I've been noticing that when I brake more responsively, I feel a bump/notch right before a complete stop. It feels like something that has to do with the transmission.
View 6 RepliesI hit a bump while i was braking and the car felt like it was released from brakes while i still had my foot pressed on the pedal. I tried again on the same bump and it did it again.
View 5 RepliesI noticed that it started recently and does it consistently... When I accelerate from a stop there is a creaking/popping noise that comes from the front of the car. It is difficult to pinpoint but you can make it do it every time and it only happens from a complete stop. My '12 only have 6k on it.
View 12 RepliesI just bought a new 2015 prius a few days ago. After a couple of days of driving it around, I noticed this clunking noise that lasts about 2 seconds while the car's shutting off its gas engine when the vehicle is at a complete stop. It happens more frequently a few minutes after I started driving the car. When the car is coming to a stop and the 'EV' light is not on yet (only 'ECO' light is on), after the vehicle's made a complete stop, I start to hear this clunking noise (it almost sounds like the noise you hear when you press down your emergency break).
After this noise, I feel the vibration and hear that the gas engine's shut off. I talked to the dealership and they hopped in to hear that noise, and as always, it didn't happen. But as soon as I left the dealership, I hear it again. the car is normal when 'EV' light is on when its coming to a stop (no abnormal noise), but its only when the gas engine shuts off after the car has made a complete stop. And the noise is even louder when the vehicle is on a slope, either uphill or downhill.

Back in June I replaced all 4 brakes and rotors. Now all of sudden I hear a loud grinding noise in the front end only when I'm braking to a complete stop.
I took all 4 tires off and then took off the pads. The pads and rotors are all still brand new and have very minor normal wear. Also the calipers still look good.
I then put everything back together and went for a test drive. The grinding noise is still there. It's very loud and only when I come to a complete stop.
I have a 2016 is350. I just took off my is250 exhaust and installed it onto the 350. It is an invidia axle back paired with a tsudo midpipe. Since I have made the switch I have noticed several times after braking and coming to a complete stop within a couple seconds the exhaust "pops" usually 1 time and it is fairly loud. This did not happen on the 250. What is concerning to me is that it doesn't sound like normal exhaust popping/gurgling when slowing down or downshifting it is more of a sudden loud single pop after coming to a stop.
View 6 RepliesI get a grinding type of sound when I am braking but only when I come to a complete stop and then again when I release the brake. It is only for a second but it is loud and doesn't sound good. What could be wrong. It also is much worse when it rains.
View 4 RepliesI wanted to pass along the results of a brake issue I encountered in my 2010 Prius (15K miles) and report to interested Prius owners how the issue was resolved.
Problem: In the last second (or so) coming to a complete stop I noticed a few light clunk type sounds, like something was loose up front. I never experienced any degradation in the braking performance.
Braking at a stoplight tonight, I had the VSC and ABS light come on. I pulled over to a parking lot and shut the car down. I couldn't tell any issues with the brakes at all in the short few hundred feet I drove to pull off. Turned it back on and the lights were no longer on.

The Noise: As I brake harder to the final stop I hear a grind/bump noise. It is hard to describe. It is abrupt and quick. I don't believe it affects the braking just annoying and doesnt sound normal.
My '10 is just over 2 years old now and virtually trouble-free. But since new, I have a noticeable turbine/whining sound slowing to a stop esp while braking from 20mph to a stop. I wrote it off to the motor generator and brake regeneration - hybrid sounds. All fine and well. But I have ridden in two other '10s in the last year and they both seem to make less sounds while decelerating and braking than mine. Is it my imagination or is there something to it? I'd rather not blindly bring it to the Dealer as I'm sure it would get a "normal operation" finding.
1. Is there a TSB out on this by chance?
2. My 3/36 warranty will be up in 10 months. Is there a master TSB listing available on PChat or elsewhere (for free) to check on open G3 Prius TSBs?
This is an issue when I brake over a small bump or pothole. It lurches forward and I feel like I have lost control of the brakes and we are about to crash into the car in front of me. Seems like this is an issue with other Prius years but I thought this was fixed with the v.
View 5 RepliesI bought a new 2012 Elantra in March. Every so often I get a strange vibration through the brake pedal when I'm at a complete stop (red light/stop sign). It happens intermittently and I can't narrow down any exact cause. It happens when the engine is cold, fully warmed up, A/C on, A/C off, only been driving for a few minutes or driving for a few hours. No system lights come on. I've taken the car to the dealer twice and discussed this with them. They've not hooked it up for any diagnostics as yet. I don't think it's a vacuum line, engine or transmission issue because it is intermittent. I also don't think it's a defective engine/transmission mount. Could it possibly be the ABS module?
View 7 RepliesI have had this for a year now. When I first heard it, I thought someone threw something at my vehicle. I would stop then be at the light then about a few seconds to a minute it sounds like a solenoid kicks out or kicks in... its pretty loud, my passengers even question it. I have taken it to the dealership 7 times now and I am getting frustrated as they do not hear anything each time. As I drive with them it doesnt do it... it seems it does it sporatically... Sometimes it does it after I have exited the vehicle and walking off, it goes through its normal electrical noises then clunk clunk... Strange. I have recorded a sound clip but they said they still have to hear it themselves and they believe it has something to do with the elecrical breaking system but they dont want to swap it out as its an expensive part as they want to make sure of it first... I think I am going to take it to another dealer..
View 8 RepliesNow that the weather has warmed up, I'm using AC once in a while. Whenever it is running, when I come to a complete stop, I hear a groan that lasts for about 3 seconds. It vibrates through the brakes a bit. This is only once the car has stopped, and only when AC is on. It goes away after a couple seconds, and is guaranteed to come back on the next time I stop the car. Is this just the compressor cycling on and off?
View 15 RepliesI notice the brakes are very grabby right before you come to a complete stop. This seems to occur more when this brakes are cold. Is this typical with the gen 2's? Mine in a 2005 if that makes a difference. So far with 2k miles on the car I'm not a big fan of the brakes, but everything else I love.
View 19 RepliesJust bought a new 'C.' 35k, and now 271k. After I come to a complete stop it makes a creaking sound like bad bed springs during hard and light breaking. I've baby this car, I love it, and I just want it to last for as long as it can. It's really annoying to hear every time after I come to a stop. Not before, not during -- right after (just like when you make a complete stop at the stop sign or red light, or just stopping in general).
This is supposed to be a brand new car. There's something wrong and it's not a normal thing for Prius's after you've start using it daily. I've never heard it before until today.
I have about 05 with 110000 miles on car and have started to notice that the motor sounds like it is revving up when I come to a complete stop or even hyper miling. I have plenty of juice in battery Not Green and Not Orange. While at a complete stop if I switch from Park/drive/Neutral some times it will then shut off.
View 6 RepliesOn the drive home tonight, I noticed a clicking/ ticking sound coming from the car when accelerating from a complete stop. I would accelerate slowly enough to keep the vehicle in EV mode for the duration of the acceleration. Not sure if this is normal.
View 2 RepliesMy 2012 Prius Two did something odd today that it's never done before. Today, after leaving a meeting, I had two instances where accelerating from a complete stop was met with a delay followed by a jerky and sudden acceleration. This only happened twice out of the dozen-or-so complete stops I made. This only happened on my first couple of complete stops, then never did it again.
Here is some pertinent information:
- Silver Prius, no tint
- Car sat uncovered for about 2.5 hours
- Was 96 degrees outside, not a cloud for miles
- Turned the car on, opened the front two windows for hot air escape
- Turned the AC on to full
- Sat parked but car running for maybe 30 seconds before reversing out of parking spot
- Rolled up windows
- Battery fan was going strong
- No indicator lights came on to suggest an issue
- Happened on my first two complete stops at stop signs
- Never happened again
- Battery fan eventually simmered down
- Have 55,000 miles on the car
My brakes are making a noise like a belt slipping when I'm at a complete stop. The noise only happens when I'm at a stop, brakes work fine. Lift my foot off the brake, noise goes away. Seems to be coming from front drivers side. What should I look for?
