Prius (2004-09) :: Running Without Upper Splash Shield

My question is this. Is it imperative that the upper splash shield be installed on the Prius at all times?
I am trying to monitor the level in the radiator to see if there is a leak. I want to remove the splash shield and drive the Prius for an extended amount of time without the shield in place.
Will this cause any sort of problem? Refer to item #27 in the picture below for more detail of the part I am asking about.

The engine splash shield to my 2010 Prius fell/tore off after ran over some chunks of ice and snow. (The plastic "flap" that folds down to allow access to the oil filter and drain plug. My local dealership says I need to replace the entire plastic lining under the vehicle to the tune of $250+.

I seem to have cracked the black plastic part located directly under the front bumper. When I was parking it caught rebar and pulled it and it cracked. The pressure clip popped out but I was able to pin it back in. Is this called correct a splash shield? Again it's that black piece of plastic immediately under the regular bumper.
It has caught before in the past and I am considering just removing it completely. If it is indeed the piece it looks like online the part is around 35-40.
I'm halfway tempted to just leave it. If the car were new its a different story but if it works just taking it out without any issues then that's certainly an option too.

Today, on the way to the Lego User Meeting in Virginia driving at 65 mph in the morning on 495 - the oil change access door of my 2010 Prius III engine cover/ splash shield ( part 51410-12101) popped off - it made a popping noise when it broke. Couldn't stop because I was in the middle of a superhighway. It was half way off when I got to the meeting in VA. The Prius is so low - the shield was impossible to reach without a lift. On my way back home to Maryland, the oil change access door fell off completely albeit I didn't see or hear it fall off. My 3 year warranty is up and I have +38000 miles on the odometer so I'm pass the TSB 0032-11 coverage now. I've raised my car on Monday _ nothing else is damage - san a missing oil change access door.

I noticed pulling out of the garage today that my car is leaking oil. It looks like it's all getting on the lower splash shield, then dropping out the back from the passenger side. It's leaving about 8-10 drops a night it looks like.

So I was at a track event and pushing 150 mph and heard this terrible sound. I look in rear view mirror and saw something black flying through the air. I thought it was my carbon fiber diffuser but turned out to be this.

Looking for a guide to replace the under engine splash guard and spoiler (Part# 17 and 19 on Parts.com front bumper illustration)?
I just purchased a '05 Prius and the last owner curbed the front bumper thus breaking most of the attachment points on the bottom of the bumper and splash guard.
I see the exploded illustration but it is not very detailed.

Ok, I just figured out how to customize the Startup Image..the instructions are on page 48 of Nav System Owner's Manual. I have the Advanced Tech Package.
The Image has to be a JPG or JPEG image up to 10MB. On your home PC, you create TWO files on a USB thumb drive, one called "StartupImage" and "DisplayOffImage" (Both Case sensitive). You put the files (images) that you want, inside the "StartupImage" folder. You then go to your Prius and plug into the USB port. You then go into Setup -> General -> Customize Startup Image. Then just follow the onscreen instructions and your done!

A couple of days ago I noticed that one of the elements in the upper rear window defogger/defroster isn't working. It's the fifth one from the bottom I believe. All the other elements on the top and bottom seem to be working correctly. Is there a way to correct this without taking it to the dealer?

My ex-wife has a 2008 Prius. When trying to get heat, either using Auto A/C or manual, the display panel shows that only the floor vents are open. However, forced air is flowing from the upper vents on the dash. The air from these vents is not warmed. It seems to be unheated outside air. It's unclear whether this is a new problem, since the owner doesn't know if this behavior has been there since she bought the car. She does report that the car has always taken a long time to get comfortable in winter.

Past couple of weeks, when i drive car 45+ speed,I can hear wind sound from inside car even after closing all windows , i am getting sounds from next to driver seat upper side speakers, I tried 4 to 5 repair shops in mira mesa(san diego).

I've had a Prius since 2006, and bought the 2010 in 2009 when it came out. This is the first winter I'm having a problem with the splash guards under the engine coming loose and hanging down.. I went to the dealer on 1/27 and had them put back in place. I went back again on 2/10. I looked under the car and again one side is hanging down. They dealer explained that it is a plastic clip that holds them in place. I don't drive over big lumps of snow & ice.

I was driving down the PA turnpike and heard rear-end noise. I pulled over and this piece was hanging down on the right side in front of the rear tire and at the back edge of the rear door, right where the muffler is. I did a search and found this to be a common problem with the 330s but did not see anything on the 350s. I drove another 500 miles to the beach and then back home without any noticeable affects, but not that I looked underneath.

What the front wheel well liner shields that are held in by plastic clips are called there are made out of rubber cardboard fiberish material they keep water and debrie from getting in through the wheel wells. Need to know the part number.

My '04 Camry console has two compartments. The lower compartment is large and the upper small. The small upper compartment serves as a lid for the lower compartment.
The upper console lid latch has a plastic tooth that latches into a hole in the lower compartment lid (which as I explained about is also the upper compartment itself). Yesterday that plastic tooth broke off so now the upper lid will not latch. Here are pictures of all this. Looks like the latch assembly would be easy to replace.
I called the dealer this morning to get a new latch. They don't sell the latch separately -- you must buy an entire lid. This lid looks more difficult to replace. I called a couple of salvage places and they didn't have any, but when they have them they only sell them as the entire console.

I'm trying to remove the upper control arm on a 2004 F-150 2WD. I took the wheel off, and it looks like I can't get the bolts off that attach to the frame off without taking out the shock and "coil over"? Is this the case, or is there another way to do this?
