Prius (2004-09) :: Rear Running Lights Are Intermittent?
Dec 3, 2013
I was informed by a neighbor today that both of my rear lights are out, turns out it's not the bulbs though.

View 4 RepliesCar was running. Both rear running lights out.
Intended to pull #9 'stop' fuse. (I did not see #16 'tail' fuse). Instead, pulled #8 'OBD' fuse. Returned the #8 OBD fuse.
Last nite a driver told me that both my rear tail lights and and running lights were out - but brake lights and license plate light worked ok. I checked the bulbs are they are fine. Where I can find a wiring schematic for the 07?
View 5 RepliesThe rear tail lights on my truck have been out for a while now. I wasn't doing much driving at night so it wasn't much of a bother but the new job is getting me home a little later and having to drive with my hazards on is getting old fast.
My radio wasn't working either and I disconnected it a while back hoping maybe it had something to do with my lights shorting out but no luck. It remains disconnected. Just in the past few days my front running lights have went out as well.
I've tested all fuses multiple times (and replaced a couple of them) and checked and replaced bulbs. My brake lights, headlights, dash lights and hazards all work fine. I have the trailer light hook up on the rear bumper and disconnected it at the wiring harness as well hoping it was the problem but it wasn't.
I have a 2007 Prius 5 with 205,000 miles. Just recently, while Im driving the Red Triangle blinks on intermittently along with an annoying beeping. I took to dealer and they diagnosed error code C1300 which indicated that I needed a new "Brake actuator assembly with skid control ECU". I declined price tag because they said it's nothing critical (despite that it sounds rather important), and car will run fine without replacing this part. However, they said "nothing we can do about the intermittent red triangle and beeping".
Is this true? It's a very annoying noise. I know that it is possible to turn off the reverse beeping. Isn't there a fuse associated with "beeping" that could simply be disconnected?
..few days later having some problems: red triangle, vsc, car with exclamation point. Took the car to toyota and scan came back with codes p0a08 and p0a09. Toyota diagnoses as needing a new inverter converter. However, the indicator lights are very intermittent and the car shows no real symptoms. I should mention the HV battery and 12v battery are brand new. Does this seem right needing a new inverter converter? Could it be something more simple like wiring/harness to converter?
View 1 RepliesWhile DRLs are great where you need them (northern countries, rainy places) some people don't want them on all the time. The Gen1 Prius (2001-2003) with Factory DRL's is a bit a pain to defeat. You cannot just pull a fuse or relay and the main DRL relay is a complicated unit that is burried far far under the dash.
View 2 RepliesWe have a 02 Sport Trac that has intermittent brake light problem. All other functions for the bulb filament for the brake lights work! Turn signal and flashers work great. The brake light that is above the rear window works, BUT the brake lights on the rear of the Sport Trac work when they what to.
Right now I can not find a cause that causes them to not work or to work. This morning they worked in the garage but did not work as my wife pulled out of the driveway. Last night they did not work on part of the way home but worked coming into the drive way.
I have a 2004 Nissan Xterra that has been chugging for a few months now. The problem is intermittent and only happens about once or twice a week when driving, but when it starts to chug (feels like it is running out of gas, jerky, will not accelerate) it is unsafe to drive on the freeway. I have taken it to several places and no one can figure out the problem. It was pulling two codes the speed sensor on the transmission PO500 - and the knock sensor code was coming up along with that. I had the speed sensor replaced twice and checked the wiring. We replaced the fuel filter, checked the fuel pump with a fuel gage and fuel lines, replaced the distributor cap and rotor, put in a new MAF sensor and still nothing is working to remedy the chugging. My last stop is replacing the knock sensor for $600, the problem is that the Nissan Mechanics (I visited two dealerships in different cities) told me not to replace this as it would not cause chugging. Several other mechanics around town tell me that they are wrong and I do need to replace it.
View 13 RepliesI am working on a customers 08 F-350 5.4l has 135k on it. came in with a severe rattle/knock, running poorly, and dying at stops. ECM gave up 8 codes relating to the timing... Found the phaser replacement steps here on FTE and followed them and replaced the VCT solenoids since i was in there. Customer reported that he replaced the cam sensors already. Ran great for a day, and the next day when I pulled into the shop it gave me a rattle. Not as violent as before but noticeable. I special ordered the wedge and followed the replacement to a 'T'. I have no performance issues and no codes.
View 5 RepliesChecked fuses, still can't find short or reason I don't have running lights. Which fuse the running lights operate on, maybe I can trace it backwards from fuse box.
View 1 RepliesThe rear driver side running lights don't work, brakes blinker and reverse lights work fine, I tried the panel from the pass side on the right side and the same thing happened everything else but running lights. Where do I start ?
View 2 RepliesI have a 1996 ford ranger and i have no tail lights i have license plate lights, brake lights, Hazard and turn signals. But no running lights on the rear end. Where the grounds are for this circuit and if some one has a schematic for this ranger...
View 9 RepliesI have a 2001 7,3 TDI. Yesterday I rented a trailer and when I connected the cable from the trailer to my car, the rear running lights and the dashboard lighting died. I have checked all the fuses. I read that the dash lights go out when the rear running lights go, but I cant find out what fuse or relay to change. I have checked the fuses in the car and in the engine room, but I cant find a broken one. What to do ?
View 2 RepliesWe've got a 2011 Prius with a little over 24k miles on it . For the last few months we've been having issues with it starting. First I thought the remote barriers were dying so I replaced them , I thought my wife might have been trying to start it incorrectly till the problem happened to me a few weeks ago. What happens is you try to start it (foot on brake, press power button) and all the warming lights pop up , radio turns on , navigation turns on but car doesn't start. This morning it happend just once , yesterday I had to try it maybe 10x before it finally started up. The dealership had it last Saturday and of course it started every time for them and they couldn't duplicate the problem , they also said they ran whatever tests they do on it and it didn't turn up a problem. FWIW we had the software recall update done in June.

No rear running lights or brake lights
No third brake lights
Headlights work
No signals or hazard.
I have power to the multifunction switch when I use a jumper wire to bypass the switch I can make the lights come on depending on which slot I put it in. I replaced the multifunction switch twice just to see if I got a new bad one the first time, but to no avail. I cant run my truck a night without the lights.
I have a '95 dually and it has small yellow running lights on the rear fenders. The only time those lights will come on is when the headlights are on (or parking lights) and I put it in reverse. Not sure, but I would have guessed they are supposed to on when the lights are on and go out when the truck is put in reverse.
View 5 RepliesI have a 1995 Ford f250 Powerstroke and i do not have turn signals, rear running lights, brake lights or reverse lights. i checked the fuses and they seem to be good but i dont want to tear everything out to check the harness if it could be a bad ground. any insight?
View 1 RepliesI live in Canada and a few months ago I purchased a used 2011 Prius III from a Dodge dealer in Arizona. Part of the Canadian RIV import requirements was to have daytime running lights installed in the car. I figured since I'd have Canadian Tire do it because they're also the ones doing the provincial and federal inspections. So they installed a module something like this: Daytime Running Light System | Canadian Tire
View 1 RepliesMy 2012 Prius v dashboard lights no longer are turning on. They light up at initial start-up, but then all but a few icons on the far left and far right of the screen go out. This happened right after I played with the heat / AC controls.
View 5 RepliesIs there a way to turn the daytime running lights off?
