My "Maintenance Required" light on the dash is flashing 4-5-6 times when I start up the Prius every time, why?...
I went through all of my Maintenance menu items and most of them arent set to begin with, but the ones that ARE set, still have 4000+ miles til the next service...
I'm still trying to get a manual for my recently acquired 2004 Prius, so I can't trace down what this means....
When I start the car, recently, a "Maint Required" light comes on and flashes about three or four times, then goes away. This is after all the other dash lights during the test phase go out. When I took it to have the codes read, the device said "No Codes" stored.
What does this mean? And is it a serious problem?
So just trying to find out if this is normal. This is my wife's car so I don't drive it every day. I started it up to pull out of the garage and noticed the maint Req'd light blinking, it blinked about five times and turned off. Does it mean anything? if so, what? Just rolled over 100K. We bought it in late january and all the PM was done just wondering if they reset the oil reminder or what.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2002 Honda accord SE. It has about 194,850ish miles on her. The maintenance required light starts to flash when I turn on the car and then the light stops flashing after a bit. What it means?
I checked for any codes and there's nothing. My oil is a bit low, but not at the marker. My next due for an oil change says 195,300ish. I've never seen it flash before.
My bride's 2013 v5 is flashing "Maintenance Required" at a little over 4600 miles. Way too early for the recommended 10K oil change (though we will probably do the first change at 5K)...

View 4 RepliesChanged the engine oil last weekend at the in-laws' house. 800 miles later (they live 600 miles away, memorial day weekend getaway) today the Maint Req'd light came on. I checked the service manual and just as I suspected it said to replace the engine oil.

View 10 RepliesOk, so I had the IM replaced today in my 2010 III due to CEL illumination, will post error code and part # later. Prior to taking it in, my "Oil Maintenance Required" came on upon start up, so I had them do that while I was there getting the IM replaced. Then the service tech comes to me and says, "Your back brakes have 0 pads and you need new rotors, a front end alignment and possibly new tires."
I just bought this car, Toyota Certified, on December 12, 2013!
Maintenance Required Light just started blinking at start up... Blinks 8 times then stops. Looked up in manual. Will start blinking at start up at 4500 miles and then stay on after 5000 miles. Guess it's time to schedule the 1st trip to the service department.
Not much on the 5K check
- Fluid Levels
- check brakes
- Rotate tires
- etc
So I had a random issue today. I went to start my car this evening, and it wouldn't start. The lights on the dashboard (warning, maintenance, etc.) lit up, and the headlights and interior lights were extremely dim. Figured it was an issue with the battery. Used my husband's car to run errands and came back about an hour later. We decided to try starting the car again, and it turned on, headlights and interior lights were normal brightness, but the gas gauge is at one bar, which I know isn't possible because I have only put 166 miles on this tank of gas. I reset the gauge at each fill-up so I can track how my mileage changes. The maintenance light is also still flashing. None of these were issues I had last night, so what could be causing all these problems? Can I fix it myself, or do I need to take it into my Toyota dealership?

View 2 RepliesI am just out of the dealer service period (2 years, 25000m). I took my Prius -v (3) 2012 to my mechanic. He did the oil and filter change, but could not reset the Maint Reqd light. It seems it is different from the regular Prius. I looked on the forum, and tried the suggestions, but none worked. It was supposed to be (with odometer showing).
Turn the “POWER” switch to ON mode. The multi-information displays initial screen will be displayed for a few seconds. While the initial screen is being displayed, press the “TRIP” steering switch (→P. 186) 3 times, pressing and holding the switch on the third time. I tried doing this both with my foot on the break and off, but all I got was a reset trip.
Got 14 Prius V back from first maintenance today and noticed the mechanic forgot to reset the light. So I called my advisor and she told me what to do. Here is process for others to share:
1. Set odo/trip to Trip A
2. Turn off vehicle
3. Hold down mi/hr-km/hr button on dash
4. While holding down button, turn on vehicle to ON state (Press Power button TWICE, but DO NOT press brake pedal - you don't want engine to start)
5. Wait while Maint Req light flashes, then goes off completely - about 4 seconds.
6. Turn off vehicle.
I am going to forego the 25,000 maintenance and do the oil changes & such myself from here on out. How do I make the message go away?
View 3 RepliesWhy this might not work suddenly in a 2014 Prius Five Advanced, where it always used to? Jiffy Lube couldn't reset it and nor could I. Followed the above to the letter. I have Smart Start installed, and the Pioneer Android Auto head unit. Would that matter?

It just went to the dealer at 4,200 mi for an "early" oil change (I had wanted an early oil change done, and the the dealer said it wasn't required til 10,000 miles). So no new oil.
It's about 7 months old, and mostly driven on short trips - our other car is used for the long trips. Tires were rotated @ last service.
Does it actually want an oil change? I'd take it to the dealer, but their next appointment is 2 weeks out.
I changed the oil in my 2012 Prius about 4000 mile ago and reset the "Maintenance Required" light. Today the "Maintenance Required" light came back on. Is there anything else (other than oil change intervals) that turns on the "Maintenance Required" ?
View 8 RepliesI changed the oil. Then I needed to reset the maintenance light. I followed the owners manual directions, which worked and I saw the 00000000 in the odometer. Now all the warning lights are on and the car won't start. I suspect it's related to the order or timing of pushing the start button but I'm afraid to try too many times. What this is?
