Just bought an 06 with 79k miles... overall in great condition, but when I pull into a parking lot or my driveway or anywhere that has a bump there is a noise... sounds maybe like a strut or shock... is this a common noise as we near 100k miles???
View 7 RepliesSo recently my car has been making almost a crunching noise in the front end of my car usually pulling out of the driveway or hitting any type of bump. But it doesn't seem to always happen. It's a louder crunch when it's colder out. It almost sounds like a rusty door being closed/opened rather then a crunch. My car has just about 77k on it and this is the only issue I have with it.
View 16 RepliesI have about 48k miles on my 2010. Colder weather seems to bring out lots of noises. I can hear a suspension crick noise when I hit a bump and slow speed up the driveway apron. Got me thinking about shocks and struts. How long do they last?

View 6 Replies2014 4Runner SR5, 4k miles... It is sporadic, but here in the Midwest the weather is frigid. Is it normal for brand new pads to squeal right when I pull out of my driveway? It goes away, but I never had this with any other vehicle.
View 6 RepliesSo when driving my tuck the steering on it would sorta lock up like it wanted to push the truck to one side then it would free up and the steering would be real loose it just felt like it had no power steering to one side it's not the same side each time and it pulses when I'm at a stop if I move the the tires Erving the motor doesn't seem to work so far I have replaced ball joints and all tie rods they needed done anyways it would still do it got an alignment done last week and it almost seems worse now could just be coincidence.
I'm thinking power steering pump but when the steering locks up to one side I'm also wondering if it's the steering box it's kinda hard to explain it what's going on and there is no popping noise or anything when the steering frees up. It's kinda scary on the freeway when I go around a corner the steering gets real loose and wonders back and forth not all the time but quit a bit but when going strait it will feel like it wants to pull to one side then the steering will loosen up again. The steering will wine only first thing in the morning when I pull out of the driveway then it's fine
My 08 Prius with 35K made strange creaking noise when driven over bump or dip when it 's cold. The dealer have had the car for 4 days and they said the noise came from bad control arm.

View 4 RepliesI'm not sure what the noise is, but it sounds expensive. Backed out of parking spot, started making an awful clunky grindy noise. Put in drive and more noise but no go. Put in neutral, still grinding but stopped after a minute. Pushed back into spot, waiting for AAA. Interesting it would not go into park from N until the grinding stopped. No lights on dash interestingly, except the snakes chasing your car (traction?) light flashes intermittently while it's grinding.
View 7 RepliesI have to pull up really hard to get the parking brake to hold. If I'm on a hill forget it, I yank up really hard and then leave it in gear just in case. I have installed new cables and pads. I have also have the lever adjusted so it starts to catch when you pull it up about 2-3 inches. I've never driven another mk4 so I don't have any other reference to how well the parking brake should hold but I would think that I wouldn't have to pull up this hard to get it to habe any real holding power.
Any other vehicle I've driven with a hand brake I could easily lock up the rear tires. I'm lucky to get mine to lock while pulling so hard I think I'm going to break something. I've searched around and have only come up with threads about replacing cables and adjusting the lever. I couldn't find anything like the problem I'm having. Is this normal operation for a mk4 or is there something wrong with my calipers that needs to be addressed? My regular brakes work fine and the parking brake arms on the calipers allear to be functioning properly. They contract then spring back on their own
Was driving into the driveway last night and I noticed headlights were out. Was on the road for about 30 min, I was driving in the city, I assumed they were on. So after pulling into the driveway, I went out and slapped both headlights, they both came on. Sounds like I need to maybe check connections, clean, lube, etc. The car has 150 k on it.
View 8 RepliesI drive a 2007 camry hybrid. i live where there is a lot of snow and unfortunately my only place to park is in the street. last winter, a couple of times i had an incredibly difficult time getting my car to move because the 'automatic traction control' would engage as i tried to pull out of the parking spot. there was a decent amount of snow, but if this automatic feature hadn't engaged, i would have been fine.
I know in the newer models, there is a button to push near the steering wheel that turns off this function. this is not the case with my car. is there any other way i can disengage this function?
In my haste last year i quickly read a couple of other messages suggesting i go through a series of depressing/releasing the brakes, followed by turning on/off the car etc etc (like a video-game cheat code!), however i had no luck.
I have a 2010 Toyota Prius that has always since day 1 had a ratcheting clicking noise in the steering wheel column.
The sound occurs each and every time I pull out in reverse from a parked position then as I am pulling forward as the wheel straightens out the noise occurs.
I just had my EGR valve and hose and DPFE sensor replaced and the truck is running better than it has in quite a while except that whenever I turn to the left and pull into a parking space it dies.
I've read that it could be a bad power steering pump. This would make sense because mine is pretty noisy when I make a left or right turn. However, it has never caused the engine to stall before. This didn't begin happening until immediately after the recent maintenance.
Is there something I should be looking for that my be related to the new EGR valve/hose or DPFE sensor?
Noticed this rear suspension noise on their RX330's. Every time I go up a slanted driveway (driving into a driveway at an angle, not head on), there is a clunking noise coming from the right rear of the car. The sounds it makes is almost as if I the spare tire is lose hitting on the right side of the car. This only happens if I am driving into a driveway coming from the right side, the sounds does not happen if I am entering my driveway from the left side.
View 1 RepliesI have a 1999 cadillac Deville that my mechanic says needs a new front strut mount. My symptoms are mostly in cold weather a very slight groan when parking the vehicle or turning into my driveway. It seems like it happens when the steering wheel is on its return back to center and it can be felt slightly in the wheel and heard as the sound a zip tie makes when pulled together with a slight groan. The car has been recently aligned and rides pretty good but sometimes can be a little noisy over bumps.
View 6 RepliesI own a 2004 Prius with about 122000 miles. Today I was driving up a steep gravel driveway, going very slowly and slipping a little. The VSC light was blinking and then the car came to a stop. At that time, the big red warning light came and check engine light came on along with a message on the info screen reading "Problem". AND most distrurbing of all, a pinkish car symbol warning with an exclamation mark through it that the manual tells me to take it to the dealer immediately.
View 4 Replies2008 GX with 42K and just driving home and battery light comes on and a whirring noise--pull over and open hood smell strong electrical smell--ok Alternator fried. Got it home and battery light off but still when I put a meter to my battery with engine running its only putting out 13.4V? should be at least 14.5-6 correct. Has to be Alternator cause of the symptoms and the burning electrical smell..
SO WHO has changed alternator and how hard was it? Im looking for it and I think its under the Power steering pump it seems left side engine looking at it.??
I have a 2008 RX350. When i shut off the engine and pull the key out i hear a constant clicking sound. I dont really know where its coming from but i can kind of pin point it maybe to the windows or door i'm not too sure. I also notice the interior light flickering to the same pattern as the clicking noise.
Second problem - in the middle of the night the alarm goes off! Its the alarm without the horn noise. For some reason i cant switch it off with the fob key. No matter what i do i cant switch it off. So it goes on for about 20 seconds and stops. I just leave the car unlocked after that and it doesnt come back. The alarm noise is coming from the boot....
Third problem Now the navigation screen flickers. Blacks out then the lexus emblem appears then switches back on itself.
I have 2004 Super Duty with a noise in the front end when I hit bumps or backing out or entering a driveway with a lip. I don't feel anything in the steering wheel but I feel it on the floor board with my feet? Where to begin?
