I took my Prius II to the dealer to get my key fob reprogrammed. While doing that they did a routine check and noticed that my serpentine belt was quite worn. I had them replace it.
View 2 RepliesI am very concerned regarding how often my serpentine belt needs to be replaced. First time it was replaced at 104k, second time dealer replaced it at 126k, third time at 153k. Today I went for oil change (173k) and the dealer told me that it has little cracks and recommend replacing it. Is it normal? Could it be something else is affecting it?
View 11 RepliesToday I had my 2004 1.8T Passat in the shop for a few minor things. The car has only 89,000 KM's (NOT MILES~ I live in Canada) on it. They told me that my serpentine belt was needing to be replaced (which I knew) and they recommended that I to my timing belt at the same time. They told me that you can buy a kit that has the timing belt, tensioner and water pump in it. Anywhere I have read it has said to change your timing belt at 120,000 KMs.

View 11 RepliesLong story short is, I replaced my 2007 Santa Fe's serpentine belt and it still squeals for some time after we start the vehicle (then stops) ... but more importantly I *think* its still slipping if we're driving during rain or on very wet roads.
Long story long is ... the problem appeared as loss of power steering and air conditioning when driving during rain. Took it to the dealer and they suggested to replace the serpentine belt, replace the shroud (plastic) that covers the belt, and replace the timing belt. As we have 36k miles on it, no one I talked to understood the timing belt suggestion. I see though perhaps its just because the car is 4 years old? The shroud the dealer claimed was cracked and may be letting water in on to the belt. However, they completely removed it and did not replace it so I was not able to inspect this myself (wife took the car in for the appointment).
I bought the new belt and put it on. The squeaking was gone but as soon as I hit rain again, the slipping was back as bad as before (and we'd lose power steering / air conditioning same as before). I had a 1.5 hour drive in rain where the belt was slipping almost nonstop; constant back and forth between catching and slipping.
When the replacement shroud came in I thought that might solve the problem - keeping moisture off the belt. However with that in place I'm afraid there is still some slippage as I've noticed some dashboard lights come on during brief heavy rain. Also the initial squeaking is back when we start the car.
My wife's town and country had its serpentine belt replaced. Now it won't go past second gear and is running 3.5 rpms at 40 mph. What do I do?

We did replace the coolant. The 2005 Toyota Prius never ran hot before the replacement, What did we do wrong?

View 7 RepliesCan a frayed serpentine belt cause a clunking/grinding noise? The clunking grinding noise has been going on for about 2 months and it goes on and off, Last night it started squealing and I checked the drive belt and it is frayed on the outer edge.
I have a 2005 Prius with 86,000 miles. All of these issues started about 2 months ago, the day after an oil change.
Serpentine belt break? My 2005 Prius has 132,000 miles on the original belt, so I thought it's probably due for replacement. I went to an independent garage to get an estimate ($80). But the owner said that he has never heard of one actually breaking. He said that they are reinforced with fiberglass, so they just don't break. He recommended that I look for missing chunks and listen for squealing.

View 11 Replies2006 6.0l ... I've read all over for tips on routing this belt and everyone plays it off as being some simple '20-minute' task. I'm on my 4th hour on this now.
I can't figure out how to route the belt around the tensioner pulley, circled in the picture (from another thread). Everyone glosses over how to do this and I can't figure it out.
It seems like the only way to get it on is to bend the belt and slide it between the pulley and the block, but that I just can't reach the blasted thing.
I bought a 2004 6.0L F-250 used a few weeks ago. There have been a few problems here and there that I have been competent enough to fix. I am now facing a problem of A: the truck not starting (I believe it was just a battery problem, charged and started fine). But also B: I have had a slightly frayed serpentine belt that I noticed a few days ago. After I got the truck running from my the no-start and driving it around the block I parked it and went inside. Came back out a few minutes later and I tried to start it. It hesitated a little bit but started with a loud whining noise and white smoke coming from the belt. Turned the engine off and saw on one of the bottom wheels (pulleys?) some residue that looked and smelled like burnt rubber. Is this just simply a need for a new belt?
View 5 RepliesI have had my Tiguan S for almost 2 years and it seems that I keep having to get it towed. I just had it to today because the serpentine belt came off when I was driving. After I bought it the fuel line was loose and it had to get put back on and after about 12000 miles my tranny went out and had to get replaced.
View 2 RepliesI have troubles with what I thought would be a basic job: removing the belt on my 2004 Solara so that I can remove the alternator. I can't get the belt loose enough to slide it off, no matter how hard I try.
The wrench I'm using is about 12" long, I'm a big guy and I've done powerlifting in the past, meaning I can apply lots of strength on that wrench. I've just watched a youtube video of a guy with the same engine removing his belt, and he exerted a lot less effort for a lot more wrench travel. I thought that using a breaker bar is extreme.
Pulled off front bumper today with no success, seems like the whole radiator and a/c unit must be removed?
View 5 RepliesSo the PO of my Jetta had the alternator replaced...awesome! One less job for me to do. My serpentine belt went out yesterday so I chalked it up to being old. When I got the new belt on it kept slipping off, I pulled the tensioner pulley off and saw that the wheel was all chewed up, I look down and saw that whoever put in the alternator didn't bother to screw in the bolt all the way and it chewed up the belt and everything else.

View 1 RepliesI looked through the MKIV DIY stuff but didn't see one. My serp belt is in need of replacing soon. Seeing some cracking on it for sure. According to records from the PO it was bought as part of the timing belt kit at the end of '09 so I imagine it was changed then...just didn't think it would be so cracked so fast!
Anyway, looking to replace it in the coming weeks. If I could be pointed in the right direction that would be awesome. I do have a Bentley, but I find how-to's on here to often be better. But if I need to just follow the Bentley, I can do that too.
