After a couple years of people claiming my headlights were out and them working fine when I checked, I finally noticed it wink out intermittently. By now, it's out within minutes of turning it on, though it turns back on when I flip the lights on and off.
This seems like the infamous HID headlight issue. I got notice of a lawsuit a few months back, but I hadn't made any repairs at that time. Is it just too late now?
I have a 2005 Toyota Prius with HID headlights. One of the headlights intermittently went out and I decided to replace both headlights. I installed Philips DR2 headlights. I successfully installed the passenger-side headlight and checked it and it worked well.
I then proceeded to install the driver side headlight and realize that I installed it upside down. I adjusted the headlight but forgot to plug the receptacle back in before checking the headlight. When I turned on the headlights I heard a sparking sound. Now the passenger-side headlight will not turn on, but the driver side headlight does work. I tried to replace the passenger-side headlight with a new bulb but it still will not work. I also checked all the fuses, but they seem to be okay.
I have a 2007 Prius and my driver's side headlight is out. From what I've read, the HID lights are difficult to replace. How do I tell what kind of headlight I have? I want to make sure I am getting the correct replacement bulb.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2008 Touring with the HID headlights and auto leveling which appears to be standard. My issue is that the passenger side mainly, although it does happen to the driver side sometimes, will go out. I have replaced both bulbs which did not solve the problem. I have noticed that it seems to be exacerbated by the auto leveling mechanism. For instance when I accelerate past quarter throttle or go up a hill, that's when the passenger side one decides to turn off. I can turn the headlights on and off and that will reengage the headlights, but when I get to a situation where I'm accelerating or going up the hill the passenger side headlight will go out. 90 percent of the time it happens to the passenger side, although I've seen it happen to the driver side. I'm convinced that it is induced by the auto leveling feature.
View 6 Replies2005 GC. My headlights work some of the time. All all other lights work fine. Turning the switch on and off repeatedly sometimes get the lights on but sometime I just have to wait/drive abit before they come on. They also do not shut off automatically after the alotted time.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2004 Prius with 191K miles. When purchased in November of 2008 the 12V battery was replaced (mileage at the time was 70K). Over the last 2 weeks my alarm has been going off daytime, nightime with no regularity.
I have replaced the battery in the FOB (I only have one) and did this yesterday. Last night the alarm went off 4 times between 11pm and 1am until I disconnected the 12V battery.
I just received my Scangauge II. Hooked it up and while under ice throttle it stays on but when I either attemp pulse and glide or straight stealth mode it shuts off? I am in process of reading instructions
View 9 Replies2004 Prius. Sometimes, quite randomly, the headlights will turn off. Sometimes its both, sometimes its the left only, and sometimes its the right only. This affects both main and high beams. The dash lights and tail lights may still be on (panicking doesn't give me time to confirm that), but for sure the Nav panel is still lit.
The first time this happened was when I was driving on a mountain road at night in the rain. It now happens almost every night and I have confirmed that it also happens in daytime. Road conditions (bumpy/smooth, wet/dry, dark/well lit) do not seem to be a factor.
At least once while still in my garage, when I started the car the left light was out. I can get the lights to turn back on by turning them off all the way and then back on. Nothing else works. I have replaced the relay for the lights - that didn't change anything.
I have a 2007 package 5 and one of my headlights occasionally flickers and goes out, but if I turn the headlights off then on it comes back on for a bit til it turns off again. I just got this car used, and I am wondering if this is normally how these lights act at the end of their lifespan or do they just burn out for good like a regular lightbulb.

So after pulling into the driveway, I went out and slapped both headlights, they both came on. Sounds like I need to maybe check connections, clean, lube, etc. The car has 150 k on it.

View 1 RepliesI just recently had the hybrid battery replaced in the my 06 Prius. Probably about 2 years ago I had my right headlight replaced because it kept going out. Well now my headlight is back to going out again. However no it's no longer just the right headlight. It can be either. It doesn't seem to matter if it's smooth road or bumpy. Seems to do it alittle worse on really cold days but it's also done it on a couple 40 degree days we had recently.
The left headlight has a habit of flickering alot. Some times it'll stop and stay on, other time's it'll flicker and then go out. When the right headlight goes out, it doesn't flicker, it just goes out. If I turn the lights off and right back on, both headlights come on. They may stay on rest of way to work after that or they may stay on 5 minutes. It is something I can check via navigation console? Is my only option to take it to a Toyota dealer?
My dash lights have a weird glitch when the headlights are on. I can hear a click and the dash lights will go out and immediately back on almost like a blink.
View 13 RepliesThe low beam headlights on my 2007 Pontiac Torrent have been working intermittently for several months. Sometimes they will automatically turn on like they are supposed to, other times they will not and I will try to manually turn them on- sometimes it works, other times I have to use the high beams. I had the lever replaced, but it did not fix the problem. My boyfriend tried to track down the problem and removed the fuse panel completely from the car, didn't see anything that stood out, so he put the right back. After he put it back, the car would not start.
The radio works, the interior lights work, but when you try to turn it over nothing happens. At all. I towed it to the mechanic a week ago on Monday and they said that it smelled like burnt electrical under the hood, but could not pinpoint the problem. They have now had my car for a week and the latest update they have given me was the car will not communicate with their testing equipment, so they think it is the computer, but they are not sure. They said that they are trying to find a replacement computer.
Does this sound like a computer problem? And if so, should it have taken them an entire week to try to diagnose? I am trying to be patient, but it feels like a week is a long time to have a car in the shop and I am still without a definite diagnosis or any estimation on how much it is going to cost to fix my car. Should I try to take it somewhere else?
2006 Chrysler 300 Limited. Very strange issue here. If the ignition key is turned on, and the headlight switch in ANY position (auto, off, parking, or on) the headlights and fog lights turn off and on on their own! No rhyme or reason to it. At first if the headlight switch was in the "auto" position, it wouldn't give me a problem. Now I can't shut the headlights off, the foglights off, or "flick" the high beams on by pulling the "multi-function" switch back. Long story short, i think the actual headlight switch might be faulty, but the multi-function switch not making the headlights do anything is what is making me second guess this issue. Where else I should look? Fuses are all fine.
View 15 Replies2006 Prius with 58,000 miles. Drive in San Diego and Palm Springs. Earlier this year, the A/C would just cut off, maybe about once a week. The control panel indicated the A/C should be on, but absolutely no function. Drive around for 20 minutes, and all of a sudden, it would come on and work perfectly. It is starting to happen on a daily basis now...sometimes it won't work from start, other times it just cuts out while driving. I can park the car and shut the car off with the A/C working, then come back 30 minutes, and no A/C. It doesn't seem to matter which setting is selected. The control panel accepts all commands, but no function changes when the A/C has shut itself off. Loose connection somewhere? It works about 90% of the time, and blows very cold. When it shuts itself off, no air passes through the vents at all.
View 6 RepliesI just started getting 3 dash lights that come and go intermittently? ( I'm getting a (!), ABS and VSC lights in amber). I first had these three come on while I was traveling home one evening (traveling a little too fast /approx 84mph). This 2007 Prius has 276,000 miles on her. The lights will come on, them go out once I stop for a short period of time, or slow-down and travel at 40-50 mph.
I've checked the 12V battery and its seem to meet at the recommended voltages. I did have a recall on the inverter water pump around 150K. With that said, the pump does have circulation when I remove the cap? Over the 6+ years that I've owned this car, I've only changed the oil (synthetic), replaced tires, changed a water pump/alternator belt and a second set of replacement front brake pads. This has been the BEST car (maintenance and economy-wise) that I've ever owned! She's still consistently getting 48.2mpg. I've ordered the OBD pigtail and diagnostic software....
Our Prius has a funny quirk, one that we can live with because it only does it occasionally, but is still quite annoying when it happens. Sometimes, when the car is started, it does not turn on the electronics correctly. Most of the stuff still works, like the radio, GPS, etc. But when it does this, the only light that shows on the console is the check engine light (which is on for some coolant sensor that we don't need to fix right now) is the only thing lit. Nothing else, including the gas gauge and odo and MPH gauge, lights up. On the Consumption screen, it also does not register miles driven, avg MPG, and does not track anything. The energy screen works fine, although it does not show current MPG, as if it doesn't really know the car's all the way on.
Only totally random stuff makes it stop, such as driving a short distance, turning the lights on, entering maintenance mode, or restarting it. (This problem usually prevents the car from shutting down, also, which can be quite annoying.) Fortunately this doesn't seem to affect the car negatively in any was other than not knowing how fast you're going. Dealer didn't pick anything out reading codes, and it doesn't do it all the time (although short starts, such as turning on to roll down windows, usually seem to cause it.)
Two days ago the first sign of a problem was the AC going out, followed by the red warning triangle and check engine lights coming on about 10 minutes later. Checked coolant and topped oil off (it is due for an oil change, btw) and drove about 20 miles home, no problems despite warning lights. Even the AC started working again. A little while after getting home, I started it up......no warning lights. I thought all was good.
Yesterday, no issues. Didn't drive more than about 15 miles though.
Today, took roughly a 25 mile roundtrip with no problems. Made the exact same roundtrip about 2 hours later and the red warning, VSC, brake system and check engine lights all came on (see pic) about 10 miles into the trip. I immediately turned AC off to remove that stress. No changes in car's behavior, however. Made it back home, turned car off and waited about 20 minutes. Turned it back on and only the red warning and check engine lights came on. 2 hours later....same two lights are still on.
I have a 2004 Gen II that blows the A/C(Htr) 10 amp fuse. The dealer changed the inverter and replaced the fuse with a 15 amps which masked the problem. I have looked at the items that this feeds and have eliminated the: inverter (Dealer knows very little, Scary), A/C Control assembly, heater water pump assembly. I thought that since the Heater water pump assembly runs intermittently it might be that. Or could it be the diode in the relay that controls it? I cannot seem to find where it is located..
