What the heat losses are approximately kwh from the transmission and inverter are. I understand this will vary with speed and driving conditions but reasonable estimate will do.
View 3 RepliesMy original intention was to replace the engine oil in the car. I was in a hurry(yes....I know) I could not find the oil drain plug. I did find a large bolt which turned out to be a drain plug for the inverter coolant instead. The instant the fluid drained from the car, I knew it was not engine oil. I did not know the drained fluid was inverter coolant. It had the color of a transmission fluid but significantly less viscous.
View 17 RepliesThere is only one thing I don't like about our new SF. The transmission shifts from 4th to 5th gear at approximately 60 km/hr (36 mph +/-) and the rpm's drop to 1500 rpm. Now, when I want to speed up a tad (which is a frequent occurrence when driving around town), there is a pronounced hesitation before it drops back into 4th gear and accelerates.
In 5th gear at 1500 revs, I find that the engine is 'lugging' a bit. Yesterday, I started to compensate for this by changing to manual shifting as soon as the trannie shifted into 4th gear and leaving it there when I was traveling in that 60 kph speed area. For me, this is MUCH better and I quite like doing some of the shifting any way since I spent so many years driving manual transmission equipped cars.
How have others found the car to be when driving around town? Other than that, I really enjoy this car. Easily the most comfortable seats of any car I've ever owned --- their design provides terrific lumbar support and the new cloth material has a great 'feel' to it.
So, the sideways coolant tank in the engine compartment, not the one next to the grill, but the one that is sort of between the air filter box and that shiny metal square
I have always thought that tank was slightly low, but it has a seam just about where the full line is, so I was never sure....finally about three weeks ago, I worked up my courage and put a few ounces of coolant in that tank. THEN it was up to the full line.
So, a few weeks after adding the coolant, I had the water pump recall done. Now the coolant level is back down to where it was before I added....so I am assuming that the correct level is just below that seam that seals the top of the plastic tank to the bottom part of the tank.
I am getting a slow coolant drip from my inverter . The very slow leak appears on the left side of inverter when facing the front of car with hood open . The connection point alum tube to coolant resevoir black rubber tube. The inverter coolant connection reservoir tube side is damp to the touch and has visible red goop buildup.......

View 2 RepliesI have a big red triangle on the pump is making noises not loud noises sounds like it's operating correctly there is no turbulence in reservoir and when I squeeze the hose the level in the reservoir goes up-and-down which leads me to believe there is no blockage in the pipe coming out of out of the pump.
My handheld scanner and torque on my android tablet only gave me my oxygen sensor code which I know about and I'm going to replace when the weather gets hot I am wondering if the coolant pump would throw a code that these devices would be able to pick up or do I need to go to the dealer or find a shop which is capable of reading the HYbrid codes?

View 2 RepliesI have a 2004 Toyota Prius with 150k miles. Yes, 150k miles ... Anyhow it basically stopped working and the dealer said its probably the inverter that's throwing the code. Does the 2004 inverter is replaceable by all Gen II inverters? The dealer says 2004-2005 is different than 2006+ but eBay sellers don't think so. Can I run any 2004-2009 Prius inverter in my 2004?

View 8 RepliesMy 2008 Prius wouldn't start a couple of days a go. Took it to the dealership. The tech said he got the code reset, but couldn't get it to fail again. It is clear for now, but his experience tells him it will fail again, possibly in a few months. The code said the Hybrid Inverter was bad. Thy hybrid warranty ran out 2 months ago. I have only 67,000 miles on the car. It has been trouble free up to this point. This still means I would need to pay for a part that shouldn't fail, and was in warranty just 2 months ago (8 year/100,000) with only 67,000 miles on the car. What should I do? Wait to see if it fails again?
View 10 RepliesI recently had the inverter pump replaced under recall. it now makes a the pump noise even when I am driving. I hear it when car is not fully warmed. Back when it had the original inverter pump, it only made noise at startup and shut off.

View 15 RepliesMy car was making a weird grinding noise when braking above 7mph. I did the neutral brake thing and seems to go away sometimes. The dealership said it needed new rotors and brakes, so I went ahead and did that with them, then called me to let me know the sound did not go away. Now they are stating my grinding noise is coming from the "inverter generator" which is what they said was the transmission. I am just curious why this goes away sometimes and if it's related to my previous issues with the car.
View 1 RepliesI posted a few months that after replacing my inverter coolant that the drain plug leaked. I tried to tighten it but that did not work. New Aluminum washer was installed. I took it in about 1 month ago for the steering shaft and inverter coolant pump replacement. After they drained the system and refilled post inverter pump replacement It still leaks.
View 3 RepliesMy 07 Prius is leaking transaxel fluid into the inverter cooling system. Transaxel fluid is sweating through the inverter coolant hoses. Before my taking ownership of this vehicle, it had previously been in a front end collision (that’s a whole other story). Anyhow – if I replace the radiator, should that take care of this problem? Are there any other ways these two cooling fluids could become cross contaminated?
View 16 RepliesMy 2005 died in the middle of the road a few days go. Was just rolling along fine then suddenly out of a stop light, the car stalled and would no longer go back into P, D, or R while the battery still seemed to be working. So had it towed to the dealership to be checked.

View 14 RepliesMy 2007 Prius with 162k miles had an Inverter Coolant Pump Failure Monday 6.5 hours from home when my wife was driving it home from a trip. Red Triangle, (!), vsc, and check engine light. She was able to make it about 20 minutes to a dealer where it was diagnosed. Luckily no further damage was done to vehicle. Yes, she should have stopped but continued on since car was driving OK.
