View 19 RepliesOccasionally my Prius 2nd gen has no dashlights when I start it up. No speedometer no gas mileage no gas gauge and also the car won't turn off by pressing the power button I would have to hold the power button for 5 seconds. To get the dashlights on I would have to pull out the aux battery out and push it back in. That fixes it sometimes but not all the time. Sometimes I would just drive it like that and eventually it would come back in on its own the next morning. It's pretty annoying.
View 3 RepliesImmediately after parking my 2005 Prius (around 127k) on my block last night, I decided to turn the car back on to adjust parking, and it just wouldn't start. I got nothing: no new lights on dash, no light on power button. Just the flashing red car with the key in it (which I believe is on as long as the car is off?) on the dash. The car doesn't make any noises when I try to start it, except for a sort of low mechanical noise when I step on the brake (which I think always happens).
View 19 RepliesPressing the power button has no effect. What did I do?
Changed the serpentine belt
Changed the ATF
Drained the inverter coolant
Put in a new inverter coolant pump
I have a 2007 prius. I parked it for 4 months and when I came back it wont start and there's a big red triangle and say 2007 prius transmission problem p lock mechanism. I have replaced the small auxiliary battery brand new but having the same problem wont start.
View 8 RepliesOn Friday I went away for the weekend. When I arrive at my destination I noticed that the gas tank only have one gas bar. I figured I would fill it up before heading back home today Sunday. Then an hour ago I got into my car for a 2 hrs drive home but the car is not starting at all.
The empty spot where I was able to par the car was a small down hill. So I figured that the car was getting a signal telling it computer that the tank was empty even though it was showing a bar but the down hill must had affected the signal. A friend took me to a gas station where I was able to put at least 3 gallons on it.
Before I went to the gas station the car key would not get out of the slot and it was telling me something on the screen and the key was been blocked. So to the gas station we went then we put the 3 gallon and ZERO!! My car is still not starting up. I called a local dealership but the service dept is closed until tomorrow The person who answered said that there is nothing to do but to take it to the dealer tomorrow so they can reset it. Is he right on this? I remembered once before when I ran out of gas and I put some gas in the tank and was able to crank it up after putting gas in it. Then went to the gas station and filled it up. But this time nothing is happening. Do I need to ad more gas? What should I do. Also I must ad that after adding the 3 gallons the car panel is black and no msg is showing at all. Like all is dead
Earlier this morning when it was about 14 degrees F out, I got in my car to go to work. I noticed there was snow on the windows. In my early morning stupor, I thought it was light enough for the windshield wipers to remove. So as soon as I started my car with my foot pressing on the brakes, I immediately turned on the wipers--it was virtually done at the same time. I saw the wipers start to go up but struggled to lift the heavier-than-expected snow. Then I felt the brake pedal pushing back a bit and that's when the car dying down on me. A bunch of dashboard lights came on while other dashboard lights faded out.. Eventually, everything faded out.
The only light I remember that was on was on the Push Start button.
At some point, within a few minutes as I was trying to figure things out in this panic, I put the FOB key into the slot (it's usually kept in my pocket) and then I started my car as normal. I started up but I noticed everything dashboard light was on while it said my gas was near-empty (It was last seen last full).
I turned my car back off again. Then I turned it back on and, after a few strange dashboard lights switching on and off, my car started to resume normally. The gas tank was reading as expected.
After a few minutes of making sure everything was working just fine, I drove my usual 30 miles to work and here I am now trying to figure out why..
My 2004 Prius is due in the shop Tues for a hybrid battery replacement. Codes indicate only one cell bad BUT...It is obviously having some problem running. We were very low on gas yesterday but wife filled it before she came home.
She parked it in garage. The Hy Batt indicated all green bars. She may not have pressed the Park button before Power - I do that a lot too.
This AM I changed the spark plugs before I tried to start it. I then started it (ICE & started-sounded OK) and backed it DOWN the driveway into the street and started down the street. The ICE stopped.
The batt indicated one blue bar so the batt would not propel it. After trying a couple times to make it run, I disconnected the 12v grd and let it sit for an hour. Then I reconnected the batt and the ICE again started showing hybrid at 4 blue bars and stopped after a few seconds. Tried it once or twice more, same thing.
2005 Prius was dead this morning. I had left a light on a couple of days ago and had to jump it. It started right up. I only drove short distances in the next couple of days, so I thought battery hadn't charged fully. But when I tried to jump it this am it was to no avail. Took battery out and had it charged at parts store, reinstalled and still nothing..
I pushed start button twice without foot on brake;it just flashed some symbol quickly, nothing more.
After 10 minutes running errands in stop and go traffic, I noticed the VSC warning light. It was a hot and humid day (mid-80's). Made it home and was unable to open my garage door with the mirror that is equipped with an automated door opener. I turned the car off so I could open the garage, and when I tried to start my car again using my smart key, it would not start. I put the key in the key slot and was able to start the car, but the smart key, radio, windows and automatic door lock would not work.
Mileage is just under 25K.
We have a 2007 Prius with 70,000 miles on it. Twice now, the car has refused to start. Yesterday we tried to jump start it, got nothing. We went shopping with the other vehicle, came home, and then it started when my husband unlocked the car with the remote. It happened again today. I always use the smart key, it wouldn't start. Dead! My husband took me to work, then came home, unlocked it with the remote and it started again. What's up with that??? We just had it serviced a few weeks ago.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2005 Prius with 64k miles, I bought used from a Toyota dealership, Toyota certified. It was purchased in Nov of 2009. In Nov of 2010, I moved the car onto the grass in my yard to make room for guests in the driveway. It was fairly cold out, but I don't think below freezing.
The battery was at all blue bars, with only the top two green ones not charged.
After I moved the car I turned it off and opened the door to get out. The car started beeping at me as if I had left the key in. However I had the key in my hand. I put the key back in, started, turned it off, took the key out and opened the door and the car started beeping at me. (identical to the sound when you leave the key in)
At the time I reasoned that it must have always done that and went back inside.
I have a 2004 prius that had a HV batyery problem. HV battery was rebuilt. After that car started ran but after shut down it will not start. It will only show red triangle, abs, vcs, yellow tire. Basically all yellow lights on dash board except check engine. Also on the MFD it shows the red car with exclamation symbol. I scanned it but shows no DTC codes.
View 16 RepliesMy Prius 2005 with 105K won't start. When I hit the START/STOP button while pressing the Brake pedal very hard, the READY lighthe blinks a few times then disappears. I used a Acton OBD II to find the codes, but NO DTC was logged. What could be the problem? I am thinking about towing it to the dealer next week.
View 3 RepliesI had my dead 12V replaced two weeks ago with a new OEM batt. The car had been working fine until I parked it in the garage four days ago. There was a single bar of HV charge left at that time, at least according to the MFD. Today it's stone dead, not even a single beep or a blinking light. I've attached a working 12V battery to the jumpstart points under the bonnet and the dash came alive, but the car would not start. The HV battery gauge on the MFD had no bars, and the shifter indicators were all flashing.
Is my HV really dead? Would it really take only four days to discharge completely and take the new 12V with it? Perhaps the OEM 12V was faulty and another 12V battery (not a booster) is not enough to jumpstart the car?
I checked the voltage of my battery after sitting for 6 hours and it was 12.3 (through the diagnostic screen). The battery is only about a 1.5 years old.
A couple times I go to start the car and the dashboard lights turn on and off, the brake pedal feels like the hydraulic turns on and then off (with the lights) and it just cycles like this, unless you turn it off. Sometimes it starts after a few cycles.
A couple days ago I tried starting it and the check engine light came on (but no other lights). Then after trying a few more times the lights came on, but almost like acc mode (wouldn't let you put the car in drive). Then after trying more the gas gauge went up to full and started blinking, as well as boxes around the drive, park, B icons on the dash (almost like the computer was resetting). The battery seemed low, but after a few minutes it started up fine, and drove home.
Since then I've had the first issue return where it feels like the car is turning on, off, on, off.
I have a 2004 that all of the sudden will not go into gear or start, it was fine one evening and then the next morning nothing.
View 19 Replies"Vehicle with smart key system: The indicator light flashes after the "POWER" switch has been turned OFF to indicate that the system is operating." I have noticed that my immobilizer light will not blink when it has the no start issue. usually when the key is out the light blinks but when it won't blink.... it won't start.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2007 with 46,000 miles. Today I went out to run an errand and when I got to the store, the start button would not shut off. At the same time the dashboard went dark so no speed or mileage could be seen, but no warning lights came on. I tried pressing it repeatedly to no avail.
View 12 RepliesI'm having trouble with the dash slot. The car will start if the key is just in my pocket, but when I go to put the key fob in the slot, the car will not start. Normally this isn't a problem for me because I never take the key out of my pocket, but when I went to try and get a remote starter installed, they said the dash slot needs to work correctly in order for them to install the starter.
View 1 RepliesFriday morning i got in my car to go to work, noticed that the gas engine never turn on but thought maybe the hybrid battery level was high. Drove about 300ft and noticed the gas engine never turned on and now the hybrid battery level was very low, immediately i turned around to go back home but before i made it the car shut off.
Current dash lights on are, Red triangle, vsc, abs, brake light, a yellow light with a circle and exclamation point, my gas gauge flash full to empty, (YES IM SURE I HAVE GAS IN TANK). Recently replaced 12v battery with yellow top optima battery. Also the check engine light IS NOT ON.
