Can I get a roll call of all of the normal noises I should expect from my Prius? I know there are some strange ones, but I think I've got too many .
particularly on my brakes and some sort of squeeky crank sound under my hood.
Have squeaky brakes upon first startup, when I back out of my driveway and shift to "D", sometimes the brakes squeal or whine. Is that normal for a 2011 Prius?

I took my truck into Brake Check because my brakes were squeaking and the rotor needed to be worked on, when I slowed down the truck would slow down smoothly....it felt like I was pressing hard then releasing etc. I knew it needed new pads etc.
Well, they replaced the Pads, and did Rotor Reface on all 4. They recommended getting the Calipers Maintenance (front 2 wheels). They wanted $800 for new rotors too (in addition). I told them no.
Fast forward around 6 months. Truck was braking great, no squeaks etc for about 4 months. Then I begin noticing huge amounts of brake dust on my wheels. Might be normal not sure.
2 months later, but truck now squeaks again while braking. And when I'm going slow, I like in a parking garage I can hear this clicking noise while I'm on the brake. CLICK.....CLICK.....CLICK....CLICK.
If you coudn't tell, I don't know much about my truck. I'm trying to learn.
Well, whenever I slow down from ~50mph, my truck vibrates like nothing I've ever seen before. My windshield wipers are bouncing around it's so bad.
I took it to a Ford Dealership to get the works done, where they rotate the tires and change the oil etc, and inspect the brakes. The guy said the rotors need to be machined.
That's not normal right? I don't drive a lot. I don't ride the brakes, I haven't had to brake hard. 6 months from the work I've had done from Brake Check, and the rotors are bad again?
I'm just going to pay Ford to fix this issue and not go back to brake check because that means I'd have to drive 3hrs. I'm curious though, shouldn't their work on the rotor still be good.....not causing them to be worked on again?! I like my truck a lot, the brakes are just pissing me off. My last truck, a 2002 ford...I had till last winter till someone rear ended my truck totaling it, I never had to do any brake work on that thing.
I got suckered into buying the extended warranty for my truck, and it says it covers the calipers.
I'm taking it into a different ford dealership that is in my town next week, and was curious if any of you had some insight on my brake situation.
1996 Mazda Protégé, 130,000 miles, squeaky sound coming from under the hood. Happens any time, whether I am moving or not. Should I be worried? Been going on for about 2 months.

View 9 RepliesI'd like to write them and open a dialogue about my minor problems before I see the dealer for my 5,000 service. Specifically, I have already complained to the dealer twice about the car pulling to the right and the squeaky brakes. While I know these are minor issues now, I would rather have a VW approved plan of action in hand before the dealer tells me there is nothing they can do about my problems. I realize this may be a futile effort but I like to document things.

View 24 RepliesI bought a 2005 Prius base model with under 77K mi. A month after owning it, and about the time the weather got hot enough to need AC, I started hearing a squeaky moan (ish) noise coming from the ac unit when switching it on or off.
I took it in to the Nissan dealership and they listened and ID'd the noise as the "blender", and told me it was nothing to be concerned about (I do not believe that) and it's just a normal blender noise for an 11 year old car.
I think they didn't want to deal with it at all. (not that I'd want to spend the money, either, because so far the AC is working fine, but I can't shake the concept that it shouldn't be making that sort of noise at all (it wasn't there when I bought it) . I think it IS something that will lead to needing some sort of repair. Should I bring it somewhere else once my warranty is up?
What I am talking about? Should I be worried about this sound? (which seems to be getting ever so slightly louder each time).
I currently have an '07 GS 450h and the brakes are embarrassingly squeaky.

It seems that every time I hit the brakes and come to a complete stop my brakes scream with this annoying squeaky sound ... My car has a little over 800 miles haven't driven hard, or dogged the car just been taking it nice and smooth for a proper break in.

I have been pretty happy with my OE pads but I'm wondering if I should use this opportunity to change the pads for some aftermarket bits.

I drove around and pulled back to the service area and keep driving and stopping and the brakes squeaked every time. They supposedly replaced the brake pads, however, the brakes still squeak.

He said he has often seen the "squeaky brakes" problem in Mercedes and it is often difficult to pinpoint which wheel (or wheels) would be the cause of the squeaking (sound like metal on metal). View 2 RepliesMy 2005 Honda Accord (approx 48,000 miles) has had squeaky/grinding brakes for the last few months. The brakes make a horrible grinding noise for the first few times that I brake each time that I drive it, and then as the car warms up the noise seems to go away. It also shakes a little bit when it's making the grinding noise - not a ton, but enough that I think there must be something wrong. It's worse (during those first few brakings) if I brake hard, but even if I'm really gently applying the brake it makes the same unsettling noise. The squeaking noise doesn't go away ever, but I don't think it's as serious as the grinding noise (but I could be wrong - that's why I'm here!).
I took it to a brake specialty place in November or December and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Other than regular oil changes and tire rotations, the car hasn't had any repairs.
What would make brakes sqeak? Especially when car has been sitting awhile.

View 14 RepliesI have a 2011 Honda Civic EX-L sedan with 10,000miles on it. I've noticed that the brakes often make a squeaking noise when I am driving slowly and come to a stop at a stop sign. It seems to happen most often after a cold start (e.g. I notice it in the morning when I start my drive to work and otherwise when I have not been driving around in my car). I took it to the dealership today and they said everything was fine with the brakes; they are in great shape and starting to wear normally. They found nothing wrong and they did not hear the squeaking although I heard it this morning and last night.
