"Yellow exclamation point in brackets is on. Squiggly line below mark. What does this mean?" I did some research and everyone says tire pressure, yet all my tires are the right pressure... SO could it mean something else? I would look at the owners manual, but unfortunately don't have it...
View 12 RepliesI have a 2007 Toyota prius base model, it has 49,845 miles. Today i got in, pressed the bake, pressed the on button, and the Red Triangle appeared with yellow exclamation point in a circle, and on the lcd monitor it shows that there is a problem and a little icon of a car with an exclamation point on it.
The car drives and runs normal, fuel mileage seems to be the same, everything looks normal except the lights. One thing I tried to do: I took off the battery clamp and i put it back on, the warning lights were gone, but as soon as the engine kicked in the same warning lights came on.
Today i had my front discs and pads changed on my 07 prius and after putting it all back correctly I went to drive the car and my abs , vsc and both exclamation marks where lit up , I've read that this is common and a quick reset on a diagnostic machine should shift them ? Is this correct ?

Today , while driving , Red exclamation mark , yellow exclamation mark appeared on dashboard , and red car with sign on the main LCD screen.
I've read some similar posts but I havent found one with the same problem.
View 1 RepliesYesterday, started it up, began backing down the driveway, controlling speed with a little pressure on the brake. There was momentary weirdness, like the brakes had sort-of let go, then gripped again. And then got the warning "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" and a yellow triangle (inverted?) with exclamation mark.
I tried maybe 3 restarts, but the warning persisted. Phoned the dealership, booked-up Saturday, but they said they'd (commendably) squeeze it in. So we brought it in, when they eventually got to it they read the codes, cleared them, test drive, said it appeared the computer(s) "lost contact" momentarily, and it seemed ok.
I got in and started driving home, down the back lane first. Car started making a VERY strange buzzing sound, coming from under the hood. By the end of the lane I decided I better circle back to the dealership, pulled in at the curb in front, left it running and raised the hood, the hood support rod was loose, laying over the engine, doing a dance.
My boss has an 08 Tiguan and he got an error light on his dash coming to work today. It's yellow with an exclamation mark in the centre. On both side's there's a solid line and on the bottom it's got a "squiggly" line.
What it might be or if this is something known about them? He states there's no performance loss or anything acting up at all. Short of bringing it to a dealer which will be closed by the time we're both off work I thought I would start here.
A while ago I lost my second FOB for my 04 Toyota Prius. I ordered a new one online and it arrived.
Before starting the process I got inside and tried turning the car on with the original key but all that happened was the Key with an exclamation point came on the dashboard and beeped for about 5 seconds.
The manual said that this means, "the smart key was not in the effective range."
I inserted the original key into the key slot but the same thing happened. This also happened when I put the key next to the power button and pressed on. I double checked to make sure the SKS button below the steering wheel was not pushed in. I tried all of this again with the new FOB away from the vehicle and a couple days later.
Same result.
My Prius has about 145K miles on it and use it on a daily 130 mi round trip commute. Recently, a I got a Red Triangle w/ Exclamation Point and the displayed showed "Problem". I took the car to the dealership and they stated the problem was caused from a low oil level. The dealership changed the oil and I was good to go. 3k miles later, I got the same error and noticed my oil level was low once again. It seems that my Prius is burning oil at rate of 1 quart per 2500 miles driven. What can be causing this? Are there any remedies I can try before changing out the piston rings?
View 19 RepliesI am getting the red triangle and the little car with exclimation point on the MFD. Interestingly all of the amber lights are on and the brake light is on BUT the parking brake is not set.
Here is what happened --my hybrid battery died a few weeks ago so I ordered a replacement through Summit Racing (Dorman Battery). The car started and drove but I had to rest codes to keep it alive (just to get it home). Last moved it 3 weeks ago and removed the old battery.
So long story short -- while I was waiting for the new battery I repaired some other issues -- BTW I am not new to this, I have the tools and have done these repairs on conventional cars many times.
1. Leaking axle seals -- replaced L and R seals
2. replaced L and R half axles (drivers side was rough so replaced both)
3. Found drivers side wheel bearing to be rough so replaced L and R hubs
4. Replaced L and R struts and strut mounts.
5. Drained and refilled trans axle with Toyota W (TF) 4 qts
6. Installed new 12v battery (currently producing 13.4v)
7. Replaced rear struts.
8. Replaced L and R front rotors and shoes -- they were off anyway so why not. No loss of fluid!
9. Removed and cleaned most interior parts -- door panels, seats etc...
Installed new HV battery and fired her up to the usual wheezing, whining and clicking sounds. But NO engine -- just the triangle -- problem statement and and the other above issues.
Checked the following -- inverter pump is circulating nicely, though maybe battery electronics -- so I placed the old battery back in (it was started with the old one 3 weeks ago) -- nope same issue so not those electronics. Traced all wires, plugs and connectors related to hybrid system -- all seem to be in place.
I bought my Prius 9 weeks ago with 201k miles. It now has 214k on the odometer... that's right, 13,000 miles in just over 2 months. I love it. It's been problem free so far until last week when someone pulled out in front of me. I had to brake hard and when I did i got the red triangle exclamation point. No words, just the symbol.
View 7 RepliesI am driving smoothly on the highway, doing about 60km/hr, with my A/C working on a full. Suddenly, the check engine and emergency brake light comes up on the HUD along with a beeping sounding. A pull over, and smell a bad odor - like burning rubber - coming out of the hood. I checked and the car was immensely heated and there was smoke rising from a small rubber tube right next to the fuse box under the hood. I turned off the car.
Whenever I would turn the car back on, the smoke would start coming back. I checked several times. I couldn't find out where the smoke was coming from.
When the car cooled down a bit, I checked the radiator. The coolant level was a bit low so I filled up with the water. I also noticed that the radiator fans were not working, even when I turn the A/C on. So I called a towing company and got my car back to my garage.
Now the car heats up after running for a bit and the big exclamation mark sign comes on. The check engine light also comes on. But when the car cools down, the lights go away. I am thinking that the problem has something to do with overheating and the radiator fans not working.
The triangle comes on momentary for the past week. It first occurred when I turned right at 20 mph. The next time was during a sweeping left turn. Off and on with turns left and right. the last few times it was longer in different situations and I could read the LCD display where is said "PROBLEM".
The local dealer said check brake fluid and open and close all doors. Since it is more frequent I called my mechanic and he thinks it could be door sensors that have built up junk. The dealership does not think it is a safety issue and without any lights on their analyzer could not pull any codes.
After coming back from a two week vacation, I tried to start my 2002 sedan toyota prius; and it would not start. The master warning light came on, and then on the screen, the third icon (the farthest right) was blinking in red, it was an outline of a car with an exclamation mark in the middle of it. It does the same thing each time I try to jump it. However, at the same time, after jumping it, the battery seems to be fine, meaning that the display and radio start up fine, but soon after cranking the key, the engine seems to shut off. I bought the car used, so I don't have an owners manual or anything of that sort.
View 1 RepliesI've been using my prius 2008 very smoothly till today. It was 100F+ in Austin and very hot. The car, suddenly lit up all the warning lights: Engine, Red Exclamation, Hybrid, and brake lights. The brakes kept beeping on both sides. I also heard an engine noise that is quite uncommon for prius. I stopped the car in a parking lot.
I came back in an hour and tried to start the car. I only saw 2 lights now: Red Exclamation, and Engine check. It might some "click" noise when I started, and after that it was fine. I drove for a while and everything was fine but the 2 warning lights were still on. I tried starting and stopping few times. I did experience the clicks (1-2) and the engine noise. The engine noise lasted 15-30 seconds and then it was back to normal.
I followed the youtube video to look up the diagnostics (Display pressed + lights on/off 3 times) to check the 12V battery. It read 13.8 V. I recently had an oil change at Toyota dealership less than 500 miles back. So I am baffled at this point. I have about ~60K miles and it's a 2008 model. So if it's a hybrid battery issue, I am covered.
I have the red triangle with the exclamation point in it. What it can be? I have a 2006 Prius. It still seems to drive ok. I have parked it though and have an apt Monday morning at Toyota. (They didn't have a Prius tech in today) When I first noticed the light it would come on and go away. Now it's staying on.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2008 Prius, with SKS and Nav, and 103,000 miles on the odometer. I bought it from the original owner in 2010. So far it has been trouble free, with just oil changes and scheduled maintenance.
When I turn power on, I get a red triangle with exclamation point. Also a row of yellow indicator lights. Also along the top of the LCD display there is a red car shape with an exclamation point on it.
I followed the procedure for checking the voltage of the 12v battery using the diagnostic screens, using the procedure at weird-stuff-happening-mpgs-dropping-test-the-battery.73400/and I got 11.8 volts.
Since it seemed likely that my problem is related to the (original OEM) 12v battery, which is now 6 years old, I took my handy jump-start battery thing (see photo below) and attached its red alligator clip to the positive post under the hood, and the black clip to the frame. I hoped that would allow me to start the car, but it did not start. The error lights on the dash were unchanged.
Question 1. Does the fact that the symptoms remain the same after I have connected my jump-start battery mean that the problem I'm having is NOT my 12v battery?
I then hooked up my cheap OBDII code scanner (see photo below) and checked for codes. It found none.
Question 2. Does the OBDII scanner not finding any codes have any importance? When people write about having their car towed to the dealer and having error codes read there, does that refer to OBDII codes, or are they referring to some other type of codes that can only be read by a dealer?
While I was in the diagnostic screens, I found three screens of error codes. The screens are called DSP-AMP, EMV, and NAVI. See 3 photos below.
Question 3. Do these error codes have significance?
I have successfully gotten Techstream running properly and just bought a new brake position sensor and will be putting it in which I am hoping will fix the problem with all the lights.
View 19 RepliesThis morning I started my 2008 Prius (approx. 31k miles) and found the big red triangle with an exclamation mark and check engine light turned on.
I drove my car <1 mile to a smog check station where they ran a diagnostic on it and came back with the P0A9C code.
A quick internet search turns up that this is "HYBRID BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR "A" RANGE/PERFORMANCE."
I have a 2009 Prius Touring with about 55,000 miles on it. Had it regularly serviced last Thursday at the Toyota dealer/service center, and they said it needed to have the coolant flow control valve replaced due to sticking - so I agreed and they did it under warranty.
On Friday afternoon, I was driving out to the desert and about 50 miles into my trip, the red triangle with exclamation point symbol appeared on my dash, and the word "Problem" beeped on my screen. Then it went off, and then back on a few minutes later. Then it happened again and the high coolant temperature warning light came on the screen...and then went away. I turned off the A/C and opened the hood to check for steam or heat, but there was nothing. Since I was far from my destination, I called the closest Toyota service center and promptly drove there, but the light was off when I arrived. They said they checked everything out and ran the codes, but nothing came up.
When driving home on Sunday, the car did the same thing - Problem Triangle and High Coolant Temperature warning light on and off for varying amounts of time and with no correlation to how fast I was driving or how hard the engine was working. I left the A/C off the entire time.
Today, the car did the same thing after driving for about 10 miles. I brought it back to my regular service center, they ran codes and checked everything out...but they cannot find anything. They said they can't determine anything with the light off, but it doesn't stay on consistently so it's nearly impossible to bring it in with the light on.
I can't seem to find my manual, and I'm not sure if I should drive my car home after a warning light came on during my drive to work. It was a yellow exclamation point within a bracket. What this means?
