Prius (2010-12) :: All Light Switch Off Automatically When Parked?
Jul 13, 2010
Headlights seem to switch off after a minute or two, after engine is powered off and I exit the car (even if I do not lock the car).

View 19 RepliesI'm looking for all my options for a constant or not constant power source to install a switch (an on & off toggle/other) for I could have my emblems light up without using headlights or parking lights.
Basically for you could only see the emblems on at night.
I originally tapped into the side parking lights to use for the front emblems and the rear license plate lights for back emblem.
My 2010 Prius IV has fog lights but no switch on the light/turn signal lever. Did Toyota put them in instead of using a blank. The accessory list shows fog lights on the V only. Would they work if I had a different control lever installed?
View 3 RepliesOn our 2013 Prius II, it seems there are no options to switch off the rear dome light for the 2nd row seating without affecting the front -- the rear dome switch is only 2-positions (ON or ON w/doors) instead of 3 like most dome lights are (like the front). The problem for us is that we have a baby that rides in the back and when baby is asleep and we come home guess what happens.
View 10 RepliesWe just bought a used 2007 Mazda CX-7 in Dec 2010. Three times that I've parked the car, only me, no witnesses, and used the remote lock & alarm set, I've come back to car after shopping to find the two front windows down. The first time I thought I must have left them down but it's happened two more times, twice when it's been at night and cold so that I would not be driving with windows down.
View 3 RepliesMy car is having a problem of passenger side light (low beam) being always on even after turning the switch or engine off. I have to unplug it to prevent it from draining the battery.
I am not too familiar with electrical system on the Prius, but suspect bad relay or something related. Where the relay for the headlight is?
I replaced the 12V battery yesterday with a new one, and the car (2010 Prius Model III w Navigation), will turn on and off, but the ICE is not turning on automatically upon start-up, as it usually does. I can get the ICE to start by stepping on the gas pedal while in park, although it seems to die within a few seconds if I remove my foot.
View 16 RepliesYesterday morning, I woke up to find both windows were down on my Prius after having locked it with the windows closed. A few hours later, I parked the car and after 15 minutes, returned to find the passenger window down.
Why is this happening? I can't risk this occurring again in a rainstorm or in the city. I am sure when I show up at the Prius dealer, I will not be able to recreate the situation.
So, I went to a hotel tonight and gave my car (2010 Prius II) to the valet. When I came out about 4 hours later, a different valet guy said they had a problem with my car and that it had no power. But, somehow, they were able to drive in reverse and park it near the entrance. This must have happened shortly after I left the car with them.
The car would not start, but a dash light was blinking that looked like an outline of a padlock (it was blinking too quickly for me to tell). Also, strangely, the vents were blowing air (albeit, at a very low setting).
Someone with the hotel came out with a battery charger and we hooked it up to the terminal in the front engine. As soon as the battery was attached, everything in my car lit up and I was able to start it up.
When I unlock my car using the fob key, it automatically locks again after around 30 seconds. Is this a common thing and can it be changed?
View 4 RepliesI wanted to know that at the moment my prius does not automatically locks the doors when reaching above 20km/hr as its suppose to.
I went through the manual and tried to turn the power button on and pushing the gear in N and pressing the lock button but it didn't work.
My 2010 Prius was hit while parked. The left side was wiped out and the whole car was pushed sideways about 2-3 inches, with the parking brake on. Toyota checked out the car and said everything looked fine. But there is this odd sounding humm coming from the rear of the car. Toyota says that is normal. Is this true?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2010 Prius. I went out to my car, which was parked in a parking lot, and the hazard lights were blinking. I did not turn them on. I drove home for 20 minutes and could not get them to turn off the whole way. My car sits in my garage with the hazards flashing.
View 2 RepliesSo I use my car as a "work truck" and part of my duties involves stopping at a number of houses(8-12) for 5-15 min at a time and then driving 2-6 miles to the next house.
View 11 RepliesI'm facing a new problem with my 2010 prius, I daily go to work and park my car in sun for 8 hours, when I turn on the car to go back home I feel a laggy response from the engine (the engine responds after 1-2 seconds from pressing the pedal) especially when pressing the gas pedal and reach the power mode area, after 10-15 minutes of driving the problem disappears and the drive gets more smooth.
View 5 RepliesIn the last week or so I have noticed a faint gasoline smell when I pull my 2010 Prius (with 70,000 miles) into the garage and shut it down. I've looked under the hood and not seen anything obvious and there aren't any leaks onto the floor.
View 19 RepliesMy wife left her newer 2013 Prius "on" at work....by this I take to mean she did not hit the on/off button when leaving the car. to turn off the car I asked if it started ok, and she reported yes; however on return from the gym about 3 miles away, she says she noticed the Hybrid Battery bars going down very quickly now and the gas-engine on almost the whole time.
View 12 RepliesWe have a 2010 Prius Type 5 with about 18K miles. I've noticed at times that after having parked the car in the garage for several hours, that there is a soft "whirring" sound on the passenger side rear of the car. I'm assuming this is the battery fan, because it sounds like a fan and I can't think of anything else back there that would make a "fan"-like sound? Is there any other device back there that could make a "fan"-like sound while parked (it's cold weather here, so it's probably around 40 deg. F or less in the garage)? It makes this noise for 5-10 min. and then stops. If this is the battery fan, why would it run when the car is cold?
View 15 RepliesI just bought a 2010 prius (26k miles..prior collision.. so no warranty) for my wife. The battery drains in just 3 days if left unused. I had Toyota install a new battery. Again 3 days left parked and battery was dead.
I locked myself in and measured the consumption. It drains at the rate of 1.1Amps when parked. That looks very high consumption. I want to measure with SKS turned off, but that's going to be tricky. I believe SKS resets when battery is reconnected.
This is the second night in a row that we hear a noise coming from the back of the car. I know that some noises are normal but this is after the car is stopped/parked in the garage for some 5 hours.
View 3 RepliesIf I park the car at the airport for 10-14 days, do I need to disable the remote key fob? I could not find any information on this in the manuel. I have a Prius 2014.
