Prius (2010-12) :: 2011 - Leak In Sunroof
Aug 15, 2012
Last night we had torrential rains in Baltimore. This morning there were drops of water on the CD's on my passenger side seat, and the seat itself was pretty damp. Also water on the floor near the passengers' side door.
I checked the windows and the sunroof and all were completely closed. I had opened the internal slider on the sunroof yesterday to get some light. Usually I keep the slider closed. Maybe it was leaking even before yesterday, but I didn't notice it because the slider was catching the water.
Very disappointing. My 2011 Prius is less than a year old. I got the sunroof because of the solar cooling, which I like. I didn't think I'd have a problem with a well built car like the Prius, which I am otherwise very pleased with.
I'll wait until the next heavy rain, see if I can pinpoint the exact source of the leak, and then have it repaired while still under warranty.

2011 2.4L Limited leaking at the sunroof area? On a rainy day after my 60,000 mile service I noticed my driver side floor mat was wet. Took it out, vacuumed the water out and asked the dealer to check it at one of my other recall visits. They could not find the source so I took the car to a body shop who confirmed the source of the leak as being in the sunroof area, but are not able to find a solution.

I had my 2011 on the lift tonight for a quick oil change and tire rotation. The current mileage is 115k. During the inspection, I discovered that I had a small timing cover oil leak.

I have a 2010 fx4 150. I have a water leak threw my sunroof?

I have a leak underneath the rear right passenger door. I see some type of pan underneath there but don't know what it is. How to identify what this could be? This is 2011 Hatchback.

Sort of sounds like the body is flexing when I initially back out of my driveway. Slight drop-off from the driveway to the road, and a kind of loud creak/cracking/popping noise seems to emanate from the right side of the car. No noise I can notice while driving and once the car does it, it takes a while before it will do it again, like after driving on level ground for a bit. Frame issues maybe?

Today I noticed that my sunroof wind deflector is shattered. It is the front glass panel that angles up when you open the sunroof.

Check your cars to see if you have any failure happening. Parked outside year round. Don't know cause but dealer has ordered parts. Supposedly mine is only the second vehicle to have a similar problem. With sunroof partly open, check for rippling at the bottom of the trims and for cracks forming in the corners. My first notification of the problem was a corner of the trim popping off during a car wash. Seems the trim wants to expand off the glass. The good news is of course that it is only cosmetic and there's no leaking or anything plus it is under warranty.

I noticed a drop on my mpg while driving with an open sunroof.

Model Year 2010 Prius, rubber along the front edge of the sunroof glass looks dry/cracking, but only on the left side of the car. Don't think it has anything to do with the location it is parked in, as that and the orientation changes daily.

Gen3 2010, 15 months on the road, 62 000 km. While washing the car today I noticed that the rubber edge bonded to the sunroof glass is buckling/rippling/tearing. Cosmetic only, as far as I can tell - damage/wear doesn't permeate far enough down to cause a problem, I don't think.

Yep that's right a leak around the compass area. It first happened a month ago while driving in the rain. A few drops came out of the area between the headliner and the compass on the passenger side. The other day a couple of drops came out of the other side (driver). I took it to the dealer the next day and they couldn't find any water. Even after removing the whole top console and running it through the car wash. They couldn't even see where any water may have been.
Happens at speeds over 45mph. Raining outside for at least 2 hours. Sunroof had not been used for at long time due to Winter only a few drops have come out so far at one time. Has only happened twice in the 4 months we have owned the car.

My 2010 'reg started getting water soaking into the headliner after several hours of heavy rain today. I did a little searching and found the following TSB: [URL] .... . I'm not sure if it would apply to mine since it states its for 2004-2006.

I have a 2009 GS 350 AWD and this is my first issue I have had with my sunroof. It was raining this morning and we noticed that both rear corners of the sunroof have a steady drip leak. I opened and closed the glass as I figured it was a positioning issue but the leaks remain. I know there are drains but my guess is that the drains will not work fast enough for the water to drain (there is no other leaking and it is not leaking into the headliner yet).

I just bought a 2000 Mercury Villager with a "leaking sunroof" but the leaks are above the front door openings & between the sunroof & windshield near the interior lights.
Friend who has another car with a sunroof says it may be the windshield?
Ford Dealer thinks it might be sunroof drains are clogged?

It seems my sunroof will open all the way and close but it will NOT raise up in the back those couple of inches it used. it just doesn't respond to the pressure on the switch....

I have a Canadian 2011 Sonata 2.0T with sunroof. I am thinking of installing a dashcam. The power for the dashcam is supposed to be USB 5V.
I was thinking of tapping into the power for the sunroof. This way I will get power while ignition is on. I do have a 12V-5V DC converter on order.
How to get to the wiring harness? And how to tap into it? Another option could be the dome light, but I am not sure whether that power is on all the time or not. I only need power while ignition is on.

Yesterday, while traveling 65 MPH in 32 degree (Fahrenheit) dry weather, my closed and locked sunroof exploded. It sounded as though as shotgun had been fired. Suddenly the sound of flying glass and gushing wind. I have a 2011 Sonata Limited with factory sunroof. Upon examination after pulling off the middle lane of the interstate, I saw that what was left of the glass was pointing upward, confirming that the explosion came outward, not inward as if something had hit it. There were no vehicles immediately in front of me or in back of me, and nothing in the roadway immediately prior to the explosion.
I have since read on the internet that this has happened to several 2011 Sonata owners and hundreds of Hyundai Veloster owners with sunroofs. After many cases on the Veloster, a recall was made on the 2012 model Veloster, but nothing yet on the Sonata. I have contacted Hyundai who advised me to take it to the dealer to see if the glass was defective. All of the other cases spoke of the same type of explosion where it sounds as though a shotgun has been fired in your car. Any other member here experience the same and what has the dealer done for you. My car has 80,000 miles. Going to the dealer Monday with a hole in the roof.

Water drips in on the passenger side from the headliner just above where the handle is bolted to the frame (next to the windshield) after a good rain.

2010 Prius IV, Purchased July '13 with 133k. Now 175k. Other than drivers rear hub & brake recall, never an issue...until now. It the past 3 weeks, it has "went through" 3.5 quarts of oil. NO SIGNS of a leak (no puddles on floor and the "padding" on the pan side of the access door is dry). Doesn't smoke at all. The oil dipstick isn't rusted out.

My 2006 Sonata GLS 3.3 started dripping water the other day from the ceiling handle. The drain hoses do not appear to be plugged, water runs freely out. I pulled off the headliner around the place of the leak, and I can kind of see a plastic attachment with the drain hose on the corner of the sunroof frame. The water is coming from somewhere from it, but not from the hose attachment.
My question is, Do I have to replace the sunroof frame? Is it difficult to do? Or can I get away epoxying around the leak if it's small enough? In any case, how hard is it to remove the headliner?
