Today I went in may garage and heard a humming from the rear of my 2014 prius. I assume it is the hybrid battery. This was several hours after the car had been driven. I turned the car on and then off and the humming stopped. Is this normal? I know it is common for it to hum immediately after you turn the car off for a bit, but several hrs later?
View 9 RepliesMy wife left her newer 2013 Prius "on" at work....by this I take to mean she did not hit the on/off button when leaving the car. to turn off the car I asked if it started ok, and she reported yes; however on return from the gym about 3 miles away, she says she noticed the Hybrid Battery bars going down very quickly now and the gas-engine on almost the whole time.

View 4 RepliesIt seems like the fan that cools the hybrid battery pack turns on quite often, almost everyday after two or three hours of driving. I heard it once or twice on my '05, but on this one I hear it pretty much everyday.
View 19 RepliesThis is a first for me. Came in last night after my 140 mile commute and pulled into my garage and turned off my car ('16 IS350F). This morning(approx. 10 hrs.later) I went into the garage and heard a humming noise. I thought it was the refrigerator, but as I walked around the back of the car,it was obvious the noise was originating from the right rear. It sounded(to me) just like the fuel pump running,but that made no sense as it isn't on the "hot" battery bus...ie: it doesn't run until the accessory power is provided. I got in the car and cranked it....let it run for a couple of minutes and shut it down and the humming stopped.
View 5 RepliesSo this has happened to me a few times now in the cold temps. For my job I'm left to sit and idle every now and then after over an hour of driving.
I'll park my car, ICE will turn off, ICE temp at 195. Sit with heat on at 65 degrees. After about 10 minutes the engine temp will drop to about 110, which the ICE will start and warm up to about 135 and turn off. Hybrid battery stays above 55% and normally hits about 65% on every ICE start. (I have extra instrumentation installed to monitor)
I've noticed that after sitting over night my battery for the hybrid system is not charged enough to operate the car in EV or for the first mile or two it does not seem to use as much electric power to supplement the car. After a couple miles it is charged or near charged and I see more use.
View 5 RepliesHow I can charge my hybrid battery while driving on city streets with an average speed of 35-45MPH. Once I get off the highway, the hybrid battery is almost full, only missing two "bricks" or "Bars." I will then accelerate very slowly only using the electric motor to drive the vehicle for the next couple of miles.
Once the battery has depleted to where it only has two bars, I will then accelerate a little faster to run the engine so it can charge the battery. But, I bring up the energy monitor and then watch the arrows.. making sure that arrows are coming out of then engine to drive the vehicle AND making sure that the electric motor is not supporting the engine.
Recently I started to hear engine pinging/knocking-like noise when the hybrid battery level becomes low like two bars and the car starts a charge cycle. I also hear it occasionally when I accelerate on uphill. Is this normal or should I take it to a mechanic?

Tonight, I accelerated quite slow after the last stop to stay on battery, but I noticed the battery bars got down to 2.
Got to wondering, if I do this a lot, might it shorten the traction battery life such that it fails at 11 yrs, for example, instead of 14 years?
I've owned a 2014 Prius Four (not IV, Roman numerals were for model year 2010) w/o Nav for just about a year now. I've encounter this mysterious condition three times now where when I turn on my car, all I see on the front displays are the READY light on the far left and the mini-display that shows the shift pattern.
* Both the speedometer/fuel gauge display on the left of the shift pattern display and the "Hybrid status" display on the right of the shift postion display are OFF.
* The car operates normally (it's not in a limp-home mode).
When I first encountered this issue and reported it to my local dealer, they suggested I take a video of it with my smartphone. I did so the car (and a copy of the video) is now at the dealership.
The second and third times this issue came up, I took videos and did some additional testing.
- When these two displays are OFF, there is no backlight to the climate control LED display underneath the stereo...
- I normally drive the car with the headlamps in "AUTO" mode. When you shift the headlamp switch to "DRL off", the two missing displays automatically power on. In any other position (Auto, corner marker lamps only, or headlamps ON position) the two displays in question turn off.
- The issue isn't with me accidentally turning the dimmer switch too low. When the dimmer switch is set to max low and the dash light sensor is covered (emulating complete darkness outside), all three displays on the dash (including the shift position display) are barely visible/look off. As the service advisor saw in my video, that's not the case.
This is clearly a safety issue ("you cannot tell how fast you are going" and "you cannot tell easily how much gas you have left without going through the infotainment display) so for now the dealership at least seems to be on my side in that something needs to be repaired. The good news is that now that the issue has been documented in my service history, they did comment that it will get fixed eventually even if the issue comes back after test. For now, the dealership is stumped so they asked Toyota for guidance on what parts to try replacing.
Not sure if my 13' rx350 is haunted. Went in the garage (car had been sitting for hrs) and heard this pound humming. Checked everything in the garage and kneel down near driver side /passenger door and could hear the humming coming from under the car. Checked to see if the radiator fan was running ..nope. This has occurred on 2 occasions that I know as it seems to be random so I am concerned if I take it to dealer I'll get the "can't duplicate"...

Car will not power up, no dash controls illuminate when fob is inserted and start button pressed.
Can I rectify this problem by jumping the accessory battery with a 12V power pack make to just art ordinary cars.
Can it be main battery that is the problem. It is the original 12 V battery.
The battery in my remote appears to be getting exhausted quickly.
The fist time it happened was in 2014 when batteries on both remotes got spent. (for a 2011, I figured that it was normal).
I picked up a 8 pack from Amazon and replaced batteries on both remotes but the frequency of exhaustion has increased dramatically.
I'm still trying to decide whether to get a Prius. I'm looking at a 2014 new III. Question: My friend who has a 2001 Prius (whose original hybrid battery is still going strong, by the way) says that if she does not drive her Prius for 2-3 weeks, her starter battery will need a jump. Is that particular to Priuses, or do all newer cars with the keyless entry and/or theft deterrent do that?

5 hrs after shutdown i head something running under the car,, was louder under the car vs listening thru the inside,,, sounded like a fuel pump or small fan.
I am the new owner of a 2014 Avalon Hybrid limited.
I am pretty exited about the new car. I just have questions about the hybrid battery.
I got the car on Saturday and we drove about 40 miles to get home. The car had 12 miles so it's pretty low. The battery was low when we got the car so the engine charged it up a bit. By the time we got home, the hybrid battery never got to fully charge.
Hence my first questions.
What are the perfect conditions to fully charge the battery?
How much time would it take to fully charge it?
Then, my next question.
I was pretty sure that when we parked the car on Saturday night and Sunday, the battery charge level was pretty high. At least half way.
However, when i got to use the car in the morning, the battery level was at 2 bars to my surprise.
Is the battery supposed to deplete like that?
After an oil change at the dealership, I checked the oil level in my garage after the car was parked overnight. The level read way past the maximum fill line.
