2500 under load.
View 6 RepliesOur 2015 Prius 4 with 8,900 miles just suddenly stopped chirping and turning the lights off upon locking. The courtesy lights also no longer work (the lights worked last night as I approached the car but not tonight. The locking chirp/beep worked 3 hours ago but not now. Also headlights no longer go out after double clicking lock on either of the 2 fob.)

View 14 RepliesOn my 2010 Prius ll when the engine kicks in, is it normal for the engine to sound noisy, almost like a diesel. It's embarrassing because the car is noted for bring quiet. Is it not? It was like that when I got it, and I took it back and they checked it out, but apparently they thought it was ok. I'm thinking of taking it back again. Just a little over 4000 miles on it.
View 8 RepliesAt first it was leaking coolant very slowly,then making the rattling engine noise at low rpm then a part flew off while on the highway gushing out oil. Time for a new used engine. Planning on diy if all else fails off the junker. 230,000 miles on odo.
View 19 RepliesI bought a used Certified Prius with 49k miles on it. I noticed when accelerating (and the display shows that I am using the ICE but not so much that it shoots up into the "Power" portion on the far right) that the there is a clicking noise coming from the front passenger side of the car.
It sounds very much like this:
I don't hear it when only the electric motor is running, and I don't hear it when I really punch it and the power meter is completely filled up. Its more when the power meter is in the middle of the display and the ICE kicks in and I am slowly accelerating.
