My front right or left or both for that matter, (its hard to pinpoint the noise while driving) makes a clinking noise when I hit a good size bump. No noise at all on smaller ones?
View 2 RepliesToday we heard what sounded like a flag pole clinking while driving in a parking lot. Turns out the sound was coming from my Prius (2010 III). We then heard several sounds, going from the clinking to what sounded like something falling off and something possibly dragging for a few inches. When we stopped to check, we found a large amount of pebbles resting in the belly (body? undercover? the black plastic parts on the bottom?). Tapping the plastic would cause pebbles to fall out.
View 11 RepliesRecently got tboned on right side front of the car, damaging rt suspension...got the car back after a month in the bodyshop, after a week i noticed that everytime i hit a bump on the road i hear the springs squeaking loud, sounds like its loose , upon checking the spring i saw that the letters and number on the spring is upside down ( trd springs) could this b the reason why its making a noise cz its upside down?

If windows are closed the ride is smooth, but when I open i keep hearing this sounds, and its driving me crazy... Is that normal for Prius V because of the different tiers?
My Accord does not have any similar sounds driving on the same road every day... actually ride with Accord is way better... Is that normal, should I go back to dealer? Car is 3000 miles only...
I have a 2011 Prius 2, with 35K miles, and have noticed a clicking sound in the steering when hitting a small bump or hole in the road. If the car is parked, I can rock the steering wheel back and forth, and hear a clicking sound. I do not remember the noise being there until recently.
Also the radio reception seems to have gotten weaker. If I am on a trip out of town, it now seems that I am looking for stronger stations frequently, as static interferes. I had the car to the dealer for this a few months ago, and they said they could not duplicate the problem
This car is about ready to drop off the warranty, and would like to have Toyota pay for the repair if it is needed.
I picked up some Daytona 18X8" 41 offset wheels to replace the Proto's 17X7.5 47 offset on my TDI. Im new to the whole wheel/fitment thing, so I figured I would ask.
When driving my car with the wheels on, I get some rubbing when the back end is loaded or if I hit a good bump. What I am wondering is if there is anything you can do to eliminate this. The car currently has stock suspension. I have also provided pictures of the car with the wheels on it.
So, recently I've been noticing that my suspension or somewhere in the front that it squeaks every time i go over a medium - big size bump or pot hole. (avoiding big potholes of course). The suspension feels fine as in after the bump there is no continuous bouncing... Could my coils be going bad?

Last night I checked rear shocks.. and one of them seems to have some oil leakage I am not really sure, but it has... some wet lines above it.. so I guess that's oil...
Dealership tested the car around 15 days ago, but this weird noise wasn't present.. although they order new rear shock and springs...
I have a 2011 sonata with about 40K miles. Recently the steering wheel has been making a rattling noise whenever I go over a bump
I know I need to get new tires, and the mechanic also said I need an alignment (which I will do when I get new tires, soon hopefully)
But, why the steering wheel/column (I dunno it is something inside the cars) is making a rattling noise when I go over a bump. It maybe started 5K or 10K miles ago, but it is getting progressively worse (or I am driving over more pot holes).
I just bought a 2010 Prius II and was wondering what size wheels will fit on it. What is the minimum offset I can go with a 17x8 without having the tire scrape the fender when I turn the wheel all the way to make u-turns?
View 2 RepliesWhen I turn my car off there's quite a bit of noise coming from under the car. Basically the sound of the exhaust cooling off but I would say a little excessive. In fact one night I was dropping my son off and left the car running and went to get some stuff out and while it was idling you could hear it. Clink.. clink clink. Same sound when its turned off.
I backed the car up on some ramps yesterday after I had driven it a short distance to see if I can pint point where its coming from and It seems to be in two places. Both where the exhausts are bolted together at a flange. One where the Catalytic converter bolts to the pipe that leads back to the mufflers. And there the 2nd source where just after the Y pipe where it splits off into 2 mufflers.
Is this something that may subside after the car has gotten some miles on it? I'm still well under the first 1k miles.
How the Prius calculates mpg based on miles driven then I need to create a formula that allows us to determine mpg when you change tire size.
We know the GenIII speedo reads between 1-2mph too fast but the ECU will continue to read exactly 2mph too fast despite tire size changes as verified by Scangauge and Torque app. So what is your mpg based on? Readings from the odometer, speedometer or something else?
If you change tire size then your miles driven is going to be altered. It's either going to be more accurate or less accurate depending on how this information is derived. If the miles driven is altered then so will be your mpg reading.
My original Yokohama avid s33 is about ready to be changed. It now have over 42k on them. I think I can still stretch it before the winter starts. My OEM size are 195/65/15 and I'm thinking of getting the 205/65/15. According to Tire Dimensions Made Simple - Discount Tire my tire rotation will decrease by over 16 revs per mile. I know the side wall is going to be about a quarter an inch higher about an inch and a half bigger in circumference And the car is going to sit half an inch higher and a wider Width.
Looking for observation/s pertaining to performance, mpg, handling, traction, etc.
I hit a bump while i was braking and the car felt like it was released from brakes while i still had my foot pressed on the pedal. I tried again on the same bump and it did it again.
View 5 RepliesI don't have any rattles, however I do have a creaking anytime the car goes over a bump, pulling up onto a driveway. Sounds like it is coming from the wall of the passenger side rear seat. Of course it does it more when it's cold. At first I thought it was the tonneau cover, but doesn't seem to be.
View 8 RepliesPurchased 2011 Prius 2 with 108500 miles on 4/29/2015. Didn't fully check all climate control settings and fan speeds. Two days later, car had vibration and rumbling sound which was increasingly severe on three highest climate control fan speeds in all modes (e.g. AC, heat, auto, manual, etc.). Sounded like a quiet lawnmower on highest fan speed. Was quiet on three lowest fan speeds. Glove box and passenger side dash vibrated in sync with noise.
Cabin air filter had been replaced by a large Toyota Dealer as part of pre-sale prep. I suspected filter was not installed properly. Removed glove box and filter, which had been properly installed. Vibration/noise were same when fan was operated without filter or glove box installed.
Felt around inside of fan housing. There was debris, including seven pieces of acorn shell (see image below). The concave sections of the shells were firmly wedged in the fins of the squirrel cage (no pun intended!) impeller. Cleaned out all nuts and debris, reassembled, fan operated quietly without vibration at all fan speeds.
The shells essentially unbalanced the impeller and induced vibration at high fan speeds, just like an unbalanced wheel would induce shimmy or vibration at freeway speeds. What is baffling is how the debris and acorn shells this large got past the filter. Filter fit on the right side is pretty good since a plastic flange goes between the pleats. The left side appears to have a looser fit with some gaps.
I just bought a 2011 Camry 4cly.
I am getting 31mpg around town, and just got 35mpg on a trip to PA.
Is that what I should expect for MPG ?
I've been noticing that when I brake more responsively, I feel a bump/notch right before a complete stop. It feels like something that has to do with the transmission.
View 6 RepliesGen III 2010, 6800 miles. Silver. Fuzzy dice. Pads are still rattling in the calipers when I hit bump when foot is not on brake. It sounds like hell! ...like major suspension components are loose, although I know they are not. Two Toyota dealers have told me this is normal, and no danger. ...no dealer fix.
View 7 RepliesMy 2011 Prius plus made a growling noise from the front right engine compartment area the other day. Yesterday as I drove it to work...it stopped growling and the A/C stopped blowing cool air. The volume of air from the vents is the same, just no A/C.
View 2 RepliesI'm having issue with my Camry making noise recently. It usually happens at lower speeds ~50km/hr, city driving. When going over bumps, rail road tracks, bridges, etc. it makes a metallic clinking sound that kinda lasts when the car is bumping up and down, if there are multiple bumps, it seem to be worse.
Going at highway speed and on smooth roads, doesn't seem to be much problem, or it occurs much less frequently.
