Prius (2004-09) :: Removing Stuck Wheels - Won't Come Off
Apr 10, 2011
The left driver's side wheel is "stuck." The car is up on the jack, the lug nuts are all off, but the wheel will not come off.

View 15 RepliesMy brother-in-law has an '04 with ~160K miles that we're potentially interested in picking up from him. It's been sitting for awhile with the parking brake on. When going to try it out today I released the parking brake (it seemed to release okay) but both rear wheels were stuck. I drove it a few feet and the left rear freed up but the right rear would not budge (multiple attempts.) It was dragging on their driveway and I could barely get the car back out of the way.
Looking for (videos, manual, etc.) how the parking brake works? Is there an external adjustment I can reach or some place to try to release the cable? We had an '06 that our daughter now drives but I've never had any issues with rear brakes in 200+K miles on that car.
How do you remove the center cap on the wheels on the 337? I do not want to damage them.
View 16 RepliesI just noticed that my black brake calipers look dull. I used my finger to check it and behold, the shine is back. Is there anyway i can clean the brake calipers without removing the wheels?
View 13 RepliesI have a 2010 F-150 Lariat and from the salted snow and slushy roads I have rust stains on the wheels. It is not severe and I dont think the wheels are steel but I would like to remove the rust stains without damaging the wheels.
View 7 RepliesMy ride is 06 Passat v6 4motion. I got 45K on it.
Last night, when I came back home, I could not pull out my key from dash. I tried several times to pull out my key but to fail. So I left my key in the ignition hole and locked my car using spare key. This morning, I tried again but still stuck in dash.
What is worse is that when I arrived dealer shop for that problem, I could pull out my key from dash!
How to disable the 12v DC-DC converter or what fuses I can remove besides the fusible link in the fuse box? I cant even find a writeup on how to remove that fuse...
View 19 Repliesi tried to fix my door actuator in my 2009 prius. However after I closed my door, now I can't open it from the inside or outside. I can reach in the door and manually pull the level on the actuator and is still will not open.
Now I just want to get the actuator out and put a new actuator in. Hopefully this is possible and if so how? Yes I still have the interior panel off and the vapor barrier pulled back
The brake actuator on our 2006 Prius (95K miles) was activating (pump turned on) every 20 seconds or so. I used AutoEnginuity (AE) software to monitor the pressure of PACC (accumulator pressure sensor) and the pressure dropped rapidly once the sensor voltage got up to around 3.1 volts; therefore, the pump would activate again and this cycle would keep repeating as long as the Prius was turned on. Therefore I decided to replace the brake accumulator and its associated resistor. I purchased a new brake actuator and its associated resistor from Toyota. The brake accumulator replacement went well but when I tried to locate the resistor to replace it, I was dismayed to see that the old resistor is very hard to access (even though I took most of the dash apart to find it).
In my 2006 Prius, the resistor is on the driver's side near the body and high up under the dash. I think I understand the reason for matching the resistor value with the resistance of the pump windings but I am going to use the old resistor and see how noisy the pump is. BTW I referenced Toyota website (TIS) for how to do the replacement procedure and now I am going to see how good AE software (latest version) is at bleeding the various components. This is FYI when replacing the brake actuator and wanting to know where this resistor is located and how difficult it is to access.
Looking for a video or directions on removing the front seats (driver and passenger) so that I can take them out of the car and give them a very thorough cleaning. Possible with a hose on a sunny day so they dry fast. I couldn't find it under the search option.
View 5 RepliesThe molding around my windshield on my 2007 Prius is looking pretty bad, looks like dried out Sun damage but doesn't leak. Is it replaceable without removing the windshield?
View 3 RepliesI just bought a 2010 RX450h and it is in overall great condition. The leather is damage though on the Rear Driver side door panel, so I am trying to remove it and get it repaired. I have removed 3 screws :
-one behind the door open/close latch
-one under the wood/window switch
-one in the handle area to pull door and close
I am now trying to take the panel off and have the bottom part pulled off. But I can't seem to pry open the top part... Am I missing something or a screw? Is there some trick? I am scared to break it.
A small piece (triangle shape, about 1/2 inch in the base and maybe 3 inches long) of gasoline station paper towel got stuck in transmission dip stick and went inside the transmission when the dip stick was put back. It happened very quick. When I pulled out the dip stick, the paper towel piece was gone. I'm assuming it went in or stayed in the tube where the dip stick is housed. Drove the van about 230 miles to go home in a combination of highway and city driving. So far, no change in transmission performance.
1. Is it harmful to the transmission and if so how could I remove the paper towel debris?
2. Will changing the transmission fluid and filter (not flush) work?
(Btw, I read that it is not a good idea to do a transmission flush for cars with 100K miles or above) I'm hoping the paper towel piece will disintegrate in the fluid and therefore I don't need to do anything. Or perhaps if it doesn't integrate, it will remain harmless.
I drive an 06 Prius and it just started making this squeaking sound from the wheels when I steer. When I make turns you can hear the sound both ways when turning the wheel.
I took it to the dealership for the steering recall but they didn't seem to find anything. Is it just something I can lube up to make it go away or is it something more serious?
When I drive my prius and make sharp turns or any sort of UTURN, the wheels lock up, automatically brake and there is a grinding noise as if the wheels are rubbing and there is a beeping noise. I took my prius back to the dealer for warranty repairs and the problem persists. is this a normal thing?
View 1 RepliesCar works perfectly otherwise. Good battery, a yellow top less than a year old. Made sure lights weren't on, took in and out of park, tried starting and restarting moving in and out of park. Turned steering wheel -- nothing seems to make a difference. What we can do to diagnose?
View 4 RepliesYesterday my Prius got stuck in N and would not go into R or D, and I could not power down either. It finally did power down and I was able to reverse but it was very stressful because I was in an automatic garage that parks and stacks cars without human intervention and I was nervous the thing was going to time me out and repark my car with me inside, trapping me indefinitely.
View 3 RepliesI inadvertently pulled the fuse which controls the fuel gauge yesterday while looking for the fuse that controls the AC outlets. I put the fuse back but now the fuel gauge is stuck at 1 (blinks) and it will not go up - I know I have a full tank.
I called the dealer where I bought it and the guy said to leave the car off for an hour to let it reset, that did nothing. The dealer is an hour round trip for me and I'd rather not have to hike out there, what I can do to reset the gauge?
The last time I got gas the shut off switch on the gas hose did not shut off. I was standing there and I shut it off immediately. There was some overflow. I have gone 170 miles since this fill up and the fuel gauge has not budged from totally full. I bought the car new and normally it would be down about half a tank by now.
I disconnected the 12 v battery. After reconnecting it the fuel gauge still reads totally full. I know about the problems with the gen 2 fuel tank- bladder, fuel pump and other components inside the tank.
I wouldn't be excited about getting a new fuel tank with only 43k miles.
For the past few months when I first start up my '08 it sounds like Curly (Three Stooges) is yuck-yucking under the hood. This occurs right before the engine kicks in and he yucks about 6-8 times. (A few times he yucked after I turned the car off too) This morning when I hit the power button the big red triangle came on and the car didn't start until the third attempt. Ran fine all day. From looking at this site I'm guessing that the triangle means I should check the 12v battery. But what about the yucking??? (Where's Moe) Is it related to the triangle? I am also reading about various recalls and am wondering if there is a website that lists them. How do I tell when my car is manufactured? Several of the recalls mentioned on this forum say the recalls cover only certain months of a specific manufacture year.
View 14 RepliesI read a couple posts on Gear Shift switching back to neutral. Here is my situation. Got in the car to return some movies and realized I left them on the table. Went back to the house, and right before I turned into the driveway, noticed a metal coffee cup had come out of the holder and the edge was up under the accelerator. I had been applying my brakes to slow for the turn into the driveway, then when I went to accelerate, nothing, then noticed the cup.
Removed the cup and stepped on the gas to go into the driveway. Nothing. Turned the car off, then back on and tried to put into drive, goes a tiny bit then slips back into neutral. Tried it in reverse, same thing, pops back into neutral.
I can hold the shift lever in position and the car moves. It's in the driveway now and will get towed to the Toyota dealer tomorrow. Obviously a problem with the shifter as a result of the "coffee cup" under the edge of the accelerator. And yes, I know it's dangerous, hubby used the car last on his visit home this weekend and apparently the coffee cup either got put down on the floorboard or was knocked out. I bring it in the home when I'm done.....anyway.
So, the most likely cause was the spring talked about in other posts breaking, or a switch sticking or what. Seems like something got knocked or shifted out of adjustment. Does the accelerator have some type of cut off switch if something gets lodged under it?
