Hearing a slight clunk noise inside the back of thier gen 2? I've taken apart all the paneling used foam tape to secure things and took apart the spare tire area etc and the clunk persists. It seems to vary intensity every time I close the rear hatch.

View 6 RepliesAfter being stonewalled and hassled by Toyota, the corporate office finally authorized a dealer to change the backup beeper to the one-beep mode. But now, when I carry furniture or lumber, etc and tie down the rear hatch with a rope, the beeper beeps constantly as long as the vehicle is moving.

View 7 RepliesI'm getting a rattle in the hatch area -- making a sound as if the hatch is moving independent of the body.
Sound like the hatch is loose -- but it's not. If I grab hold of the wing and try and move the hatch ---- it's tight and I get no sound.
Rear hatch will not close securely. It is "loose" and balks at being fully latched.
View 3 RepliesProblem: I left a dome light while in the airport parking lot when I went on week long trip. When I returned the 12V battery was dead.
Question: How do you get to the 12v battery in the rear of the car? Rear hatch will not open without power.Using the key to get in the drivers door, I had to get someone to crawl over the back seat and connect cables to jump start the car.
What am I missing? Is there a better way to jump start the car? Is there another way to open the rear hatch without the 12v battery power?
How do you open the hatch from inside? Is it any easier than in previous models?
View 19 RepliesThe rear spoiler on my 2005 has always had a bit of "flex" to it and I've always been careful not to use it to open or close the hatch. Unfortunately, I can't be sure that others not do that as it really is the place someone would think to grab to close the hatch.
Anyway, the other day I noticed that the spoiler had picked up a nasty rattle whenever the hatch was closed. Looking from the outside in I saw that there appeared to be two plastic fasteners (one on each end) that held the spoiler in place. If I pressed down on one side the other side popped up and vice versa. I was able to get the spoiler back to where it originally was (loose but no real rattle).
The car has never been in an accident and the spoiler doesn't appear to be bent in anyway...it just seems as if the fasteners aren't holding it down as tightly as they should. Is this the norm? Should I replace the fasteners and any instructions on how to do it?
Will it drain the battery to leave the rear hatch open for extended time? i.e. for tailgating or camping (2008 Prius)
View 6 RepliesProblem is noise that you can describe as clunk, not any harsh or sharp sound. It appears on road bumps or unevenness during slow speed up to about 40kph/25mph. The noise has not been heard over that speed even in bad bumpy roads.
List of thing I've done so far:
- Driven with empty rear compartments
- Driven with open rear door
- Checked the tightness of spare tyre
- Replaced rear stabilizer bar linkages
- Replaced rear stabilizer bar bushings
- Replaced rear axle carrier knuckle bushings
Could it be possible not coming from rear? Should I sit in the cargo space while somebody else driving, any success with this? What to do next?
Today I started noticing a squeaking sound coming from the brake pedal when braking slowly. After I put the car in park and inspected any noises from the outside, I realized that a squeaking noise was also coming from the rear brake drums of the car. It was perfectly find yesterday and this morning it started.
View 3 RepliesAlright so about a few weeks ago I started hearing what sounded like it was time for new brake pads. But the other day I turned the corner and my neighbor came up to me and said he heard my truck making a metal on metal type noise. So I said okay fml, took it to a local mechanic.
Called me today and said the brakes are fine but it's rear differential, he said they put the truck on the lift and used the stethoscope and heard a metal noise inside the rear differential and said that the fluid in there was very metallic.
I bought this truck about 7 months ago from the dealership. It has a total 90,000 miles on it. What does it look like this could cost me worst comes to worst?
I just replaced all 4 struts on my 04 Camry. The car has 87,000 on it. I went with the Monroe OESpectrum struts and new strut mounts (Monroe). Springs looked fine, the rubber spring seats were fine as well and the bellows, so reused those items.
I now have a noise in the rear end that I did not have before. It sounds like it is coming from the lower part of the car and is not metal sounding. It is a very dull clunk when going over bumps in the road and is coming from both sides.
I replaced the sway bar bushings a couple years ago. I checked those and there is no play and appear to be fine. Also checked the sway bar links and they seem fine to me, but not sure what makes those bad. Torqued what I could. Used an electric impact wrench on the strut nuts and could not torque that because the rod spins.
I am taking it in on Monday for an alignment and to have the shop see if they can figure out the noise. Is it possible that the new parts could be binding and the alignment may take care of it? I have doubled checked my work and everything appears to be on correct.
I have Toyota Prius 2006. Last night suddenly the rear right door didn't open from inside and it still doesn't want to open from inside. It opens from outside OK but is not opening from inside regardless what we are trying to do. It only one door misbehaves, the right rear door. How to fix this problem and why it happened?
View 9 RepliesI'm new here to the F-150's forum although I've owned a few since 2001. I bought this F-150 '05 5.4L Lariat. Really nice truck. But when I purchased it, it had this weird noise inside the cabin. I thought because it had a camper on it that some tranny noise was coming up thru the camper and the rear cab. After taking camper off, the noise was still there. From everything I've read online, it could be rear pinion seal, differential bearing, tranny, front hubs, etc. I have left a video. Pay close attention to the little whine. Kinda hard to hear if your not listening for it.
Note- when i drive it is most definitely coming from the middle to rear of the truck. But I'm not ruling out anything. I have looked underneath the truck and the differential is dry and the driveshaft area near diff is dry. No leaks. I have not checked fluid in diff. Is there an easy way for these trucks? I have read and heard about adding an additive? The noise starts at about 10-15 mph all the way up to 80. I've never taken it past 80 but I'm sure it's still there.

I noticed when driving on a rough surface/road (gravel, snowy road with sand) the there is a considerable amount of noise coming inside the cabin on the rear end especially.
When I was doing a quick wash today I just realized the sound is coming from the wheel base. On the rear and front end there is a plastic covering the wheel base. Sound proofing / undercoating wheel base.
I've got 39K on an 04' R32, just had new tires put on 17" rims and the car was aligned. Whether the alignment has anything to do with these noises I'm not sure but thought I should at least mention it. I'm also still on the original front brake pads if that matters.
So, shortly after getting the tires & alignment done I was driving at around 35-40 mph down a steep hill and applied the brakes. I heard what I'll call a clunk and it felt like something shifted. No other noises were heard or felt until I got home. As I rolled backwards into my parking spot with the tires cocked to the left I hit the brakes and again heard a clunk. However, this clunk was much quieter. It sounded like it came from the front drivers side wheel and I could feel the "clunk" in the steering wheel ever so slightly.
Next day I went down the same hill and applied the brakes quickly and a bit hard. Nothing. No clunk, no noise, nothing. Got home and when parking heard/felt a small clunk. A friend said it might be the caliper or pads shifting which made sense to my ignorant a$$ because the pads are originals.
Since I don't drive the car much I'm waiting on getting it checked out and wanted to do some research here before I take it in. Well, it's time to take it in because now I'm getting a slight grinding noise when the wheel is turned any amount to the right and also when I turn hard to the left. I can feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel too when this grinding noise occurs.
I've seen some posts that seem similar to my situation. They include wheel bearings, sway bar linkage, coil something or other and hopefully not CV joint. Is it possible the alignment caused something to go bad? If so, I'll go back to that shop. I really want to avoid the dealership because I hate being raped on parts.
So on my wives Prius which is an 2007 the rear tires are wearing more greatly on the insides that the outsides and they are wearing evenly on both the rear left and rear right inside. So not one is more worn than the other..
The tires are heavily worn, with that said the car rides extremely bumpy to the point the entire car is shaking on the freeway at 75 mph or higher. So much so it induces motion sickness which is odd for me. So also besides the alignment question, what else could be causing the insane amount of bumpiness? I balanced and rotated them yesterday but that didn't solve the issue.
I have a 2000 mercury cougar 2.5 liter. I bought the car without doing much research. now that i have the car did research and found out all the great problems that this car has. My transmission started to make a clunk clunk noise inside and it started to slip. At first it would go on all gears. then very rapidly started to slip in all gears. In matter of hours went from being good to being crap. i had to accelerate the car to 3000rpm or higher to make the car start moving. So i bought a transmission from a junkyard. I install it and did not work. The car did not move on any direction. I pull it out and look at it and found the small shaft that goes from the torque converter to the gear body was broken. I end up getting another transmission from the junkyard. I check it and everything looked good. I install it and got everything back together and that work on reverse but no forward. To get it on reverse I had to accelerate the car to 3000rpm. I being told that if I change the solenoid inside the transmission might fix the problem. It could be the transmission module that is burned out.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to figure out what is wrong with my Prius. A few weeks ago, there was a big rainstorm in California, and I accidentally backed into what I think was a storm drain under very deep water. I heard a big thunk, but there was no visible damage to the car. A few days later, I noticed a low groaning noise that comes from inside the cabin, somewhere around the center console/front passenger side. I usually only hear it when I am moving at low/moderate speeds and turning the wheel to the left, although occasionally if the road is bumpy I hear it with my wheels straight ahead. For a couple weeks, I thought the noise only happened when moving-- however, last Friday, I was sitting in the car, which was parked on a hill with the wheels curbed (steering wheel all the way to the left). I turned the car on, and immediately the car started groaning (even though the car was in park). Then, after about 30 seconds, the gas engine turned off (I think that's what happens when the car gets much quieter after idling for a bit) and the noise stopped. SO, it happened when the car was in park as well.
