I have a Prius i-Tech 2007. I had gone overseas and came back after 2 weeks. On return, the smart key just didn't work. It didn't open the door...I took out the mechanical key and opened the door. Then I inserted the key in the key slot and tried to start the car but it just didn't react at all.
View 3 RepliesI was on vacation during march first week and my 2006 prius didnt start after that. I do not have the smart key with me and have only the manual key. I just called the Toyota as it is a certified vehicle, they tried jump starting but it did not work. Does the car needs the Smartkey to be inserted in the fob? I have it in my city where i live 200miles away. (parked car in my friends place). If it does not need smart key in fob, does the 12v battery is dead?
View 5 RepliesI parked my car (outside) and went on a business trip for three weeks. When I came back last week, when I turned the car on, the brake light and the ABS light were on. And it hasn't turned off since.
The car was working fine and didn't show any sign of troubles prior to me parking it, no funky light was on. What could be the cause? It wasn't driven during three weeks. What could have deteriorated to cause these lights to come on? The car seems to be braking fine.
FYI, before getting to my car last week, after leaving parked for three weeks, I mistakenly pressed the Panic button. And I didn't realize that the Panic button got stuck and was continuously in circuit. And it stayed like this for an hour before I realized what happened and fixed it. Not that I think that it can have an influence on my current problem, but thought I would mention it anyway...
If I park the car at the airport for 10-14 days, do I need to disable the remote key fob? I could not find any information on this in the manuel. I have a Prius 2014.
View 6 RepliesI've got a 2007 Prius and the buttons on one of the smart keys no longer works. With the key in hand, I can touch the door handle and the door will unlock. I can also turn the car on without placing the SKS in the slot. However the lock/unlock/emergency buttons don't work. Everything works fine on my other SKS so I don't believe it's something with the car. I've also checked the KEY button below the steering wheel - it's out.
I've just changed the batteries on the broken SKS. Even going as far as pulling the battery out of the completely functional SKS and putting it into the broken SKS. Still, the three buttons don't work.
Smart key fobs do not work in touch mode.
Replaced batteries in both fobs.
Both fobs start the car and lock,unlock and alarm sounds when buttons pushed.
BUT... touching the lock slot on the door or trying to unlock the door by touch does not work.
My locks on the driver's door do not work when the vehicle is parked. The locks work find from the other doors, the keypad and the remote. Also door ajar light comes on. When the vehicle is moving the locks work fine.
I replace the lock switch, but it didn't make any difference. I loosen the three screws holding the mechanish sprayed with lots to WD40 and moved the mechanism around a little, it worked a couple of times, but then back to nothing.
Thinking about replacing the door ajar switch, but not sure of the relationship to the lock.
2005 Honda Civic which has been pretty reliable up to this point. Had all the suggested maintenance services up until the most recent which just passed. Last oil change and inspection: Early November.
Last month:Went to start up the car and it basically went all blinky with power. But after letting it sit for a minute or two, it started up just fine. This happened three times. On the third time opened up the hood and found corrode on both polls of the battery. Scrubbed and cleaned the posts and connectors. Had the battery tested and it was just fine. After that no problems or occurrences. Only things that lingers in my head is that perhaps the driver door window rolls down slowly (thought the motor was going out and would have to replace soon) and the headlines would slightly dim and waver at times, but not consistently.
Now:Just got back from vacation and car has been sitting about two weeks. Mostly in weather below freezing, but in a garage. Went to start up the car and the starter would rev but the engine would not turn over. Battery seems to be good still. Jumping did not work either.
recently the remote locking buttons have been acting weird. The locking system itself may be to blame but let me elaborate. Lately I've been trying to lock the car with the remote, but sometimes it will beep once, lock the car, then immediately unlock it. This will repeat if I try it over again. If the car is locked, the remote at times will not unlock the car and twice I've had to manually unlock it.
View 13 RepliesHave a chance at a 2006 Gen2 wreck for parts or repair. It was towed home by a tow truck with wheel lift. Owner isn't sure where the Smart Key is. Daughters' car and tow truck co. nor daughter are sure what happened to Smart Key. Car doors and some windows are open.
Now, I assume that if the Smart Key isn't in the car, then it will be locked in Park and steering locked as well. (I'm presently driving a 2002 classic and not sure if the steering locks on Gen2s when smart key is removed.)
I only have a dolly or a trailer with ramps. Either way I need to find a way to get out of park and unlock the steering. I haven't inspected the vehicle in person but figure if the accessory battery is dead, I could jumper at the terminals under the hood.
Is there a way to lock all five doors (4 passenger doors and hatch) without using the smart key OR the keyfob? See, I'm an avid backpacker, so I like to leave the SKS off when I'm going out for 5-8 nights. My keyfob is broken, however, such that the lock and unlock buttons don't work, but the smartkey does. So with the smartkey off, I can manually lock the 4 passenger doors, but the hatch is still accessible. How I can lock all five doors without using the smartkey or the keyfob?

I have a 2007 Prius. Last night, my neighbor said he thought he heard my car alarm going off. I used my car fob to turn the alarm on then off to ask him if that's what he'd heard, and it wasn't. Seems he mistook someone else's car for mine.
Today, I find my car's smart key functionality is limited. I can keep the keys in my pocket and still unlock and lock the doors, but the engine won't turn on, instead displaying the key symbol on the dashboard; I need to insert the fob into the slot instead. None of the buttons (lock, unlock, alarm) on the fob work. The smart key button under the wheel is protruding, as I believe it should.
I am not sure if I need a new fob.
My smart key quit working. I have replaced the battery, and checked the button under the steering wheel. The little red light on the fob does not blink or light up when I push it. I think I recall this light coming on when a button is pushed.
I have a Prius 2007 with smart key, the problem is the driver's door does not unlock while touching the handle sensor pad. I works perfectly with the other door and with the hatch one. The interior light turns on when I get close to the driver's door which means that it's not the proximity sensor.
It stopped working like a year ago, the weird thing that last winter and during the snow time exactly it worked like there is no problem at all! After that when the weather got better it stopped working again! Is it something related to temperature/humidity? or it was just like a one off happened by chance at that time?
Is there a way to diagnose the touch pad sensor and fixing it?
In comparing the battery drains on a Camry hybrid versus a Prius Gen II hybrid I discovered both have three stages of battery drains after a door open incident. On a Gen II Right after the door is open the drain was 1.37 amps.

2. Change new 3V battery inside the remote
A purchased a new 12 volt battery at the dealer. I was getting weird warning lights, so I had them run diagnostics. They said all the codes were voltage and I needed a new battery. Shortly after this I noticed the Smart Key no longer opened and closed the doors.
The car starts ok.
My question is this, could the changing of the battery have caused this? I tried searching for the answer BUT all answers refereed to adding a new smart key purchased on Ebay.
All of a sudden, my 2008 prius, basic package without the smart entry system, stopped locking or opening the doors when i pressed the button.
At first i thought it must be a dead battery, so i replaced it with a new one and got the exact same behavior. i checked the old battery and it was still giving off 3 volts as was the new one when i checked that with a volt meter. when i press any of the buttons on the key, a small led light goes on and on the dashboard a picture of a key lights up briefly. the owner's manual does not show the key as a warning light.
My 370,000 mile 2001 has been relegated to being parked at the Metro station to get me from the train station to work. I only use it about once a week now, and haven't used it for several weeks because I was away on vacation etc.
I checked on it today just to make sure its still there and hadn't been vandalized, etc. (fortunately, no issues on that front). However, when I start it up (started no problem), it ran ok for a bit, then seemed to run rough intermittently, then ultimately, the ICE shut off and the warning lights all came on.
I was able to drive it around the parking lot on battery power alone, but the ICE never started. I didn't have my (non-prius aware) code scanner with me, so I tried resetting by disconnecting the battery for a minute or so. That allowed the ICE to start again, but it did the same thing again.
When I was briefly able to see the MFD energy display, I could see that the traction battery is only showing about 25% SOC.
I recently discovered a squeak when the car is parked and I move the car forward and backwards. The harder I push, the more it squeaks. I went to a mechanic who told me the struts were "bad" and needed replacement.
