I bought my prius about a month ago and noticed something odd about the door sensor recently. I would place my thumb over the groove of the door handle and hear the beeping noise, but the door is still locked. Placing my thumb again with another beep would open the door. When I first got the car, I only had to do it once.

View 6 RepliesMy BP Prius is under 3500 miles for two months. I don't realize until this morning that paint is scratched like "cat nail whew". I'm the only driver with no long nails and never had that problem with other cars it at less 10 years older car.
View 17 RepliesOne morning last week I opened the car door and it started to beep real loud - like an alarm set off (I don't have an alarm system in my car) - It lasted 30 seconds. I went about driving the car and it ran fine. I stopped at a place - went out and came back to drive out again. As soon as I opened the door the alarm went off again. This time it lasted 20 seconds. I have not had the issue since then -(a week gone). What could be wrong. I know it happened and will happen again. I don't know if battery is low - everything works fine and car is running like a charm. battery indicator shows full when on the road. I can't recreate the problem.
View 4 Replies2013 Prius 4 ... A deer was trying to hitch hike but didn't give me warning before lunging into the passenger door. I found a salvage door that will work. I have switched all the wiring, speaker, locking mechanism and mirror but I need removing the door handle(outside). I suppose the sensor that matches my key fab needs to be transferred to the new door but I can't see how this is done. Looking for the instructions on removing the door handle?
View 2 RepliesAfter the car is parked for a while, when you open the driver side door or just touch the door handle an electric motor starts running. After several seconds it stops. Sounds as though it is running a pump and building pressure or vacuum. Just wondering exactly what it is?
View 19 RepliesI'm fairly certain it's not a dead 12v battery. If when I shut down the car after a drive and immediately turn it back on and off again it makes the beeping noise only when the door is open. If I come back to it, the car's dead. I've done this a few times, the last time was in a parking lot and I was surrounded by cars so I had to jump it from the back.
The only fix I had figured out to avoid coming back to a dead car was to put the car in to gear, either reverse or drive and engage the throttle/roll the car maybe 10-15 feet, then back into the spot and shut it off. Is this normal and is it because I've shut it down too fast before letting it start back up?
My father recently purchased a 2012 Prius 3. To reduce his insurance premiums, he purchased an alarm system, which the dealer installed for him a few days after he first took the car off the lot. Now, when unlocking or locking the car from the driver's door handle sensor or via the remote, it both chirps (not the horn) and briefly sounds the horn twice or once, depending on whether you are unlocking or locking.
The problem is that when the car is unlocked from the trunk or the passenger door (using the door handle sensor with the key in pocket), this does not disarm the alarm, and the alarm will sound when the door is opened. The alarm is only disarmed when using the remote's unlock button or using the Smart Key sensor at the driver's door. One of the major differences between the 3 and 2 trims is that the 3 has Smart Key capability on the front doors and the trunk, rather than just the driver's door but the alarm has negated this benefit, as opening the trunk or passenger door without first unlocking from the driver's door or remote causes the alarm to sound.
Is this normal for a Toyota-installed alarm?
I had my '09 F-150 Super Crew lock punched out on driver side door. To prevent this from happening again, I am replacing that handle with a handle for the rear door that has NO lock. I will no longer have key access to the truck. I am also ordering a spare remote. Is there anything I should consider before following through with this decision? Why I shouldn't do this? Is this a common thing to do?
View 14 RepliesI am a proud owner of a 14' Elantra Sport MT. Did a quick research and didn't find anything that is relevant to my issue. The door handles on the front driver and passenger door panels creek whenever you grab them, whether it is to shut the door or just grab them and give a light squeeze. Definitely not something a new car should be doing.
Another thing, I bought this car down south and am driving it back up to the northeast and during my journey I noticed that the wiper cowl vibrates from the wind, this is very annoying when the radio is turned down. It doesn't present itself until you reach speeds in excess of 60mph. Currently, the car is averaging 38mpg highway!
Just notice that the interior door handle light up amber color at night. Need to modify this bulb on the door handle enclosure? Any complications removing the door panel or other parts to access the bulb? Last of all, what type of bulb?

One small thing that's bothering me, though, is a door handle issue. I tend to open the car door for my girlfriend quite a bit and I've only recently noticed that her door is extremely easy to open. Very little force is needed to pull the door handle with only two fingers. The back doors are the same.
My driver side door is quite the opposite. I always need to pull much harder on that handle, and in some cases if I pull the wrong way I actually have to use force to open it. The only thing I can think of is that it's either just constructed differently as its on the driver door or that I may have actually damaged it a bit when I accidentally hit the lock button on the door as I was opening it. The door actually locked in mid-open and caught the door.
I plan on going to the dealer and testing some other Elantras to see if their driver doors require a bit of pull, and I'd like to hear if anyone else has noticed a difference in opening the driver door as opposed to the other doors? I feel like they should all be silky smooth and require no real effort to open. My driver door just doesn't "pop" open for me anymore.

My exterior driver door handle has stopped working entirely. This means gaining entry on the passenger side door. I'm fortunate enough to have a key-less entry so I don't have to manually unlock. I think the cable is broken.
I always have humidity marks on the black portion of my interior door handle area and it seems like the water that gets in the door doesn't flow out completely. It kinda pools at the bottom in between the 3 small holes at the inside bottom of the door. The drain holes are clean but it seems there is a lip the water gets caught on.

View 10 RepliesI own a 2007 Prius with around 35k miles on it. I got this car about a year and a half ago, and have ever since had a pretty frustrating problem.
Every so often when I park my car and open the door to leave, the car will start beeping incessantly, in the same way that it does if you've left a light on. The only indicators on inside the car are the little red car with the key, telling me that I am in fact sitting inside a car with my keys, and the emergency brake light.
Recently the smaller part of the door handle broke off - we were going to try to superglue it but realized that would be tricky considering the locking mechanism might not work.
Well now 2 weeks later, the door cannot be opened from the outside, even if the door is unlocked. We took the handle off, but now I am afraid to leave it as is, because it would attract a thief to break-in.
Does the handle is completely off can it be "jimmied" open? Is there a way to fix without replacing the entire door handle.
Over the past month or so, my 2012 Prius Three is being strange. I always keep my key fob inside my purse. Sometimes I have to pull the door handle a few times before it will unlock. Other times it will say key not detected when I try to start the car. I will have to try a few times before it will start. Or the strangest thing is, sometimes when I pull over before my husband and I get home, and when he gets out of the car (I have NOT turned it off) it will display the message, key not detected.
The thing is, he does not carry a fob with him, the only key is in my purse, which is inside the car with me. I thought maybe it maybe it was the key fob so I swapped out the fob I was using with the 2nd one we have and it is still happening.
I have a 1995 jeep Cherokee country that has 130k miles. I have notice that when I shift from park to drive, park to reverse, drive to reverse or vice versa It makes this thud noise after placing it in gear. Is this a sign that the transmission is about to go out ? What action should I take? By the way its a automatic transmission
View 1 RepliesLately when I first start up and all the lights on the dash come on I see the triangle with the exclamation point (I don't remember seeing this before). It goes off when the rest of the warning lights go off. Today I backed the car out of the garage and put it in park and turned it off. When I opened the dirver door it beeped, beeped, beeped (like it was backing up). I shut the door and opened it again and it beeped again. I got out and locked it and went in the house. I went back out and unlocked it and opened the passenger door and it didn't beep anymore. I haven't tried the driver door yet.
View 4 RepliesToday I took the car in for the 15k service, I asked them to reprogram the car so that when I touch the driver door handle it would unlock all 4 doors. I went to my car this afternoon and this did not happened as I wanted.
