View 5 RepliesThe issue is, when driving at low speeds, especially after coming to a stop, I hear this intermittent knock that comes from the rear of the vehicle. I am not sure if it is coming from the outside or inside, but it really sounds like it is coming from the chassis.
View 13 RepliesThis morning when I heard some knocking from the ICE and found NO oil on the dipstick. You wouldn't BELIEVE the drive the car did the day before when I lent it to my sister-in-law). Anyway, I thought the red triangle would illuminate with low oil. I can't seem to get the light to illuminate. Even when I first start the car and "all" indicators light up during the test. I'd say this is one important light. We've had the car less than a month and I could swear that when we first got it I saw the triangle at start up.
View 5 RepliesI was driving the other day, and all of a sudden it started with this horrible knocking sound. I have never heard the sound before. I remember back in the day, with a 67 buick rivera, that if the oil got low, the engine would knock, and this kind of sounded the same, but more high pitched and clicky. I checked the oil first thing and there is plenty in there - in fact, I had just checked and put oil in it about two weeks before.
I have not always kept up with the oil changes, and sometimes the oil level was pretty low. My sons tell me that the sound seems to be coming from the top of the engine, and it's probably toast, a rod knock. I parked it, and figured i will get it looked at in a few months, when I'm better able to pay for diagnostics.
My daughter received a warning for her driver side headlamp being out. When we checked it, we found it working but with a pulsing. Later as we worked on the car for routine stuff the headlight went out completely.
View 4 RepliesCar is in for knocking sound made when you are stopped and you turn the wheel quick from left to right. Also does the same thing when you hit a bump. Dealer is saying it was always that way I say bs. 2008 prius.
View 1 RepliesI just painted my caliper and now I hear some popping sound when I brake or when I completely stopped. if I bring it to the dealer will they denied the warranty because I painted the caliper?
View 2 RepliesI just joined this forum some minutes ago, I own of a 2004 XC90 T6 AWD, delivered to me a couple to days ago, just barely getting to know the car, hear a knocking sound from the front passenger seat when i drive on rough roads, and this morning check engine warning sign remained on while driving out, had to park the car at home.
View 4 RepliesWeather got cold last night and froze everything. When I went to start my wife's car she had left the wipers in the on position the night before and I did not notice it. Once I turned the car on, the wipers went to start moving but were frozen. Once I realized it I quickly switched it to the off position, but it was too late. After defrosting everything and cleaning the windshield, the wipers will not work. I thought first it was a blown fuse so I switched it out with a new one, but still no luck. After my engine turned off I could hear the wiper motor running but no moving on the wipers. I have checked the nuts that hold the base of the wipers in place and they are tight. I have a 2007 Prius as well.

I changed the front brake pads and resurfaced the rotors. After putting everything back together, I took the car to test drive it. The stopping power is fine and there is no squeaking or robbing sounds. However, when I apply the brakes at lower speeds moving forward there is knocking sounds the comes with the tire rotations. What is the reason for this sound?
This is my second time changing the pads and rotors, with the first with no issues. I put grease between the shams and the pads, and I sprayed the rotors with brake cleaner before the installation.
My brake lights dont come on until they are completely depressed. I think it may be the switch that connects to the pedal, but how do i adjust it in such a way that the light will come on sooner so everyone will quit telling me my brake lights are out?
View 2 RepliesMy 98 lumina seems to make a knocking/bouncing sound in the right rear wheel well when I brake. It never happens when I'm braking driving in the city (25 mph or so) but it happens when I'm closer to 40mph and up.
I thought it might've been a drum brake issue but I just had the brakes serviced about two or three weeks ago. It still does it. This isn't a new issue. It's something that's been going on for years.
I have a 2002 prius with 147612 miles on it and a problem with my braking system. When I turn on the car the ABS and Brake light turn on and there is a high pitch sound that beeps continuously. Sometimes after a while the warning lights and beeping stop only to return a little while later. I can drive the car when the warning lights are on but i have to press harder on the brakes than normal to get the car to stop and the braking system feels looser. However, when the warning lights turn off I can brake as i normally do and the system feels normal. This problem goes on intermittently as I'm driving.
I took the car to the dealership today and paid $143 for a diagnostics and was told that DTC C1251 was retrieved from the diagnostic computer. The technician told me that the ABS Motor is bad and because of that the car thinks I'm skidding so the ABS shuts off. He recommended that I get the ABS Motor ASSY ( Part #47071-47010) replaced.
Also, I read a post to resolve it by flushing the brake fluid. I checked the brake fluid level in the cylinder and it is at the max level and there aren't any leaks. Would that be an option?
Recently I drove in to a huge puddle of water, and since then my car has not been the same. Two sets of problems started happening almost immediately.
Various functions on the cluster are not working, such as the speedometer (reads zero no matter what speed I go), odometer (remains at 28,787) and the gas meter which fluctuates constantly.
Also, the brake system is just out of whack completely. It simply isn't working well at all. Attached are two pictures of the dashboard.
I went to a local mechanic, and he suggested having the cluster and brake sensors replaced with brand new ones.
I have this light tapping sound that I don't believe is native to the otherwise healthy Prius II I'm currently driving. Mine is a 2007 Prius II with about 106,000 miles. The sound occurs persistently when the vehicle is ON but the engine is not running and the ventilation system is off. If I press down on the brake pedal I hear a light tapping similar to tappets in older cars.
But since the engine is not running at this point I don't think the problem is there. If I let up almost all the way on the brake the noise goes away. I bought this car with 103,000 so I know there may be things that I need to tend to. I'm not experiencing any braking problems. I'd rather have some idea of what's making this sound before I check with a mechanic and incur a few hundred dollars of expense.
What is the common cause of brake light failure? I drive a 2005 F150 Lariat 4X4. When i started the lights flickered until they completely stopped working. To me it seems like a short, is there a specific, common place where a wire is not properly mounted or rubs on something?
View 1 RepliesI have another small issue with my 2004 Prius. I just noticed yesterday that the second I very lightly depress the brake pedal, a little clicking sound is made down below. It sounds like it might be coming from the brake pedal itself or somewhere underneath the hood. It's only when I depress the pedal slightly and it makes pretty much the same sound when I release the pedal. I just had a 5000 mile service done to the car and there were no issues then.
View 14 RepliesMy 2006 Prius with 206k miles is making a loud buzzing/grumbling noise when I press down the brake and periodically when parked. It's coming from the general area of the brake pedal, under the steering wheel. See video for a recording of the sound:
View 2 RepliesI can press on the brake pedal when car is off or on and there is a kind of quirky sound made. I can hear a pump sound and then a squeaking or quirky sound. It happens every time I press the pedal when it is stopped, either on or off.
View 2 RepliesWe recently purchased a used 2006 Prius. The vehicle has approximately 74K on it now. Well the other day my wife went to leave work and pressed the power button while pressing the brake pedal, and the Master Warning Light and brake warning light both came on. The car would not allow her to shift the car so she tried to turn it off and it wouldn't do that either. After about 5 minutes she finally got the car to turn off, and when she restarted the sequence everything went back to normal and she drove home fine.
We called 2 dealers and they both seem to be confused by the symptoms, but one thought that maybe the battery was old on the transmitter. So thinking that might make sense I replaced the battery with a new one.
My 2007 Prius (151,000 miles) just started making what sounds like a scraping sound when in motion. This does not happen every time I drive it. The dealership said I need to replace the brake fluid actuator pump.
He couldn't really tell me what would happen if I don't have it fixed. He said perhaps the power brakes would go out, or maybe the anti-lock brake system. Either way, I don't want to mess with possible brake failure. But the cost of this repair is so high, and my car already has 151,000 miles. I'd love to drive it to 300,000 miles if I can, but am I being realistic? I'm wondering if it's worth investing this much money in a car with so many miles.
