The issue is, when driving at low speeds, especially after coming to a stop, I hear this intermittent knock that comes from the rear of the vehicle. I am not sure if it is coming from the outside or inside, but it really sounds like it is coming from the chassis.
View 13 RepliesI had to replace 2 tires on my Camry recently and Discount Tire put the new tires in the back and the old tires in the front. After all was done, I drove off and there was a knocking noise coming from the passenger rear.
The front steel wheel was pretty beat up so it was making the steering wheel shake. Discount put that wheel in the back. They had recommended replacing the wheel. I picked up a new one from a pick and pull and its still making the knocking sound.
I went through the car's interior to try and eliminate anything rattling around making the noise. Checked the trunk and there was nothing that I could think it would be.
It knocks at low speeds from 5 mph all the way up to 40 mph. But once I get to 50 and over on the highway the sound goes completely away. The car does not ride rough or shakes when the sound is present.
This morning when I heard some knocking from the ICE and found NO oil on the dipstick. You wouldn't BELIEVE the drive the car did the day before when I lent it to my sister-in-law). Anyway, I thought the red triangle would illuminate with low oil. I can't seem to get the light to illuminate. Even when I first start the car and "all" indicators light up during the test. I'd say this is one important light. We've had the car less than a month and I could swear that when we first got it I saw the triangle at start up.
View 5 RepliesI was driving the other day, and all of a sudden it started with this horrible knocking sound. I have never heard the sound before. I remember back in the day, with a 67 buick rivera, that if the oil got low, the engine would knock, and this kind of sounded the same, but more high pitched and clicky. I checked the oil first thing and there is plenty in there - in fact, I had just checked and put oil in it about two weeks before.
I have not always kept up with the oil changes, and sometimes the oil level was pretty low. My sons tell me that the sound seems to be coming from the top of the engine, and it's probably toast, a rod knock. I parked it, and figured i will get it looked at in a few months, when I'm better able to pay for diagnostics.
When i brake completely when im at a red light my 2007 prius makes a knocking/clunking sorta sound... What could this be?

View 1 RepliesI got new 2010 golf almost a month ago. And I drove just over 1000k so far. Couple of days ago i noticed that sometimes (very randomly) when i stop some knocking sound starts coming from rear (i think somewhere around passenger side). As i stand at alight and the sound comes on, the sound disappears if i take my foot off the breaks and then appears again if i push the brakes. The sound usually goes away in about a minute. Again, the sound is quite random so I'm not able to reproduce it.

View 6 RepliesI hadn't driven my new GTI (DSG w/PP) for the last month. It was regularly started but not driven. Took it out today and noticed a knocking sound coming from the rear that could be heard every tire revolution. Distinct sound, not metal to metal as if a caliper had hung up. Noise in forward only not reverse. Nothing interfering with tire revolution. Needless I'm not driving until I get it checked out. What it could be?

View 1 RepliesFor the last year or so i have been annoyed severely by a clunking knocking sound from the rear (possibly passenger side) of the car. The noise occurs when there is torsion occurring or a sudden change of direction. I can go over a huge speed bump or pothole and not hear a thing yet the slightest change in direction or torsion will cause this extremely annoying heavy metal clunking knocking sound. I tightened every suspension system related screw in the rear of the car and the noise is still present.
The car is lowered on H&R springs (approx. 1.4 drop) so im wondering if maybe there is an additional stress that has been torturing the sway bar links for the last 3 years causing this noise. Or could it be the shocks (which are working properly)?
2006 Sonata 2.4 GLS. My car has done 60000 miles and has developed a creaking/knocking (metal on metal clunk) sound at the left rear. it is only noticeable at low speeds when accelerating and decelerating in stop start traffic.
It is not the shock as I have removed the shock and driven the car and the noise is still there, I have also looked at all the bushes and nothing is obvious. I have also checked tightness of all bolts/nuts.
My 98 lumina seems to make a knocking/bouncing sound in the right rear wheel well when I brake. It never happens when I'm braking driving in the city (25 mph or so) but it happens when I'm closer to 40mph and up.
I thought it might've been a drum brake issue but I just had the brakes serviced about two or three weeks ago. It still does it. This isn't a new issue. It's something that's been going on for years.
Just became the proud owner of a used 2011 F-250 Supercab, 6.2L. Overall the truck is great but it does have a-few things that need fixing, the most annoying of which is a knocking sound from the rear passenger side cab corner. Sounds like the exhaust vibrating and smacking up against the floorboard but that's not it. Everything seems tight, even the front suspension.
The only thing I can see that may be the cause is the rear passenger cab mount seems worn. I can rotate the bottom rubber portion without too much effort and when I feel for the top rubber portion all I feel is the metal cup on the top, like the rubber has collapsed and the metal cup is sitting directly on the frame mount.
So... how many cab mounts there are for the Supercab? I think there are two on each side and two in the front. All of the information & videos I've seen describe the locations for the crew cab. Also, is it possible to replace the cab mounts and not have to mess with the ones in the front? I hear those are the real buggers.
I had a toyota prius gen 3 last year where it had an engine knocking sound, where I tried every TSB and changed the spark plugs, spark plug cables, intake manifold, engine knots..... etc., nothing worked except the following video which solved the knocking completely with no return.
View 12 RepliesWhen I start my 2012 prius the noise scared me. The motor shook an inch and a half first tow found nothing. It did it again drove it in nothing found could not duplicate. Third time towed and again nothing found. "It is safe to drive we can find nothing wrong". After asking for a manager and inquiring about lemon status I was given a car to drive. The service rep said a manifold would be in in about a month but the mechanic supervisor said there is no eta and we are working on it.
A week later they call the manifold was replaced and they finally duplicated the issue in one of the other three cars there with same complaint. I was getting 50 mpg until this started when I took it in I was getting 46mpg. Now after the first 300 miles since I got it back I'm getting 43.5mpg.
My car is a 2004 Hyundai Sonata with 260,000 miles. Regularly maintained and has been an excellent car. However, a few days ago, while driving it with the heater on, the car begins to smell hot,both inside and outside the car. My husband has checked the oil, battery, and coolant levels...everything appears normal yet when I tried to start it one day, the car made a loud knocking sound under the hood, battery light came on and the car never started.
View 14 RepliesI am noticing a sort of clunk or knocking noise from under the hood when I hit the brakes. I thought it might be the pads, but it comes from under the hood .It only makes the sound on the first touch of the brake, once you have your foot on the pedal it stops the noise. It does this every time on the first application of the pedal. Is this sound normal? I don't recall hearing it when I test drove the car, maybe it's been there all along and I am just now making note of it.

View 4 RepliesI told them that my car sometimes when I accelerate a knocking or rattling sound comes from underneath the hood. I asked them to check it. I told him it sounded exactly like an older car I had many years ago which was the result of bad gas or too low octane.
With my older car I added higher octane gas (89) and the sound went away. I had a 2011 Prius before and never had this problem and I get gas at the same gas station for years.
So the mechanic test drove my car and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. So I'm stuck with the annoying rattling/knocking noise when I accelerate (which happens about half the time), but now I'm experiencing another problem.
A couple days later I drove to get dinner. One way it is about 7 miles. Almost the whole way the ICE would not turn off. I would be at stop light, wouldn't turn off. I pulse and glided, when I glided the ICE remained on. Take my foot off the gas at slow speeds, ICE still on.
Finally towards the last 1 or 2 miles it started going into EV when i let the foot off the gas. On the way back it ran normal. It's been close to a week now since I brought it in for service and I only had trouble one other time.
