The noise is best heard at 1:00 onwards, after everything else has stopped. I left everything else in the recording, the volume level relative to the engine etc.
Tonight I left my wife in the car as I ran inside a store, when I returned she said the car was making a weird noise. I didn't hear it until later after we were moving, but she was hearing it sitting still, no engine idle (battery at 5 bars) but A/C was running. I am suspecting maybe it has something to do with A/C.
The noise sounds like a low grumble rubbing. She said at first she thought someone was rubbing something against the car. But it seems to be coming from the passenger side dash, like behind the top glove box.
I have a recently purchased 2004 Phaeton V8 that has developed a mystery noise under the dash. It occurs when the engine is running, and sounds like an electric motor with a bad bearing or bushing. About 15 seconds after starting the engine, it cycles a couple times, then comes on constantly. I stopped by the local VW dealer and they ran some diagnostics to see if any codes were present. There were none. Since I was about to head out on a short trip, and the VW tech said everything was showing fine, I decided to have it looked at further upon my return. But, later that day I did some more snooping with a stethoscope, then dug a bit under the hood.
The noise seems to be coming from what appears to be a solenoid actuated valve that is probably attached to a pump. I went back to the dealer with photos and this new information - more diagnostics were run, and the tech went to look up the part. It didn't show on his diagram, so more research is being done as to what it is. In the meantime, what this is? I think it's some sort of valve for diverting heat between front and rear or left and right. Here are a couple photos - a distant one to show its location relative to the engine, and a close up. Hopefully I can get it serviced or swapped out in the next week or so when I have the 80k service done.
I noticed today in my new to me 2007 that the dash is lifted a little where the airbag is on the passenger side. Should I be concerned?
View 12 RepliesOver the weekend I discovered that the rarely used front passenger's window makes a consistent, continuous, low-pitch grunting noise while being raised up. You know like the motor is about to give up. It hasn't slowed down compared to the driver's window.

What is located under the dash between the passenger compartment and the firewall? i have opened my hood to investigate but do not see anything under there that would make the noise. it almost sounds like the auto leveling compressors that are on some GM vehicles but i know this car does not have that feature.
View 3 RepliesI have an 2005 VW Touareg. I purchased it 1 month ago with 8919 miles on it. I love the thing! However I have a rattle coming from the part that is below the passenger dash. The good thing is it only rattles when i hit a big bump, however when u pay 30k + this is the last thing you want to hear. See Pic. How to remove this black panel so i may fix it? Dealer was no luck the typical "I didn't hear any rattles" ....
View 1 RepliesTruck-2005 F-150 XLT 5.4L ... Problem - Currently when my truck reaches a speed of 45mph+ there is a methodical knocking sound that comes from the passenger side dash. This sound is on the interior and comes from the far right corner of the dashboard.(almost as if someone is tapping with there finger every other second). There is no correlation with anything else being turned on or off that affects this sound.(i.e. air) It simply happens once I reach a certain speed and is not an outside noise. When I slow back down under 45 mph the knocking subsides.

It comes on after starting the ICE, used to come on intermittently, now it's all the time... my hunch is the suspension because the ride has been getting worse, with unusually loud sound from the wheels over potholes!

View 3 RepliesJust started experiencing an AC problem. First started with diminished cooling and airflow. Checked the filter and it was dirty, so replaced it. Airflow is completely restored however the air from the drivers side vents is significantly warmer than the passenger side vents.
View 1 RepliesMy 2006 Prius (Model NHW20) has a strange headlight problem. On the passenger side, the high beam light is out but the regular headlight works.
On the driver side, the high beam is working but the regular headlight is out.
I don't think it's the fuses but I'm not sure. No amount of interchanging the following fuses changes anything about the issue:
1. 10A H-LP HI RH
2. 10A H-LP HI LH
3. 15A H-LP LO RH
4. 15A H-LP LO LH
So I was riding with no music on--had family in from out of town--and noticed a strange noise coming from behind the dash on the driver's side. Hard to describe but almost a liquid-type noise (although not a liquid) and repetitive. Doesn't happen all of the time but happens frequently. Not loud enough to hear over music or even road noise on a highway.
Almost a swoosh, swoosh with sort of clicking. Wish I could describe it better.
I am the original owner of a 2008 Prius, and am familiar with the various noises that the car likes to make. However, a new clicking noise has started recently, and need to identify the source/cause, so I can (hopefully) repair it myself, or have it repaired cost effectively.
I have attached a pic of what I think is the source of the noise.
This pic is looking upwards under the dash, above the brake pedal. In the center of the pic is a white thingamajig. This thing is attached to a motor on the right side (to the right of what I think is a yellow bearing or washer), and the other end is attached to a darker gray arm. When the climate control makes an adjustment, the motor turns, the white plastic piece turns, and the arm moves. What appears to happen is that sometimes, the motor continues to operate when it shouldn't, and these plastic pieces all kind of move around, clicking.
This is a true scratching sound...not a buzz or a whine or a squeak. I hear it mainly when the car hasn't been driven for several hours, and it is a constant sound (not intermittent). When I cut the power off, the sound stops immediately. It also eventually stops if I drive long enough (say 30 minutes to an hour). It seems to be coming from the driver's side dash, but I suppose it could be coming from some component under the hood on the driver's side. Of course, my service department is over an hour away and the sound has stopped by the time I get there. They did check for any signs of rodents, but everything was clean. But as I said, the sound stops as soon as the power is cut.

View 8 RepliesThe passenger side headlight of my fiance's 2007 Prius keeps going out intermittently. It's a touring model with HID's. I replaced the bulb already and the problem persists. I searched and found that there is a TSB about it [URL]...................... It sounds like it's either the bulb (which I replaced), the wiring, or the HID ECU.
View 1 Replies04 Camry. There is a lot of wind noise coming from the upper left side of the driver door, same with the passenger but not SO much. I've seen that cleaning the rubber with silicone lube and doing a window frame bend should do the trick, but my dad noticed that when the door on the driver side is close, there is a slight big gap between where the door is and the frame of the car. Upon comparing it to another 05 camry, the gap is smaller. Would that be the reason why i have been getting a lot of wind noise? Or should i try the window bend and silicone lube first?
