My '13 Prius Four has started to make a really annoying buzzing sound from the rear while driving. It can be heard inside the car but seems to be louder for passengers in the rear.
View 8 RepliesMy car had been sitting in the garage for over 5 hours after short drive this morning. I went into the garage ( without the FOB ) and heard a strange buzzing sound. After walking around I determined it was coming from underneath the rear of the prius. I opened a couple of doors and the hatch and the sound was definitely exterior not interior and continuous.
I don't know how long this had been going on but it was continuous for at least four minutes. I thought the best thing to do would be to take the car for a short spin. I went inside the house to get the FOB and returned to the garage - the noise was still there? I approached the right rear bumper to get a better listen and it stopped suddenly. I guess the difference was the proximity of the FOB?
I have a 2010 model and have had this issue for the past year. When I open the drivers door I get an immediate buzzzzz sound from the engine that can last 10 to 30 seconds or so. What is this???
I believe it is somehow associated with ignition issues This last winter (in Texas) I have had to push the start button sometimes several times before the engine would startup. I brought it into the dealer and left it overnight. Of course there were no problems when they started it the next day. Anyway, I have noticed a worsening of startup problems (none in the summer) along with an increase in this buzzzzz sound. Is it just my imagination?
2005 Prius. 190k miles. In San Diego, so hot summers...not Phoenix hot...90s. Mild winters. No san or salt on roads.
5k oil and filter regularly. Got new HV battery at 142k. Changed the coolant switching valve done . Coolant pump changed under Recall. Steering midshaft done. Front pads replaced at 120k. Rear shoes getting very close to replacement. Trans fluid change at 120k per manual and at 190k. Plugs at 120k.
Two new issues: when coasting in N, pretty quiet. Driving or coasting in D, there is a growl. At 35-40 mph, wind noise masks it. Frequency increases with speed. It isn't getting worse. And no better after the transaxle fluid change. Can't be CV or bearings because it only happens when in motion in D. No lights on MFD. I have not looked for codes.
When I shut my driver's door there is a reverberating sound similar to a spring being stretched and then plucked. It closes fine, the window works, and all the functions of the door work. It closes tight. It just has this hollow spring sound right after I close the door. None of the other doors make this sound.
I was at the local Toyota Dealer today for work on the prius (check my other thread about that trip) and I found a gen II prius unlocked... so I got in and closed the door and no spring sound. It sounded just like my other 3 doors... so something must be up with my door. My car is a 2006 Prius with JBL package.
Okay I noticed that after driving My 32 for a long Period of time 1-2 Hours I Get this Weird Buzzing Sound. I couldn't Pin-point on where the Sound is coming from, but you can hear it clearly coming from the front driver side...

My rear right speaker buzzes when sound comes out...I thought it happened mainly in cold weather but I think it may be due to the fact that the door keeps closing and opening...

It was not, and I guessed that there was some other piece of the car that had come loose (similar to a previous incident with my splash guard under the bumper and I just popped it back into place and re-secured the pin).

I have purchased a 2010 III Prius with 73K miles last week after my 2006, everything is fine for me but I have a scary problem , the engine sound is very high while driving even after enough warming up, specially when the ECO meter reaches the PWR area or when accelerating hardly, I tried changing the engine oil with synthetic 0W-20 and the filter and the sound still the same.
Check the video attached and also note that
- Its winter here and temp is 50F.
- The car was imported from the US,
- The speed in the video in KM/h.
- I am using clean OCTANE 95 fuel.
- The video was after driving 20 Miles.
- I have latest version of Techstream with original Mongoose MFC...
I have a 2012 limited (non tech pkg) and I want to see if my speakers are the only ones that have a buzzing to them during cold mornings? Once it warms up, the speakers tend to be better. I have the power bass on low and I usually listen to AM radio in the morning. Kind of hard to explain but there is a buzzing rattle noise when the sound reaches a high point. It isn't a constant noise but rather dependent on the sound.

The car has over 300K miles and the problem started a few months back. At first the sound only occurred while driving under certain load conditions.
The problem would occur at intermittent times. Normally at low speeds with heavy loads (going up hill with low to medium acceleration). Also occurring for a short time when letting off the accelerator. Never occurring at moderate to heavy acceleration. Never at idle. Recently the shaking / raptor noise started to occur while idling.
* This problem is now easily created at idle each and every time the HV battery drops below 2 bars and requires charging. The engine change is immediate and starts and stops in sync with the extra load of the HV battery charge cycle.
Placing the car in the maintenance mode, the car will start and idle normally then immediately start and stop the knocking when it switches from HV charging to non-charging mode. There are no Check Engine light. Things I've done to troubleshoot the problem:
* Swapped the following parts with another working 2010 Prius.
** Coils and spark plugs
** VVT solenoid
** Cam Sensor
** EGR Valve Control
** Fuel Injectors
** MAF Sensor
** MAP Sensor
** Evap Control Valve
* Cleaned the intake manifold (It was full of carbon)
(This was done about a month before this problem started to intermittently appear). Prior to cleaning the intake manifold the car was shaking and misfiring under certain high torque condition and generating a P0304 check engine code). Once I cleaned the intake manifold the problem was fixed. I had no more check engine incidences and the shake was gone.
I just drive my 2011 new Prius class 5 off the lot, and I notice the front driver side or front tire make a lot of noise. Also I turn a low speed I can hear that noise. It sound like a shock noise sometimes and it sound like tire driving on bad surface noise. Pretty much I can hear it all the time the noise is very annoying because my wheel, tire, car is brand new with 49 miles.
I'm asking Prius owner with 17 alloy wheel, do you have the same problem? Or the 15 inch wheel? I test drive the 15 and it was sort of bad but the 17 alloy make a lot of noise. I being to dealer they say it normal because of the big wheel and small tire. The bs to me, on the phone they say they will give me a same car to compare but when I got there there no Model for me to drive.
Normal to have a buzzing sound from the car while parked with the ac on? Its not terribly loud but can be heard inside the car with windows up.
View 13 RepliesI Bought a 09 with 45k miles. I haven't had no issues till my return Trip from the snow, this car is perfect for all the traffic i deal with out here. I normally have my music up loud so i may have never notice it but when I was driving with baby sleeping I started hearing a buzzing sound happen when I braked. This sound was low at the start but now is very noticeable.

No lights are on other than the maintenance reminder light as I currently have 57000 and waiting a little longer before I bring it in for the 60,000 check up.

My Prius is a Gen3 2015 model 2.
Each time I open the driver door, when the car is off, I hear a buzzing coming from the front (left?) of the car. It sounds like something electrical. What is it and is it normal? Assuming it's normal, I like it because it's kind of like the Prius saying hi and it reminds me I now have a unique (and fun) car. But what is it? Am I wasting battery with something I've left configured?

View 11 RepliesOn my 2007 Prius, when I depress the brake to power the car on, it makes a simple, almost welcoming humming/buzzing sound. However, if I do it again within a couple minutes (for example, if I turn the car on to pull up, turn it off, and turn it on again), the noise when I depress the brake is different. When I press it down, it will make no sound for about a second or two, then make a deep 'thud' sound.
