I have a 2nd generation prius and up now no problems but today my car continously makes a pretty loud buzzing sound if the car is on or off. No lights are on other than the maintenance reminder light as I currently have 57000 and waiting a little longer before I bring it in for the 60,000 check up.

View 2 RepliesFor the past few months I've been hearing a loud fan-like buzzing noise coming from the passenger side of the front of the car. I don't know that much about cars, but it almost sounds like the engine is racing or something is spinning too fast. It has gotten increasingly worse, and seems especially loud at high speeds on the highway.
It is not the heating/cooling fan - the noise is present when the heating/cooling system is turned off.
In the past few days, our car (2006 Prius) has begun making some louder-than-normal noises while driving. I've determined that the noise appears when you turn the wheel at all to the right (note: not just making a right turn...any degree to the right past straight is enough). It seems to be constant when the car is running, but really only becomes perceptible around 30 mph. The sound is sort of like a buzzing. Maybe a grinding, but not quite. It sounds like it might be similar to this issue (2006 Engine Noise - buzzing, especially loud on highway | PriusChat), but I can't quite be sure.

View 6 RepliesI have recently started to hear (at frequent intervals) a loud buzzing sound that can best be described as a phone vibrating/buzzing while its on a table. The sound happens every few minutes and is pretty annoying. It seems to be coming from around the navigation area or glove compartment - i cant pinpoint it. I turned off the radio and AC and the sound is still present. My Navigation Wood cover has been STUCK for a few months (doesn't come out and shut nor tilt) but not sure if that is the cause here. What can be causing this sound?
View 14 RepliesFor several months now, my 2007 Prius has been making an intermittent buzzing sound from the engine bay. When I first heard it, I thought I had hit the little lines they cut into the road to let you know you've drifted over the center line - the sound is like that, a low-pitched buzzing noise. Today, the check engine light came on as it was making that noise. I put a code reader on the car and got P1121, a bad coolant flow control valve. Wondering if the sound and the faulty control valve are just coincidental or if the valve might make that noise when it fails? And if not the valve, what the sound might be?
View 19 RepliesA few months ago, my car started making a loud whining/buzzing sound when I started it. The sound is distinctly coming through the speakers in the car, but turning the radio volume knob doesn't make it quieter or louder (though turning the radio completely off makes the sound stop). The sound persists until the car warms up, then the buzzing sound slowly fades away, and the voice/song on the radio slowly comes back until the buzzing sound is completely gone.
I recently took my car to a mechanic to have the timing belt and head gasket replaced, and the mechanic couldn't figure out what the problem was. What could be the root of this problem? 2006 Subaru Impreza 2.5 ...
My left headlight has been going off periodically, so to confirm that it's the bulb, tonight I switched the bulbs from left to right/right to left.
The job went very smoothly. It took me about 20 minutes, but I took my time. I buttoned everything back up and turned on the lights. Both sides came on, but I immediately noticed a very loud buzzing/whining sound coming from both headlamps. It is very loud and I know I would have noticed it before at some point over the course of the last three years that I've owned the car. Obviously, this is not normal, but I can't for the life of me figure out what I could have done wrong, if anything.
The prius I bought with 200+ K buzzes so loud especially on the freeway. There are no engine lights on and it drives great aside from the sound.
View 3 RepliesI've been having an electrical issue for the past few months that I've decided to address now that the weather is getting a little warmer.
What happened is the left turn signal was blinking fast, so I assumed bad bulb, and later that day it stopped blinking fast and now I press the lever down to indicate a left turn and there is a quite loud buzzing sound. Sounds like it's coming from where the relays are, but I've replaced them and the bulbs and still nothing has changed.
I've also replaced the multifunction switch to see if that was an issue, but a new one did the same thing so I returned it.
Running lights work all around, but now there are no left blinkers, and also my left brake light doesn't come on. Pulling a trailer I have the same problem, I had the plug tested and only 3 of the pins have anything to them.
I know nothing about auto electrical systems.
On a recent road trip, my 2009 Prius began making a loud dragging sound. Pulled into a car dealer at the freeway exit (Mazda) and found the black plastic shield on the front bumper had cracked down the middle and was dragging. I had them remove it to finish my drive home; my question now is, what should be considered a fair price for having this replaced? Last fall, I had a minor accident and had to have body work done on the hood and front fender; should I have the body shop that I used check it out, or stick with the dealer? I'm wondering if the shield might have cracked in the accident and was overlooked. As a single 50-something female, I just want to know what a repair like this might run, so I don't get taken for a ride.

View 9 RepliesIt's been about 2 year almost. The shifter is difficult shifting from default position to Drive position. It's like there is some (plastic) obstacles on the way, right at the turning point. I have to force it to the drive position, and I hear the pretty loud clicking sound
Sometimes it also stuck in drive position (if I don't force it back), but will come back to default position in 10 seconds by itself. It is unlikely some external objects got into there I believe.
New to the prius world! I recently purchased a 06 prius with 185k. Gas engine needed to be replaced so I recently replaced it. Had code of engine failed to start. Now got replacement engine in and has p0300 and p0303 and p0304. Weird thing is new plugs. Swapped coils and injectors with same results. To me it sounds like a racket in the transmission. The noise is not consistent at all. Very loud and odd. Also inside the car when I put it in drive or neutral a warning light comes up and says shift to park batteries wont charge while in neutral.
View 17 Repliesi started my '04 prius (~110k miles) this morning, went back into the house to grab a few things, & then I started hearing a loud rattling sound from the engine for a few seconds before the engine died.
The dash and MFD lite up with these symbols in the attached images.
I have had no issues with this car of 120K miles until today, although my MPG has decreased to 35 MPG. The following lights came on with a loud beeping sound : Brake warning lights, malfunction indicator light, master warning light and the hybrid system warning light. These stayed on for 25 minutes and then went off. I drove 12 miles without any issues with all the lights and sounds beeping.

View 13 RepliesI Bought a 09 with 45k miles. I haven't had no issues till my return Trip from the snow, this car is perfect for all the traffic i deal with out here. I normally have my music up loud so i may have never notice it but when I was driving with baby sleeping I started hearing a buzzing sound happen when I braked. This sound was low at the start but now is very noticeable.
View 2 RepliesI had a clutch replacement done on my 2004 Honda CRV EX at a local shop. The replacement was taking longer than anticipated because of rust accumulation. After I was told the replacement was near completed I received a phone call that there was a buzzing sound coming from the transmission that warranted taking out the transmission a second time to investigate the internal components and potential rebuild. Prior to the replacement being done I have never heard this sound and was told my the tow truck driver he hadn't heard the sound either.
I had another transmission specialist look at the vehicle and he pointed out that the gear fluid was near empty, and that there were fresh welds directly above the point where the buzzing sound was loudest. He concluded they may have dropped the transmission or potentially dropped something within the transmission while making a weld.Three separate transmission specialists have said it is very likely the result of the clutch replacement, and potentially the pilot or throw out bearings. How I should approach this issue as I have already invested $1500 in labor and clutch replacement and would like to avoid breaking the bank.
My car had been sitting in the garage for over 5 hours after short drive this morning. I went into the garage ( without the FOB ) and heard a strange buzzing sound. After walking around I determined it was coming from underneath the rear of the prius. I opened a couple of doors and the hatch and the sound was definitely exterior not interior and continuous.
I don't know how long this had been going on but it was continuous for at least four minutes. I thought the best thing to do would be to take the car for a short spin. I went inside the house to get the FOB and returned to the garage - the noise was still there? I approached the right rear bumper to get a better listen and it stopped suddenly. I guess the difference was the proximity of the FOB?
