My red triangle light came on! and the PS light came on the square screen and my power steering is in the dumps (doesn't work).
Where would be the first place to check? could it possibly be the accessory belt that came off/broke? is it hard to access/replace that?
2008 Prius with 284,000 miles-never had problem. Now, started car, no power steering (red triangle). Ordered new power steering control from ebay, went out of town for 10 days. Return, car is DEAD! Trickle charge via fuse block, get car started finally, still no P/S, but it shows charge then shuts engine off. Start and it does same thing.
View 1 RepliesI changed my oil, oil filter, air filter at 90k for a trip to Miami this past weekend. Uneventful on the way up. On the way back, stopped and did some shopping before hitting alligator alley to come back home. As I got on the alley after paying the new $3 toll my 05 prius with 90k miles on it would not go over 65 with my foot on the floor and the battery on the mfd was in the pink. So I drove to the nearest exit, checked the fluids etc, all good. Got back on same thing so I put on hazards and stayed on until i could get off on a much slower road. I was going about 55-60 and it would go no faster.
As I got to a place I pulled over DC'ed the negative battery cable and let it sit for a half hour. I then attempted to get going and it seemed to be running fine until I attempted to pass a car and the car seemed to lock up and lose all power, check engine light came on and the red triangle light came on. I pulled over and let it sit again. I then got it to a gas station with the check engine light on. I put a few gallons gas on and tried to limp it home. It made it home and the battery seemed to recharge back to all the blue it can get to, but has yet to hit the green.
I have a 2006 Prius. For some reason I've noticed that the buttons on the steering wheel Do NOT glow and they do NOT work...
Horn doesn't work either! And the light on the driver side door (for windows/lock/unlock) are NOT lit up either...?? It's all black and dark @ night..
Is there a fuse/relay for these type of things? If so...where do I start looking?
I took off the Airbag from Steering wheel and removed steering wheel to double check everything...and everything looks good. No damage. Wires are all connected well etc.
Started having problems with one of the key fobs for my '09 Prius about a year ago. Battery change, perked up a bit, but then started malfunctioning. At first, wouldn't unlock car doors, then wouldn't start car. Will do so if insert into the fob receptacle, but not remotely.
I'm trying again to revive it, since it only lasted 4-5 months before. Won't unlock car doors again, etc. Unlock button does not appear to be stuck - you can feel it "clicking" when you press it, so it doesn't appear to be the stuck button problem.
I tried a few used batteries I had laying around, so then I ordered the exact battery that was in the fob, Panasonic 2032 and it still doesn't work. The car has always sensed my hand at door and I still don't need to put the key in the slot. I can just push start, but the lock and unlock buttons don't respond.
I've read that the red light should come on when the buttons are pressed, and they don't with the new battery so the new battery is probably too weak.
I have a 2005 Pruis and the remote entry does not work. Changed the battery in the remote and I still have to put the remote key in slot to start the car. Been working fine for ten years.

View 2 RepliesI am not sure if they are related or if they happened at the same time but my wife said her heater/ac fan wasn't working. So I figured it was a fuse, but after visually checking all the fuses and I mean all, none appear to be blown. After checking all the fuses I turned the car on, only to find out I put a couple fuses in the wrong locations and re-installed according to the diagram on the back of the cover. Turned car back on and heater fan as expected did not turn on. Then I noticed the Trac light on, not blinking or beeping just "on". After looking on the forums and web this means that it is turned off. If it is just off how do you turn it back on?
View 3 RepliesI have 2004 Honda Civic LX 4Door. Here are the issues with it.
-When I use remote controller to lock, it locks up the both front door, but not the back doors. When I unlock with remote, it unlocks both front and driver side back door, but passenger side back door.
-When I use lock controller on the driver side door to lock while door is open, it locks up only the passenger side front door
-When I use lock controller on the driver side door to lock while door is closed, it locks up the both front doors, but not the back doors.
The 2007 my wife drives has no power assisted steering as of yesterday. This afternoon I drove it around the neighborhood and yup, its like driving a 42 DeSoto.

Plugged in my ScanGauge II and there are no DTC codes. Am I correct that this is a failed steering ECU?
I bought a new auxiliary battery online and installed it. I reset the driver's side power window. But my CD changer now beeps four times, all the lights turn green and orange, and I cannot play a CD from the changer or eject any of the discs. Both discs currently stuck in it are store bought Third Eye Blind CDs with no stickers, labels, etc.
I'm assuming that the CD player needs to be reset. Someone in another thread mentioned unplugging the battery for 20 seconds, while someone else said I need to enter a code that I can get from the dealer. I can go without the changer but the beeping is maddening.
My wife and I own a 2006 Toyota Prius that we bought used 2 years ago. a couple of days ago, the master warning light (red triangle exclamation point) and check engine light came on. I took it into the dealer and of course, our hybrid battery was dead - battery and a new ECU required.
Our car is at 99,000 and 32 days out of warranty. Went down the road to atlanta hybrid repair. they were incredibly nice, and said that my computer was fine, but the battery would need to be replaced.
The red triangle warning light on our 2004 came on and went away again It has 100k miles If I take it to the dealer can they pull some codes and figure out why it turned on We have to drive the car to 600 miles for the upcoming weekend and I don't want to be stranded on the side of the road The car has 103,000 miles We just replaced the 12v battery so I know that is OK
I also saw the following things to check. Is there anything else we should check?
1 - Are any warning lights on besides the red triangle? For example, the red BRAKE light, the amber ABS and VSC lights, or the amber circular icon?
2 - Did you check the brake fluid level? If low, buy a new container of DOT3 brake fluid and replenish as needed This fluid will dissolve paint, so do not spill it
3 - While you are at it, check the radiator and inverter coolant levels by looking at the translucent reservoirs behind the radiator and next to the inverter If low, fill with Toyota Super Long Life Coolant
I'm getting the triangle &a red power light and the word "problem" on the display. No codes show up. Car won't start anymore. I went to check mode pushing the display and lights on off 3 times to check the battery.
I was able to turn it on once (after disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it) and the 12 v read 14.7
In diagnosed mode and no load It reads 12.3. It reads 11.8 under load (pushing power bottom again but engine still off).
Just want to get some input before throwing in the towel. The horn doesn't work as pressed from the steering wheel. Took the horns out and tested it manually by connecting it to the positive terminal and ground of the vehicle. One (high) didn't work while the other (low) worked. I purchased an aftermarket replacement for the high pitch horn and installed it. Still nothing. Checked the fuse inside the fuse box by the right side engine bay and it is ok. Can't find the location of the relay since we bought this used from the dealership. No manual and the cover to the fuse box (inside the vehicle) was missing.
View 7 RepliesThis Prius is an '04 with 156k and it will only start with a jump box. I went into the display and found the 12 volt battery reading 12.2 volts after sitting for 4 hours. When driving stop and go around town I will get the red triangle of death and vsc lights but NO check engine light comes on. Using a Scangauge it shows no codes, system ready. I look into pending codes and there is nothing. However when I force clear pending codes the triangle goes away.
It's strange there are no codes associated with this fault. I'm thinking to drive it and not force clear the pending codes and maybe a code will show up eventually but I'm not sure.
This morning I went out to warm my car up for a few minutes because it has been so cold and when I started it the red triangle warning light stayed on and the consumption screen said "problem" across the top with a little icon in the upper left hand corner that looked similar to a high beam headlight indicator. I turned the car off and started it again wondering if it would clear which it did not. I left it running and went inside to get my child and by the time I came out it had cleared itself.
In typing this I recall that I thought it stayed on a little longer than normal the other day and just ignored it thinking it was still in lamp test mode on initial start up.
2005 Prius 190,000 miles....Red Triangle and brake light on panel....as soon as you park and try to restart it will not engage in drive or reverse....check for codes show nothing....the last time it happened i was able to use an obd2 device with an iPhone to clear codes even though no codes were displayed and get the car home with out a tow... 12 volt aux battery shows ok ...
View 14 RepliesWas driving home from school yesterday and my 2005 Prius turned the check engine light on and the red triangle light. Plugged into the scan tool it read: P0a80. I have a hybrid battery ordered. It should be delivered on Tuesday. How long can I get out of this failing battery before the car is undriveable? The Prius is my only vehicle and I don't have a problem with installing the battery, I just I'm wondering if the car will just drop dead on me before the battery gets here? The car appears to be driving normally with no loss of performance or MPG.
View 4 RepliesI bought a 2005 prii with 145k miles about a month ago and have since driven it 1,200 miles. A few days ago, the red triangle light came on when I started the car in the morning. I had to get to work so I unplugged the negative on the 12v and reconnected it. It started and it drove just fine. I get off work and the same thing happens. I did the same thing and drove home just fine. I then ordered a optima yellow top from elearnaid and it was shipped and arrived in 1 day!!!
I installed the battery this morning and called the dealer to notify them of my situation. The light didn't come on so I thought it may just be the 12v. But of course I didn't wanna run out of warranty and then the hv battery completely goes bad. The dealer tells me to bring it in and I did. They "diagnosed" the car and could not "repeat" what had happened to me. They said because I unplugged the 12v, it erased any codes. I thought it's always saved on the ECU? anyways, I told them about installing a new 12v battery and they said, "that must be it." I'm at 147k miles right now and I don't want my 150k / 10 year warranty to expire before something really goes wrong with the hv battery.
Am I just screwed and hope for the best for miles to come? Or is there a Toyota number I can call to tell them of the situation? I'm almost hopeful that it was only because of the 12v but at the same time, I have doubts.
