Non mechanical squeaking noise coming from rear passenger side cabin area. Only appears to happen under 75 percent or so acceleration and slightly heavy braking. Sounds like an electrical squeal intermittent under the above conditions.

After I put the car in park and inspected any noises from the outside, I realized that a squeaking noise was also coming from the rear brake drums of the car. It was perfectly find yesterday and this morning it started.
View 3 RepliesI have been noticing a squeaking sound lately, what it might be. I notice it most when parked in the garage and I am getting out of the car (obviously with the car in Park). It seems to happen when the car rolls slightly, forward and back against. I tried to take a video to capture the sound. The car was parked and shut off, and I was pushing the car forward and back to recreate the sound. The sound SEEMS to come from the front (maybe the right front), but it is not easy to tell.
View 9 RepliesYesterday morning, my 2010 had a very strange noise happen at startup. I'll preface this by saying that it was very early in the morning and I wasn't quite 100% awake, so the exact chain of events are a little foggy to me.
It was about 65 degrees when I went to start the vehicle in the morning. I noticed it was pretty humid out and the first humid morning of the year (I live in central PA). When I hit the power button, a very loud noise came from the engine area. It sounded like metal grinding and the motor having difficulty idling. I depressed the brake to attempt to put the vehicle in drive and the yellow "!" indicator light came on with a message on the on board display (i cant remember what it said). I shut the vehicle down and after a few seconds hit the button again..... same thing. This time, the idling and "grinding-like" noise went away and then the car seemed 100% normal. I noticed there was a little bit of blue smoke coming out of the exhaust while it was idling/grinding roughly.
Perhaps not the smartest thing to do, but I left for work and the vehicle has worked 100% fine since the mishap yesterday morning. In total, I have driven about 150 miles since the issue with no problems.
I read a sticky post concerning a service bulletin for engine knocking at start-up but what i heard seemed to be more than knocking and it was well above 40 degrees.
Brakes squeaking when first got Touareg? Mine only seems to do it when I am lightly braking.
View 18 RepliesI have a 1995 Mazda Truck, B2300 series that is a 4 wheel drive. Recently I had the front brakes replaced, new clay disc brakes. Not so long after that I started to hear a noise as I was braking as well as squeaking. I thought, of course it had something to do with the new brakes. The sound happened occasionally at first and now is every time I brake.
I can hear it as I'm coming to a stop, sounding like it's coming from the rear. It's a rubbing type noise, like a wa, wa, wa, wa that happens until I have stopped. After 2 mechanics I now have a $700 estimate to replace the u-joint, and they aren't even sure if that will fix it.
The front brakes are new. The rear drums have been replaced and machined to fit properly (they thought that was the issue). Is this common or something that I have to fix every such and such miles?
It's a 07 prius with 65k miles. I realized that it is making this squeaking noise while going over bumps "ONLY" when the brakes are applied.
I have 2 toyota dealerships checked. 1st dealer said no noise and 2nd dealer also said no noise... then, i requested to drive with the mechanic and he somehow heard the noise while I am in the car.

Quick back story, bought the car a year ago, seller told me it was in an accident and the radiator was replaced. He let me know that the discharge AC hose was missing and that the other hose was disconnected. I also noticed that the low pressure cap is missing. I recently ordered and installed the discharge hose with the intention of filling the system later.
I have always noticed a noise/vibration coming from the passenger side when braking at low speeds. I havent noticed at higher speeds but maybe there is more road noise. The best I can describe the noise is that is sounds like a compressor running. I have a hunch it's the AC compressor and might be related to the regenerative braking, but I am no expert.
Bought my Prius (2005, with 160K miles) about a month ago and since I've had it I am hearing a metal on metal grinding noise when braking at low speed. How loud the sound is depends on how hard I am on pushing on the brakes. One of my co-workers has the same model and said that his does not make that sound. Not sure if its just because it has after-market brake pads or something? This noise only occurs when braking at low speeds (below 10 MPH) so I assume its an issue with the front brakes.
Is this something I need to get looked at by the dealership? I had a local mechanic that worked on my old Honda beater take a look and he said that the rotors and brake pads looked new and wasn't sure why they'd make noise.
I have an 06 Prius that I have had for about a year or more now. When I bought it, it needed a transaxle. I replaced that and have been driving it since. I have this problem that seems to be getting worse. When I push the brakes the car will make a popping noise, and it seems to be getting more frequent. I do not get any noticeable noises when turning or just driving normally.
The noise is quite noticeable, when I am in a parking lot and hit the brakes next to someone, people will give me the look like "what's wrong with your car". I am not positive where this noise is coming from, but my best guess is that it is coming from the right side. The popping seems like something is bound up and then releasing. I can also replicate the noise some times when I initially accelerate. My best guess is that it is being caused from the engine/trans weight shifting, but I am not sure a motor mount can make the popping noise I am getting.
So my dealer diagnosed my 2007 Prius with a transaxle issue, but what bothers me is that it doesn't make the sound all the time. When I brake lightly, there is no sound and when I brake heavily there isn't either. It is only when I do a medium brake above 7 mph of course and around 20's mph range. I am hoping for something besides the transaxle...maybe a wheel bearing...anything.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2006 Prius (150K miles) with a noise coming from the drivers left wheel. It is a hollow metallic squeak that only occurs while the vehicle is moving. It sounds like the wheel is making brief contact with something metallic at the same point on every rotation. The pitch of the squeak increases with the speed of wheel rotation. It does so while rolling, with breaks and without. The noise gets louder when turning right, and softer when turning left, though it begins to get louder again when the wheel is turned hard all the way left.

View 1 RepliesMy car was making a weird grinding noise when braking above 7mph. I did the neutral brake thing and seems to go away sometimes. The dealership said it needed new rotors and brakes, so I went ahead and did that with them, then called me to let me know the sound did not go away. Now they are stating my grinding noise is coming from the "inverter generator" which is what they said was the transmission. I am just curious why this goes away sometimes and if it's related to my previous issues with the car.

It sounded basically like something was scratching against the plastic, but I'd only hear the noise during acceleration/braking, for maybe a half of a second. That was for about a week, but then it went away and I didn't think about it anymore.
Then, a little while ago, I was in an accident where a pedestrian ran into the road in front of me. He hit the driver's side, and there was some damage. Bumper, hood, front light replaced. Suddenly, I'm hearing the noise again, and it's not going away.
Really, what it sounds like to me is as if some piece of something is loose inside the door and moving back and forth whenever I accelerate or break.
Just purchased a used 2008 prius with 80,000 miles on it. Braking system makes slight grinding noises when getting below around 10mph. I know the brakes are different, so I'm not sure if this is normal or if it means my brake pads need replacing? Car didn't come with an owners manual .
View 6 RepliesI put on my H&R Springs. Today was my first full day with them on and everything seemed fine. The ride is awesome - no complaints. Except, on the way home tonight in traffic I could hear a knocking noise. It seems to only happen around 30-35 mph. It doesn't produce over bumps or at highway speeds even if I hit construction. Only happens around the speeds I said and even then it comes and goes. I took a video to see if I could get it on it. You can hear it better on the video from my phone compared to the one that is uploaded to youtube. Listen carefully and you'll hear a knocking noise.

My 03 Passat is going in for 40k service this week. I think they're going to tell me I need new brakes and rotors (felt some pretty heavy vibration during braking in the Tennessee hills). I was thinking of changing the front brakes myself. My mechanical abilities are modest, but I've done the brakes on my 94 Ford Ranger before.
1. Is this an easy task?
2. What parts will be needed?
Under heavy braking, both of my ISF's experience a repeated "thunking." Brakes are fine, rotors aren't warped, and you don't feel anything through the pedal. Rather, it's felt through the floorboard. I bought upgraded LCA bushings, thinking this would solve it, but it persists.
View 8 RepliesI've a little over 60k on my '12 Golf TDI and I think it's time to replace the brake rotors and pads (a lot of vibration and pulsing under moderate to heavy braking). I'm looking to replace front and rear rotors at the same time, but have a question about the rear rotor size:
Websites like Tirerack & Partsgeek give several options for the rear rotors - 256mm, 260mm and 272mm.
I've owned my IS F for a little over two weeks now, and I have noticed under several occasions under heavy breaking (close to 70-80% breaking capacity) that I have to fight the steering wheel to keep the car tracking straight. This is anywhere from speeds of 80-90 mph coming down to 40-50 mph. Could this be an issue related to the front control arm bushings? My F only has ~41,xxx miles and tires are brand new (OEM Spec) Continental ExtremeContact DWS. No other alignment issues known as the car doesn't track left or right either.
