Prius (2004-09) :: Left Headlight Will Frequently Go Out While Driving
May 18, 2014
I have a 2009 prius with 85k miles on it, bought it two weeks ago, right off the bat I noticed that the left headlight, while driving, will frequently go out. It comes back on when I turn the headlights off and on again, and goes out again later. Sometimes it stays on, other times it goes right out. I took the headlamp off, disconnected all wires, and cleaned it of any corrosion that was found and reconnected it, and the light still went out. What would be causing this/ what a fix is non mechanic oriented?

Worth mentioning that I've noticed condensation build up on the inside of the headlamp occasionally, and one time both lights flickered and then went out, but that hasn't happened since.

I am not sure if I should be worried but I noticed that my left headlight and my right left tail light have both gone at about the same time.

My Santa Fe 2004 V6 2.7L 97K recently downshifts and revs up while I'm driving. It happened about a week ago once or twice. I thought I was stepping on the gas too aggressively. But last 2-3 days it came back and more frequently to a point that I'm afraid to take it to the highway.
I checked the transmission oil, it looks pink and full. What problem am I potentially looking at? Would it be cheap to fix? Do Hyundai dealers cover it under the 10-year/100K mile warranty thing?

I have a 2006 GS 430.
Absolutely love the car, however I do have a new issue with my headlights. Pretty much every time I drive at night, the headlights will both come on and then one will go off at some point. They almost always both come on, and then usually the left will go out while driving.
It doesn't happen necessarily immediately. Sometimes 2-3 minutes later, sometimes 20 min, sometimes they work fine. I took it to a local shop and they said the whole assembly needs to be replaced on each side. (Parts alone $1200/each side) and apparently the bumper needs to come off. Seems a little ridiculous to me.

So my left headlight will randomly turn off while I am driving. If i turn off the lights and turn them back on its comes back on. Sometimes I have to do this a few times in order for it to work. What are possible issues that I could be having. Right now I am thinking it could be the ballast or the fuses. If the bulb had gone out it shouldn't be turning on at all right?

Drove ~1500 miles this week, from MN to MA. While driving through PA my left headlight died in the middle of the night while raining. I ended up fixing it after spending an hour at a gas pump for shelter. Also in PA I randomly stopped.

I understand the engine turns on and off frequently (coming to a stop it turns off, then when going it turns on). I have noticed that sometimes when at the stop it will turn off, then immediately back on, and off again, even with my foot on the break.

Purchased one owner Prius from Honda dealer May 2014 with 92000 miles. Now 2 months later 94000. Both service departments of Honda and a Toyota dealer said my car handles normally for a Prius. The car dips from left to right while driving at slow and highway speeds. It feels like a boat moving through water. The suspension was said to be good.Driving it feels unstable, like a Montero Sport or a stage coach. I wanted to do a lot of driving this summer, but this feels so uncomfortable.

While I am driving my left headlight keeps turning off and to turn it back on I just have to flip the lights off then on again. I have a 2005 Prius with 160k miles. What part of my car is potentially broken and whether it is a feasible DIY project or not.

I have a 2004 Prius with about 50K miles. It is driven every day. I recently noticed that the motor doesn't shut off as frequently as it used to when I stop at a light. It then also shows the battery as almost empty (1 bar) on the touch screen. Gas mileage also seems to be a little lower than it used to be. Other than that the car drives fine. Could this be an indication of the battery starting to go?

During the last week, or slightly less I suddenly started hearing the brake boost pump running much more frequently than normal in my 2008 and is also producing a "knocking" noise along with its run noise which increases in frequency as the pump speed increases. No problems with the engine coolant pump for the thermos, and the inverter pump was replaced yesterday along with a replaced "bolt" in the steering column for the recall.

I have a 2004 Acura TL which has been in pretty good shape up until recently.
The left headlight started working on and off spontaneously. I also have noticed that the rear power door locks have been very "sluggish." Meaning they sound like they are just not powerful enough to unlock the door and often take about 5 or more cycles of lock/unlock to finally work.
I took it to the Acura dealer to take a look at the headlight, and they ran the diagnostic kit and said it looked like I had a faulty headlight electrical setup. They said the bulb, igniter, and ballast, and even the car battery were bad and needed to be replaced.
My question is did the faulty battery cause this? And could my USB cigarette lighter adapter for my phone charger cause a drain on my battery to wear it down? The charger doesn't seem to use any electricity unless the phone is plugged in and the car running (a light comes on). Or anything else you can think of?
The lesson I've learned for my next car is to get one with normal headlights and normal size rims. (the 17" tires are annoyingly expensive!)

For a little over a month now, the front left turn signal has gone out at least once a week. I have been continuing to buy new bulbs for it, and it would run for a few days, then quit on me again. Just today, it happened again, I replaced the bulb, but this time it still isn't working. Ive tried clearing some of the crud off of the inside of the socket, but nothing seems to be working, and now im down a turn signal.

I just bought a new 2010 Prius IV and noticed after a good rain that the front left headlight assembly was showing some moisture fogging inside the lens. None of the other light assemblies showed any moisture.

If you drive less than 6000 or maybe even less than 3000 miles a year, how often should one change the oil on the car? Or don't bother with time interval but mileage as recommended for the make and model? I'm not sure there's a recommendation for time on the make & model, I'll check sometime.
Car in question is a Hyundai Accent 2009

I just bought a 2001 elantra. The car frequently will jerk or stutter while driving like the gas is bad or it is starved for something. When the stutter problem happens while driving the check engine light flashes but does not stay on. It usually only stutter 1 time but has as much as 3. The other day when I was in a drive thru waiting to order the car kinda sputtered during an idle then shut off the check engine light did not flash at this time. It restarted fine after that.
I pulled the codes and read them and I have 2. I am not sure if they are related to this problem. They were U0D00 and P0705. For the P0705 I cleaned the terminal but did not pull the negative on the battery the reset the computer. I reset the codes and the problem still is happening but no new codes are present. The code P0705 has not returned since.

06 Elantra Limited, 96,xxx miles. When I'm idling at a light or something, the Rpms drop for a split second, almost to the point of stalling, but recovers. Happens in a split second. Does the same thing even when driving, but does it more frequently when idling. It even does that when I first put my foot on the throttle to accelerate from a red light.
I've cleaned the throttle body but it still does it. I've taken it to 3auto parts stores. One said that battery was bad. The other said the battery is fine but alternator is producing low. The last said both are fine.

04 Camry XLE, 63k miles. Since we bought this car, it has pulled to the left. I've taken it to two shops I trust and they showed me the report showing that the alignment is correct. This leads me to believe there is a worn joint somewhere that allows the front wheels to aim a bit left when driving. Where would be a good place to start troubleshooting?
Background: So far, I've called Toyota to verify that our car is up to speed on all TSB's and it is.
I've put my hand over the intermediate steering shaft upper joint while my wife moves the wheel side to side. There is some play there, but not much. I'm not sure how much there should be.
