Prius (2004-09) :: Replaced 2 Modules In Hybrid Battery - Code P0A80
May 10, 2015
I have 2005 Prius with 300k miles. I started throwing P0A80 code. I removed the battery and checked all the modules and found 2 of low voltage, ordered them from Ebay and replaced them. I placed the battery back in the car and started the car but got P0A80 code again. I purchased the grid charger from Hybrid Automotive and connected it according to their instructions for 24 hours. I drove a car but got the red triangle again and P0A80 code again. I removed the battery again and tested the voltage of all the modules and these are the readings:

Have replaced dead cells on wife's HV battery over a month ago. Threw this P0a80 code today and will barely move. She idles into dealership and they say it's the battery, really!

Recently my 2nd gen Prius has been acting, strange. I hoping to get some insight to the best way to fix the problem, so I will include as much detail as I can.
Over the weekend I went to go run some errands and while I was leaving my neighborhood, my dash lit up like a Christmas tree, with the red triangle, CEL, low tire pressure, and the exclamation on the MFD. So I quickly turned around and parked it back in my garage.
A little later and after doing some research on the forum here, I began to troubleshoot, at which point the feeling of dread was at the pit of my stomach and decided to go to the local auto store and have the code read. It was of course the "P0A80 - Replace Hybrid Battery Pack" the exact message I didn't want it to be.
So I turned around and went back home, the entire time all the lights stayed on and monitored the SOC of the traction battery. It was charging, just increasing and decreasing quicker than usual.

I turned on my car this morning to find myself faced with a variety of colored lights, including a little red car on a black bar on my MFD. Drove straight to the dealer and received word that the car was throwing codes P0A80 and P3023 and they recommend replacing the hybrid battery. I have a 2006, have done all the recommended maintenance at the dealer and it has about 133,000 miles on it.

I had a 12v battery issue that I see common. 12V battery does not crank car. Jump car and works fine for a few days. I had this issue and it went away. Dealer said replace 12v battery, or just carry my charger pack with and use that unless it gets worse.
Jump ahead 2 months. I drive 50 miles each way to work 5 days a week. No issues. Yesterday, after my car sitting all day, I am backing out of driveway and get the red triangle. Code was P0A80. I looked it up. I cleared the code and was going to dealer if it came back. Today, after driving 50 miles into work, no issues, I get the red triangle. Code P3021. Fan started running back there too
My question : Would replacing the 12v battery useful for this issue?

I have a 2006 Prius, It has 165k miles. Recently it gave me a code to replace hybrid battery pack, I read this code with my scanner from HF. I have changed out a battery pack with replacing the bad modules before so I am not a bigger with the system. I took out the pack and checked and it seemed like all the modules are in the 7.8 range. This was confusing since the code reader was saying to replace the battery pack. I put it all back in the car and tested it again and got the same results. It seems like the HV system is not being recharged any longer. It seemed odd, normally when I remove my foot from the gas the system shows the car regenerating power.. Now when I step on the brakes I only see that. The system does charge but randomly it will drop down where there are 1 to 2 bars left and then charge back up again.
P0a80
C1310 malfunction in HV system (when i read about this people say this is a ghost code that comes up from the battery pack.. but maybe not in my case.

I had my hybrid water pump replaced (free, under recall) about a month ago. Now the check engine light comes on intermittently, and it's with error code 1121 (Coolant flow control valve sensor stuck). I've seen other people on this forum hypothesize that the work could cause this error (if not bled properly, leaving air in the system). But my dealer said the work had nothing to do with this error and I need to replace the control valve. How to suggest to my dealer that it could, in fact, be due to their work and that I think they should fix it for free?

I've pulled the HV battery from my 2007 Prius with 144, 000 miles given recent Red Triangle of Death (P0A80) and looking to replace battery pack but want to rule out the ECU. I've searched the threads and found mention of testing the ECU but wasn't clear.
How to test the HV Battery ECU in or out of the car? Using a volt meter and light bulb, etc......I would really like to rule out the ECU before putting dollars in a rebuilt battery pack.

My 2006 is doing some weird things. I have gone through a couple of HV failures and each time if I got the P0A80 code there was always an additional code telling me what was wrong. Not this time. Some times the battery will sit there while it shows that it is being charged and not take a charge. i.e. not come up off the pink bars, Sometimes it will charge all the way up to green and then fall off dramatically This is really strange because it is not showing any other code other than a crank cam sensor. The 12 volt battery seems to be ok.

My car has been fine with no changes besides tires last week, its a 2006 Prius and yesterday I got lights on my dash, went to auto zone for a read out and got an HV error code. I was wondering what is the most affordable route for my car to get repaired. I don't notice any mpg differences and everything still charges and recharges as if the errors don't exist.

Was driving home from school yesterday and my 2005 Prius turned the check engine light on and the red triangle light. Plugged into the scan tool it read: P0a80. I have a hybrid battery ordered. It should be delivered on Tuesday. How long can I get out of this failing battery before the car is undriveable? The Prius is my only vehicle and I don't have a problem with installing the battery, I just I'm wondering if the car will just drop dead on me before the battery gets here? The car appears to be driving normally with no loss of performance or MPG.

2005 Prius. I just don't want to jump ahead to replace the hybrid batteries right away. Can I still drive the car, some place people say it is okay to drive then eventually it would get weird...

I have 05 Prius, 97,000 miles. Noticed the HV battery charge level indicator moves up and down rather quickly and often. It rarely shows full charge and this condition seems to be worsening. This is with mostly city driving.
I'm concerned that the HV battery won't last much longer. To make matters worse I had recently moved to AZ heat, though my Prius is garaged, the heat can't be good for it.

Bunch of warning lights appeared and the dealer said it's code P0a80 and they recommend replacing the battery. I'd like to try to fix this myself and would like to hear your thoughts...
Plan is to check the traction battery for corrosion and use a voltmeter to test the cells and replace if needed. Prius 2004, 158,000.

My Prius has started throwing the code P0A80, it all happened after I went away for work and left the car in storage for 15 days, during that time I left the OBD scanner plugged in and it drained the 12v battery, a quick jump start and it was back up and running.
While I was backing it out of the driveway the warning triangle came on and the MFD said "problem" the scanner showed the P0A80 code. I thought that was odd, but maybe related to the flat 12v battery and self discharge of the traction battery so I reset the code, it drove normally to the shops. When I restarted it and started to drive it threw the same code again.
I then installed techstream on my laptop to try and get some more in depth answers but was having trouble getting that running on Windows 8. So overnight I disconnected the 12v battery and would try again in the morning.
I got techstream working and connected it up to the car, connected the 12v and started it. While I was configuring techstream to graph the pack voltages I noticed something odd, the engine was being loaded and unloaded in 2 second cycles, and at the same time the inverter was whining as it does this. I was thinking maybe it's doing some sort of charge and measure cycle since the ECU's have lost any pack data due to the power loss of the 12v battery?
It ran like this for 20 mins or so and the engine stopped, techstream showed pretty normal cell voltages, I couldn't see any wild differences between the cells.

I'm guessing that I need to repair or replace the HV battery. But I'm not sure.
Today I drove for about 20 minutes with no issue. 10 minutes later, I got back in the car to drive again. This time, after about 20 seconds into the drive, a string of dash lights came on; Red triangle, VSC, Check engine.
The VSC light went away. But the red triangle and check engine light are still on. So, I had the trouble codes pulled by a mechanic, and the code P0A80 was returned along with a statement reading 'replace hybrid battery'.
Should I take this at face value? Or look for something else first?

I just switched out my hybrid battery and put in a brand new one. Now, the car isn't doing anything and all that's on is the check engine light. What now? I was told I had to tow it to Toyota and have them reset the computer. Sound right?

2006 Toyota Prius, bought new in Oct 2006, currently at 90,000 miles.
It just recently broke down on me about a month ago, the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree with every possible light flashing and nav screen showing "problem." I took it to the Toyota dealership and they determined it was a hybrid system fail and replaced the battery.
After this, I'm thinking all is well. I go out of town this past weekend 130 miles away from where I live and day 2 into vacation my dashboard lights up again! Same lights, flashing red triangle, Vsc, check engine, etc. it gets me back to my hotel but the next morning the engine won't start. At least the first time it broke down the cars engine worked and was somewhat drivable.

My husband just replaced the spark plugs in my 2005 prius with 174,000 miles (also replaced the right headlamp bulb). When I started the car, the PROBLEM check engine light Hybrid Warning Light came on.
Owner's manual says take it to the Toyota dealer. The dealer is 50 miles away. Is it safe to drive it the 50 miles? It drove okay up and down my driveway.
