just purchased 2013 Persona, where I could tap power for the DVD headrests that I plan to install, when shipment arrived. I thought about looking in the fuse box, but I am a vehicle newbie. I will be installing the headrests myself, but am clueless as to where to tap for power. I want the headrests to be powered only with the key in the ignition.
View 2 RepliesMy car had been sitting in the garage for over 5 hours after short drive this morning. I went into the garage ( without the FOB ) and heard a strange buzzing sound. After walking around I determined it was coming from underneath the rear of the prius. I opened a couple of doors and the hatch and the sound was definitely exterior not interior and continuous.
I don't know how long this had been going on but it was continuous for at least four minutes. I thought the best thing to do would be to take the car for a short spin. I went inside the house to get the FOB and returned to the garage - the noise was still there? I approached the right rear bumper to get a better listen and it stopped suddenly. I guess the difference was the proximity of the FOB?
If I crank up the back speakers, passengers can hear them a little better. Is it the speakers or just my car? What is the simplest upgrade to fix the sound?

Whenever I get out of my car for a few minutes, I keep the engine running, so what I do is, I keep the Smart Key inside the car, and remove the physical key trying to lock the doors from outside (I do this to keep the car cool from inside because the heat in my country is scorching!)...what I found recently is that as I do this, only the driver door gets locked, and all the other doors are still unlocked...I don't know if this is a fault or standard....
Just bought a 2005. My wife had turned the car on and had the heater on while I was loading groceries. Then I got in, hit the power button, and the console turned on (though I don't think 'ready' came up), and several of the dash lights came up as amber. ABS, VSC, and 3-4 others. I couldn't shift. After 20 seconds or so of confusion, I turned it back off, sat for a second, and turned it back on again - worked fine.
View 9 RepliesI have a Toyota Tacoma 2006 which lacks all the gadgetry and techno-wizardry of the Prius C model three (which I just purchased). Yet the moment I lock the truck with the key fob, if the headlights were left on they turn off instantly, allowing me to walk away with peace of mind that I won't return to a drained battery. I love this feature on my Tacoma because I can leave my lights on pretty much all the time which allows me to pull out of the lighted parking garage in the evening without driving for multiple city blocks unaware that my lights are off.
My issue: I just bought the Prius C to work more efficiently consume gas during my 60 mile commute, and I'm surprised to discover that the headlights just remain on even when turning off the car and engaging the locks/alarm.
Someone told me that they supposedly go off after 20 minutes but I'm not comfortable walking away from the vehicle and trusting that this will happen.
Is there a way to ensure that the headlights go off when the car is powered off and the locks/security system is activated? If there's a "window" of time that it takes, can this be adjusted?
BTW, averaging over 50 MPG each way to work despite the "47 MPG HWY" EPA estimate...
I replaced brake pads on my 05 Prius Monday. The instructions I have say to pull 2 relays and pump and hold the brake pedal until I hear a buzz. This has worked fine the last time I did the brakes. This time I got the Brake, Parking brake,VSC and ABS lights when I powered up.
I did not open the hydraulic system, just push in the pistons. I test drove it then touched the brakes. The left front and right rear rotor/drums were hot but the others were not. Long story short, I want to reset the ABS system.
Unlike the full-size Prius I used to have, the c seems to have a speaker somewhere under the hood which makes a buzzing/grinding noise when the car is powered by battery rather than by the engine. Is there a relatively simple way to disable this? I miss 'stealth mode' actually being stealthy. Possible to disable the EV mode 'growl'?

View 5 RepliesWife was driving 2008 w/70k miles, powered off completely in middle of street, coasted into parking lot. No warnings or lights on dash. Unable to shift to park. Won't power on to acc mode even. Interior lights etc work fine. Battery measures 13.6, 14.2 at front terminals? Slight burning smell from engine compartment possibly right side. Disconnected battery for hard reboot, no change. Unable to read codes as won't power on.
View 19 RepliesMy 2011 Prius has delayed headlight turn off, which is nice once in a very great while. I have looked through the manuals but have not found any method to remove the delay so headlights just go on and off with ignition, like my 2006 used to do. There is nothing on the headlight/turn signal arm to adjust, so assume delay is "hard wired" into the Prius software. Of course I can turn headlight switch on off every time, but wondered if there is a delay kill.
View 9 RepliesBeen having a problem starting the car (2010 T Spirit - 25k mileage RSH) in the mornings for about 3 weeks. When you power on, the dashboard lights up most options and the power light goes amber with no engine start.
This can take 5 or 6 attempts before getting the engine to start and then half the dashboard like the clock etc will not light up for that journey. Subsequent journeys that day are ok but the issue returns for the first start every day.
To install my FLIR system I need a 12V power supply, ideally switched with my Gen III's ignition switch. Where in the engine compartment can I find that?

I do use ev and Eco most of the time.
Headlights on 2013 Prius too dim. Any good aftermarket headlight assembly for 2013 Prius with stronger bulbs. Have tried HID bulbs, not much improvement. Have seen this issue mentioned elsewhere.
View 12 RepliesI'm having an issue on my remotes (2) I recently try and lock the doors with both remotes and sometimes it does not respond. I changed the battery 2 days ago and still having the issue. I will have to hit the remote 5 times next to driver's door to lock sometimes. Other times it's fine.
View 5 RepliesI just traded in my 2006 Prius with a 2013. I live in the country and always have to deal with mice. The 2013 has so many exposed wires whereas the old one did not. Is there any suggestion on sealing them and creating some barrier. I'll send a picture if needed but one circuit board has lots of tiny and tasty looking wires on top. It doesn't seem like much protection but also looks incredibly fragile.
View 6 RepliesMy 2013 is always off by a few degrees (too warm) on the outside temperature display. This is not the sun or other outside influence. I wouldn't mind if it was just a couple degrees but it is always 5-10 degrees off. Can this be adjusted?
View 12 RepliesMy media player has crashed about 5 times, most of the time the scenarios are as follow:
-restarted during music playing through bluetooth
-restarted during navigation + music playing through bluetooth
-restarted during music playing through bluetooth
-restarted during navigation
And today, my media player failed at searching songs from USB drive, couldn't connect to my phone through bluetooth, then restarted after i re-pairing my phone and re-insert usb drive. Everything went normal after restarting.
Other than the media player, couple days ago, I slowly turned my car all the way right, trying to pull my car into my garage at about 3-5 mph with brake applied, i hear this loud high pitch noise, went back and forth couple times with the same motion, sound still appeared..
