View 3 RepliesI own 6 Prius', 5 gen 3's one gen 2. The 2011 gen 3 I've had for the longest and its just had a battery failure due to over heating. The garage have managed to get the battery replaced under warranty but they are now telling me the reason for the overheating is due to the cabin air vent that cools the battery gets blocked. They have advised me Toyota do a replacement part that solves this problem (at cost to me, £150) He has advised me to get this done on my other generation 3's. Why are Toyota not cleaning the filter during service and why has this problem not been identified to me earlier?
View 19 RepliesThe scenario: I recently filled up at a station that, according to the attendant, had just lost electrical power but power had been restored. The pump was flowing agonizingly slowly, so I asked the attendant what was up, and he said the system needed 20 minutes or so to reboot before the pumps would flow at the normal rate--sounds kind of specious to me, but I was in no hurry, so I figured so what, I'd wait it out.
Well, eventually the tank filled up, and then some. The pump's auto-shutoff failed to work (my guess is that the flow rate was so slow that the back pressure failed to build up to the point to trigger it, but, whatever...). Gas was dripping everywhere by the time I noticed it (since it was taking so long, I wasn't paying close attention).
I have had my new 2010 Prius for 1 1/2 months, and four times it has failed to go into gear. I depress the brake fully, and push the power button. After the ready light comes on, with the brake fully depressed, I put it into drive, and nothing happens (the display does not indicate Drive and the car doesn't move). It also wont go into R or B. If I press gas pedal, there is no revving of the motor. Pressing park makes no difference either. I try repeatedly for less than a minute. What always works is to shut off the car and start again. It happens when the car is cold or warm.
View 19 RepliesWhy my 2010 Prius has 3 times now failed to stop when brakes were applied on a steep downhill in slight rain? Happened a year apart with no slick road and with tires both new and old. I pull up to a stop sign on a grade, apply brakes, the car slows, then there are metallic noises and the car glides 3-4 feet before stopping. I'm lucky no car or person was in front of me. Honestly not a skid at all. Service tells me I don't know about anti-lock brakes but I've driven with them on cars for many years with nothing like this.
View 2 RepliesI went to the workshop of Toyota in Iraq to repair the car. But do not have engineers repairing Prius cars. And they examine the device to detect faults only... These numbers faults

If my traction battery has plenty of 'juice' in it, and my 12v battery is dead....is there any way to 'jump' the 12 volt battery with the traction battery to get the car started?
View 19 RepliesI changed the battery 6 months ago and twice it has failed to crank since. Is there something draining the battery?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee (115,000) and a 15 month old battery that failed. Gauges read fine, but when I tried to start car when key turned, it was clicking. I turned key off, it kept clicking. I took key out of ignition and it continued to click for about 15+ minutes. During this time I stuck key back in and turned key on (all while still clicking) and my needles on gauges were going crazy back and forth. When I turned the key as if to start, the needles on the gauges went BEYOND their normal scope. Almost a Linda Blair effect. Battery was replaced, alternator check was good and it started up perfectly and immediately. Now, a few days later, it labors a bit before starting. How do I diagnose and electrical problem? By the way, the gauges all the while read straight up and down normal.
View 1 RepliesGot that message popping up in Elantra? It has never happened before, but happened 4 times for me yesterday. The radio works fine, my phone connects via bluetooth, but trying to use anything XM just gets me a solid black screen with the failed to initialize message. I've called the dealer and was told unless the problem was happening when I brought it in, that there wasn't anything they could do.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2010 Ford Escape. A few months ago, my power windows intermittently failed to work. The problem was most acute on the drivers window, but eventually spread. It's now reached a point where none of the windows work at all - neither from the drivers switches nor from the switch in each door. I replaced the fuse, but that's as far as I've gotten. My question is: what should I check next?
View 12 RepliesI have a Motorola Maxx (not the HD model). When I tried to sync to my RX450h, it initially failed. A little online research indicated that I should load an app called "Bluetooth Phonebook" and enable BPAP. Did that and all appeared to go well - all my contacts showed up. However, on closer inspection, several contacts had one of the last 4 digits wrong.
View 4 RepliesIs the Optima D51 battery the best buy for my 2010 Prius and do I need the installation kit too? Is that kit only available from Eleanaid?
View 13 RepliesI own 7 taxi's 5 of them are 2nd generation and 2 of them are 2010's . I have had a couple 2008's that had over 600,000km before they were written off in accidents and the origional battery was still working fine. They certainly were not 100% but still were running ok.
I just ordered a hybrid battery for my 2010 that has 280,000km. Very disappointed. Another taxi broker with our company has 3 2010's and he has replaced the battery in 2 of them.
I talked to a mechanic at Toyota and he says the battery is getting too hot because there is not as good of venting to keep it cool as the 2nd generation has. The 20 hour + days and the battery being so hot compared to the 2nd generation is to hard on the battery.
The 2010's have all had transaxle problems and the 2nd generation never had any work done on the transaxle which was amazing the way we eat transmissions in out taxi's.
Having issues with a 2014 shutting down. Was at a stop light the other day and car completely lost power and shut down. When this happened oil, engine, and battery light came on. Once I parked car and turned off, it restarted. The dealership acted like I had no idea what I was talking about and would like to have some information when I take it back to have this problem corrected the car is not even 2 years old and has 30,000 miles on it.
View 14 RepliesI noticed it literally when pulling off the lot when I bought it. I only hear it when the car is in drive or reverse, only when gas engine is not running. It is a specific pitch hum. It stops when I hit the brake, and begins again as soon as I take my foot off the brake pedal, only when transmission is in gear. My 2010 Prius II doesn't make this noise.
View 7 RepliesThis is my first year driving my prius during a hot season, and for past 3 weeks my mpg has dropped from 49 to 41-43 mpg, and the reason is my traction battery keeps getting HOT! I can hear the battery cooling fan turning on constantly at max when i reach 20 mph, my car doesn't want to start in EV mode the engine just kicks in no matter how light you press the throttle, the EV motor is not assisting with the engine, the infamous slow rpm drop keep occurring and I when to touch the traction battery case and it its HOT, Ive open up the case to check for any dust on the fan and ducts but so far its spotless. I really wished they place an AC vent for the battery because the back passenger area with full A/C doesn't t get as cold as the front dose which doesn't cool off the battery.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2011 prius. Lately after work when i get back in the prius the battery will be half what it was when i parked it in the morning. Is my battery dying already. im at 36,000 miles

Got home from driving. Then 15 minutes later went out to the car to head out again. Car would not start or recognize key fob. One of the two.
Headed back to my computer and researched how to charge key fob. Went back into car, pressed down brake and held key up to start button. Have done a lot of variations of this. The light with the key and car on it was flashing periodically.
Got new battery entirely for fob, installed and still could not start car. Tried the key charging again. Still nothing. At one point I was able to turn the radio on but the display did not come on for the car itself, just the radio and sound.
I've noticed that if I press the EV button when stopped at a stop sign or red light, I can get the vehicle moving up to 25 MPH with the battery. This must save fuel. But I wonder if I am doing something that causes problems with the battery, motor, or other systems.
