I just found out that the beeps that i hear when in reverse is only for people in the car to hear. outside of the car, with the doors closed, i cannot hear anything. is that by design or is there something wrong?
i would think the beep (for those who changed it from the default) or continuous beeps would be useful to warn whoever may happen to be behind the car since the prius is dead silent at times.
I received a free keyless remote for the passat from a friend and would like to program this remote to my car. I tried the method that everyone is talking about online, which is to turn the ignition to the "on" position with one key (w/o starting the car). Then put another key on the driver side door and turn to unlock position and hold until 3 beeps. I've held the key for over a minute and still don't hear any beeps. What am I doing wrong?
View 12 RepliesAfter stepping over gas pedal revving up, when I release the gas pedal I can hear the engine revving up some more instead of slowing down.
When I release the pedal, the engine is still making the noise as if I am stepping on the gas harder for about 3 seconds. when this happened, EV mode will be always not available, and gasoline consumption is increased. Getting lower MPG.
I am curious; is it NOT suppose to beep when BSM has detected a car and you try to put blinker on? Mine just blinks the icon on the mirror, which is not nearly as noticeable as a audible sound. Also, what about the backup camera? Obviously, this car has sensors... but why don't the beep?
View 12 RepliesMy backup camera seems to have all of a sudden lost its aim such that the alignment marker is higher on the right than it is on the left meaning that the edge of the bumper is higher on the right as well. It just happened all of a sudden and seems to be pointed a little to the left. Any way to adjust it or is this one for the 5K mile checkup?

I have a 2011 Prius Three. After about a month of owning it, I had the dealer disable the back-up beeping so it only beeps once when backing. I'd like to disable the "key not detected" beep.

I'm pretty sure this is new behavior the past week or so. Whenever I open the door, whether finishing a drive or entering the car from outside, the car beeps once as if it is trying to get my attention for something. This happens when the car is off (I always press the power button before opening the door)
I do not see any warning lights or anything obviously wrong; what is the significance of this beep?
The technician at Toyota showed me the options. You could either have a continuous beep or the intermittent beep, but you do not have the option of turning it off. I told him it was possible, but how?
View 19 RepliesOccasionally my Prius will give me a quick what sounds like a warning beep after I turn on the car and after it has "booted up." It has only happened a handful of times over the last year or so. The only thing that seems to be in common is that it happens when my car is parked out in the hot sun for sometime. I especially notice it on long trips.
I recall it happening on a trip to Disney last year (really hot) and a trip to Niagra falls this year (fairly hot 90+ degrees). I don't notice any warning lights going on or, if they do, they are gone by the time I look at the dash. It may not be heat related, but what the beep may be?

View 2 RepliesOn my 2010 prius, I recently had my windows tinted. Seems I have lost the single beep when locking the doors. I still get two beeps when unlocking. I also get the double lock when I put the car in gear. But I am having no issues with any of the door locks sticking. smart key isn't working as it was. When I walk up the the drivers door, the inside light would illuminate, that does not happen now.
View 10 RepliesI sometimes manually cut the headlights on during the day and I noticed that there is no bell or dinger that alerts me that they're on when the car is cut off. I assume the lights will cut themselves off after a period of time? Just concerned I might kill the battery if I don't notice I left them on.

Believe it or not i even like the backup beep which is kind of like a nice confirmation of "yo, dude! we are going backwards" but the most important one for me is the long single loud beep. happened the other day when i got out of my car to get a coke and the car emitted a continuous loud shrill beep as i started to walk away. I was still in drive.

I've found info on turning off the seat-belt warning beep, and changing the reversing beep to single by using the OBDII connector, but nothing on the CAN bus codes needed for the lock/unlock beeps.

View 11 RepliesWe have a few dozen '10 Prius' at work. When I make stops and get out of the car, I like to lock my doors while the car is running so nobody can steal anything inside the car. I tried closing the door and touching the handle on both sides but I just get a long beep tone which lasts about 10 seconds. And sure enough, the door doesn't lock. I hate leaving the car unlocked and I'm used to our old cars where you were able to take the key out of the ignition and lock the doors while the car was still running.
