I have problem with my headlight when I turn on during I'm driving it work perfectly for a while and the headlight on the right hand side turn off by its self , but when I turn off all light and turn on again it work fine and it happens continually...
View 4 RepliesA couple weeks ago I noticed the passenger side headlight would turn off almost immediately after I turned it on. After a couple hours of swearing at it/trying to twist it out, I finally pull the bulb and socket out of the metal retaining clips in one piece. I had to use a couple channel locks to get the bulb to twist out of the socket, and when I finally did I saw the socket and bulb were very toasty.
I cleaned up the socket, replaced both bulbs, and everything seems to be working fine so far, knock on wood. Any example of this kind of arcing between the bulb/socket? If this is a one-time thing, great, but I'm wondering if it's symptomatic or problems someplace else.
My 2006 Prius (Model NHW20) has a strange headlight problem. On the passenger side, the high beam light is out but the regular headlight works.
On the driver side, the high beam is working but the regular headlight is out.
I don't think it's the fuses but I'm not sure. No amount of interchanging the following fuses changes anything about the issue:
1. 10A H-LP HI RH
2. 10A H-LP HI LH
3. 15A H-LP LO RH
4. 15A H-LP LO LH
I have a 2009 Prius with about 36,500 miles on it. I dropped a friend off at the airport tonight and noticed in the reflection of the car in front of me that my right headlight was out -- a fact my friend confirmed when he got out of the car.
View 8 RepliesThe passenger side headlight of my fiance's 2007 Prius keeps going out intermittently. It's a touring model with HID's. I replaced the bulb already and the problem persists. I searched and found that there is a TSB about it [URL]...................... It sounds like it's either the bulb (which I replaced), the wiring, or the HID ECU.

I bought it... took a quick look and couldn't see how to get to it - so I put it away for the night...Now I see on here there is some sort of "bulb issue" with Toyota?
2008 Prius... The right side main head lamp sometimes does not come on when I switch on the lights, this started happening about 10 days ago, rarely at first, about 50% of the time now.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2008 Prius pkg 6, passenger side headlight goes out, and then later comes back on. Went to parts store and they sold me a lamp to replace it with. Not only do I not know how to replace it, I do not know whether it is a Halogen or HID lamp?
View 10 RepliesFor the last 5 days my passenger headlight has been out so i switched on the brights to other drivers dismay because the brights worked it seemed, shortly after my drive home they went out too. So my drivers side is working fine, turn signals working fine.
(FYI these are not HID Headlights they are base model regular headlights)
Today i spent a painful 20 minutes taking out the bulb and replacing it, showed light wear but didn't seem burned out (i replaced it anyways) PS i made sure not to touch the bulb to my skin as that usually results in a burn out.
The one thing i did notice was the wire connector that goes over the 3 prongs from the bulb itself was a little worn out and had some black around the edges.
Here is the story, My HID headlights at 45k miles started to flicker and within seconds turn off. My only solution was to turn the lights on/off but the problem would constantly reoccur.
After calling the dealership and speaking to the morons there, I decided to replace the bulbs myself. I successfully replaced both hid headlight bulbs and the bulbs seemed to work perfectly. Sadly, the next day I realized that bulbs would still go out, sometimes the left side, sometimes the right side, sometimes both sides.
This is common on priuses with hid headlights. The passenger light will randomly go out and will come back on if you turn the switch off and back on. Sometimes it'll go a while before it does it or other times 2 miles down the road you just never know. I called a Toyota dealer and he said it was probably the bulb itself and of course wanted 200 bucks to change it, but I'm not convinced that is it. I'm thinking it could be the ballast.
View 5 RepliesI was on the way home tonight and I noticed the driver side HID headlight turn off after putting my turn signal on.
I have LED DRL fog lights installed and they're wired with no relay and plugged into the Engine Compartment fuse box. The installer connected them on the left side (where the wires come in, from the two black components by the air filter).
Could this wiring setup be interfering with the HID's?
Recent purchase of new 2014 Prius v model 3. Less than 5,000 miles on odo. Transmission shifted into neutral on two occasions when making a right hand turn while going over a small depression (drainage swail). Of course Toyota recommends that I take it to their dealer for diagnosis but if they can't pull the code they will send me on my way. Going to go anyway but feel it is pointless.
View 15 RepliesRecently completed a six-hour drive and noticed right headlight--high and low beams--and right amber marker/signal light were off at night. Left or driver's side lights worked perfectly. Tried switching on and off and re-starting car with no different results. Parked car at home with intention of trying repair, next day. Next day, they were working fine! Fortunately, we were close to home when this happened and it has not happened, since. What happened to make these lights go out on one side and, one day later, come back? Would like to prevent from happening again.
View 1 RepliesI just replaced (or almost replaced) the bulb on the passenger side of my 2008 prius. It is a HID bulb. I got the old one out, the new one in and connected and verified it is working. Now trying to get the cover back on that provides the weather proofing and unless im wrong... the braided wire that connects to the back of the bulb is in the way. It looks like it has to go thru the opening that the cover is supposed to seal... Imagine a rope hanging over the edge of a bucket you are trying to put a cover on... Am i wrong here? did I miss something?
View 1 RepliesSome say the front drive shaft should turn by hand in 2h and some say it shouldn't.... I have an 06 FX4, with auto locking hubs (meaning if I want 4H i turn from 2H to 4H). I've been getting a terrible shake at 55mph (yes I've read the forums on that too, not my question) .
So I crawled underneath to look at rear driveshaft, u joints, etc..., and by chance I grabbed the front driveshaft to pull myself forward to check out everything else, and it didn't turn......
I twisted a little and the shafts going to both front wheels turned. Now shouldn't these turn freely in 2H?....The light to 4H never comes on when I switch it, but it is engaged (or else I'd never have gotten unstuck....several times)... Am I stuck in 4H and just didn't know? .
I am having the headlight problem on my 2006 prius (and have seen thousands of posts about it). The drivers side goes in and out and has done so for 6 months. But now the passenger side is doing the same and the 12 volt outlet fuse has blown. There are 133000 miles on it (nothing done to the vehicle except oil changes and new tires) Replacement bulbs from eBay are on the way. I have replaced the fuse and its ok now. I don't know if they are unrelated or if this a battery issue.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2006 Prius that I purchased with no upgrade on the headlights. There was an upgrade available for high intensity lights, but, I didn't get them. The low beam on the passenger side headlight just stopped working. Two questions:
1. I was just told by the Toyota dealership that to replace the headlight, the entire front end of the car would need to be dropped. They just told me that with them supplying the bulbs, the cost would be about $250 plus tax. If I supply the bulbs, only about $200 plus tax. My owners manual indicates that this is a do-it-yourself project. Is this true or is the dealership trying to make money off of me?
2. When I do replace the lights, I would like to put in something that would put out more light than what I have now. I have been told to be careful because many replacement lights throw off so much heat that the housing around the bulb could melt. Also, I have read that some of these replacement bulbs have a very short working lifetime of 1-2 years. Obviously, I would want to keep away from them.
My Driver's side headlight recently started 'switching itself off' - which I understand is a pretty common problem. I'd already had the Passenger side replace a couple of years ago - by the dealership. But this time I figured I'd do it myself.
View 2 RepliesI went test drove a R32 today and I noticed when the headlight switch is in the off position, the HID came on when I release the hand brake, is this normal? I thought the DRL suppose to be the inner two halogen lights not the HID. This way, having a switch is kinda pointless except to turn on/off the the instrumental lights because you have the HID on whenever you release the parking brake, doesn't matter if the switch is in the off position or the on/lowbeam position.

Here's the situation so far: Whenever I turned my headlights on, the driver's side bulb would turn off after 5 minutes.
Replaced both bulbs
Drivers side bulb stayed on for about 20 - 25 minutes at first then started going off after just a few minutes
Replaced ballast (new) on drivers side but same results as above where light stayed on for about 20 - 25 minutes at first then going off again after a few minutes. Each time light stayed on for a shorter period of time
Bought 2 more bulbs and replaced both again in case first set was bad. Same thing still happens and bulb tends to flicker at times.
I am at a loss as to why the drivers side light will not stay on after changing the ballast and the bulbs twice. Also, I've noticed that the drivers side bulb is noticeably dimmer than the passenger side bulb even though both bulbs are brand new.
What the problem might be? I'm at a loss now and not sure what to do next.
