I was driving down the road and the VSC warning light came on with the check engine light... What could be wrong should I have it tow to the dealer!

View 4 RepliesIn my one-owner purchased-new 2005 Prius w/ 74K miles and w/ no maintenance/accident history other than doing all scheduled maintenances at Toyota Dealers along w/ recalls applicable at each time (other than we had Toyota replace the 12V battery last year just because I knew it would die at some point anyway and I don't like pushing my luck; I'm not 100% certain if there's been a recall on any water pump for this car and if so, don't believe the dealer has mentioned it), I have the following indicators which appeared all at once while I was driving along at around 45 MPH in no unusual circumstances (80F, dry afternoon, about 30 minutes into a trip of mixed speeds, no loads in the vehicle, no effect on the car while driving):
From Left to Right on the display:
1) Red Triangle - Master Warning Light
2) Orange (Symbol)CHECK - Malfunction Indicator Lamp
3) Orange (!) - Brake Warning Light (but it didn't highlight the word 'Brake' in red)
4) Orange VSC - Vehicle Stability Control Warning Light
On the Screen:
Orange Car w/ the ! symbol - Hybrid System Warning Light
We immediately aimed for the house (about 5 miles away); the car drove perfectly fine, with the engine stopping and starting at lights as needed, with speeds going from the 55MPH we were traveling at the time of the alarms down to 0 and back up thru 35/45 MPH and such per normal off-interstate driving. The battery currently shows all the blue bars, and the engine and hybrid systems showed charge/discharge as usual as we drove. There was no discernible change in the driving reaction of the car to brake, steering, accelerator, etc.
We recently purchased a used 2006 Prius. The vehicle has approximately 74K on it now. Well the other day my wife went to leave work and pressed the power button while pressing the brake pedal, and the Master Warning Light and brake warning light both came on. The car would not allow her to shift the car so she tried to turn it off and it wouldn't do that either. After about 5 minutes she finally got the car to turn off, and when she restarted the sequence everything went back to normal and she drove home fine.
We called 2 dealers and they both seem to be confused by the symptoms, but one thought that maybe the battery was old on the transmitter. So thinking that might make sense I replaced the battery with a new one.
My wife and I own a 2006 Toyota Prius that we bought used 2 years ago. a couple of days ago, the master warning light (red triangle exclamation point) and check engine light came on. I took it into the dealer and of course, our hybrid battery was dead - battery and a new ECU required.
Our car is at 99,000 and 32 days out of warranty. Went down the road to atlanta hybrid repair. they were incredibly nice, and said that my computer was fine, but the battery would need to be replaced.
The red triangle warning light on our 2004 came on and went away again It has 100k miles If I take it to the dealer can they pull some codes and figure out why it turned on We have to drive the car to 600 miles for the upcoming weekend and I don't want to be stranded on the side of the road The car has 103,000 miles We just replaced the 12v battery so I know that is OK
I also saw the following things to check. Is there anything else we should check?
1 - Are any warning lights on besides the red triangle? For example, the red BRAKE light, the amber ABS and VSC lights, or the amber circular icon?
2 - Did you check the brake fluid level? If low, buy a new container of DOT3 brake fluid and replenish as needed This fluid will dissolve paint, so do not spill it
3 - While you are at it, check the radiator and inverter coolant levels by looking at the translucent reservoirs behind the radiator and next to the inverter If low, fill with Toyota Super Long Life Coolant
It was driving me crazy that the red triangle warning light (master warning light) flashed for only a split second, once per day, two days in a row.
I drive 100 miles per day. My 2004 Prius has 136K miles.
It turned out to be low motor oil level, 1.75 quarts low.
My car is burning about one quart every 5K miles which probably is within the normal range for a 136K car.
I was driving earlier today and it flashed twice (about a second and a half each), and then didn't see it again for a few hours. I was going about 40 MPH at the time.
I was driving somewhere else today and when I got to the 70MPH mark (really, between 60-70), it objectively increased in frequency. I searched google and these forums, and the closest thread I can find that shares my ailments was this one:
After 10 minutes running errands in stop and go traffic, I noticed the VSC warning light. It was a hot and humid day (mid-80's). Made it home and was unable to open my garage door with the mirror that is equipped with an automated door opener. I turned the car off so I could open the garage, and when I tried to start my car again using my smart key, it would not start. I put the key in the key slot and was able to start the car, but the smart key, radio, windows and automatic door lock would not work.
Mileage is just under 25K.
So the other day my girlfriend got in her car and it had the master warning light on. we took it to the dealer and now they are saying it is something with the transmission and it would be cheaper to just install a new one. Another thing is how could it be the transmission if i drove it over to the dealer and head no problem with the gears changing, but he also said something about a voltage leak.
View 2 RepliesI nearly killed my 12v battery this week when I left my dome light on in the Airport parking lot. When I got back to the car I was able to pop the hatchback, but there wasn't enough juice to start her up. I was able to get a booster pack jump and it looked like everything was fine (didn't even lose the radio presets on the aftermarket deck). I had a long ride home to charge the 12v battery up. I changed out to the Optima yellow-top a couple years ago, so I'm not too worried about the battery being crippled. I've gone into the onboard signal menu and the battery voltage is well within spec idle and under load after a few hours of driving recharge.
Low and behold, the next day the VSC warning light came on and won't go off. I am NOT getting the brake (!), red triangle, or ABS warning light as others have received with 12v battery issues. I put on the OBC scanner and pulled no issues. I jumpered pin 13 TC and 4 Gnd on the interface to get the flash codes and sure enough, I'm getting a 34 code on the VSC system. I have been unable to clear the code via tapping the brakes.
What a VSC 34 is and how to clear it?
On my gf's 09 Prius the warning button doesn't light up during the night with the headlights on. You can't see it. Is this normal?
View 2 RepliesRecently I had a warning light accompanied by the ICE shutting down. P0121. As the repair, the throttle body was cleaned.
A week or two later, while in Park with the parking brake engaged, I got another warning light along with some text on the display, something about parking brake. I didn't completely absorb the message before powering off, waiting, then powering on. No more warning light.
I just purchased a 2006 Prius with 89k miles and it has a problem with the drive train and randomly losing all power on the freeway causing me to make emergency shoulder stops to reset the car.
The symptoms are as follows:
-red triangle on, orange circle with ! on, check engine light on, hybrid monitor green car symbol is red with ! in it
-traction battery fan is always on when car is powered
-the car has never driven under electric power
-shifting problems, sluggish acceleration and all power loss on freeway
-hybrid monitor system lies and shows the battery full one second and empty the next.
This morning I went out to warm my car up for a few minutes because it has been so cold and when I started it the red triangle warning light stayed on and the consumption screen said "problem" across the top with a little icon in the upper left hand corner that looked similar to a high beam headlight indicator. I turned the car off and started it again wondering if it would clear which it did not. I left it running and went inside to get my child and by the time I came out it had cleared itself.
In typing this I recall that I thought it stayed on a little longer than normal the other day and just ignored it thinking it was still in lamp test mode on initial start up.
I charged the almost dead 12v with a slow charger and it is fine now. but immediately after charging the brake system light came on. I believe brakes are just fine, and want to reset the light and see if it will ever give again.
View 3 RepliesWhy I get this squeal and soft brakes with the ABS and (!) warning lights lit?
View 1 RepliesThis sensor came on, I filled the tires up to 35 and it went away. A few weeks later, I decided to air the fronts to 40 and the backs to 38 PSI. The light came back on.
View 5 RepliesMy airbag warning light came on yesterday in my new/used 2005 Prius Gen 2, and after a moment of thinking there was a a serious malfunction, I have deduced that it's because I had just put in an infant car seat behind the passenger seat. Evidently any pressure exerted against the passenger seat back causes the airbag warning light to illuminate.
View 19 RepliesParked the car, when wife got back in, got the big exclamation point, SRS warning light, brake off light, airbag off light and most weird the single gas bar flashing when, in fact, I had about 3/4 of a tank. The first part of the problem was that when my keys are in the same pocket as my cell phone, there is interference, so I took the keys out, but the same alarms came on. After playing around with it for a while, including locking and unlocking doors with the remote, it finally started, everything normal, including showing gas just fine. I am original owner, so no accidents. I had just put a heavy object in the trunk, maybe it twisted some wiring? I took it out when I got home.
View 3 RepliesMy 12v battery died, I tried recharging it etc, but it was dead so I took it to my local Toyota dealer and had the battery replaced.
Because I had the battery off, there was a VSC warning light, which I thought that the Toyota dealer could reset. They re-calibrated all the warning apart from one, they say that the Yaw sensor will not clear it's warning and needs to be replaced.
if I can reset this warning myself, or do I really need to replace this sensor?
My 2005 Prius (86 K mi.) has a warning light on - brakes. Put on the scanner and came up with code P1116 coolant temp. sensor circuit stack for coolant heat storage system. Also C1378 - capacitor communication circuit malfunction. I'm just a shade tree mechanic but can usually fix stuff if I know where to start.
