so, i hit a deer that was already in the road dead, and it cracks my bumper in two spots, i got the insurance claim done but I'm wondering how to get out of it cheaper. the plastic engine guards under the front have come undone and are hanging down to where i scrape going over small bumps in the road.

I have a 2007 Prius, a replacement mirror, and the desire to fix it myself. I just do much better if I can visual the job at hand.
View 4 RepliesOver the past year I have had to replace 2 window regulators, a front motor mount, rear brake reline, new wheel engine bearing, a Plenum, and on top of all that the paint is peeling on the front bumper and the rear High Brake Lamp is cracked! Any connection between all these repairs or just my really, really bad luck?

View 7 RepliesI got my oil changed and was told my coolant reservior is cracked and leaking. I have been driving 4,000 miles since then and not known or noticed anything until informed today.
Is this a high priority fix? I'm not sure exactly what it is but my car hasn't showed any signs of overheating. Also what is an estimate of price for parts and labor?
I have a hairline crack (with some starring) on my left rear tail light of my 2006 Prius touring. Any good glue or compound to patch it up and prevent water/moisture/dirt from getting in there and still stay clear for light to shine through?
View 2 RepliesWhile swapping on my winter tires yesterday, I noticed the strut boot (I believe it's called) on the passenger side has a large crack, almost split in two. See picture attached.
The Prius is a 2006 with almost 370K KM (~231K miles), and I am hoping to keep the car for another 1-2 years, until the PIP2 is out.
Is this something to be concerned about? The strut is not leaking, and the suspension seems otherwise fine.
My car had a new bumper installed, and now they can't get it to start. When you hit the button to start, the red "immobilizer" anti-theft light blinks for a moment like the key is not in the car.
This is true even if the key is inserted into the dash. The remote key still can open and close/lock the doors just fine, so this is strange.
They did mention that they had to recharge the battery for some reason. I don't know why the battery had died for them, but it is charged now. (Headlights, etc work fine).
I recently got a magnetic bumper sticker. To my surprise there seems to be no place that it will stick to on the back of the Prius. I don't really want to put a real sticker on.
View 1 RepliesI was recently in a fender bender where I was rear ended. My rear bumper cover became detached on the left side and the spoiler underneath it (left side and center parts) became detached. I lost several pieces of hardware in the crash. I was able to clip the bumper cover back in on the left side, and aside from that, I don't believe any bolts, screws, etc. are missing for the bumper cover. However, the spoiler seems to be missing about half of its hardware.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2005 Prius. I came home the other day and parked the car in the garage. I came back out the next morning to find a large puddle of water in the garage and the car still dripping. The drip is from the PS front bumper area just ahead of the front PS wheel. This is not the typical AC water puddle; we have two Prius so I am familiar with that one. I searched here and found a few threads on water pump issue but the description did not quite match what I have going on.
View 7 RepliesAttached are a couple of photos. The first shows the strange black discoloration on the driver's side that is slowly growing to take over that entire corner of the bumper. Looking closely, it may be noted that some paint is missing below the (cracked) taillight. This paint is missing I believe from when we were rear ended in a hit and run while parked.

View 6 RepliesMore questions on OBD codes but I'm trying to understand my problem. The check engine light came on for a week and then off and then on etc.. I thought it was the gas cap or wet/loose wire on the 1st O2 sensor. Well, I went to advanced auto and they said P0141 I think (bank 1, sensor 2 after the cat convertor) and the right rear ABX wire/reader. He told me to clean the ABS sensor (it was filthy with dirt and I can see how it can't read) and I did the other rear and the front left one (it was different on the front than the back and was clean so I didn't do the right front). So, now the light is still on probably due to the O2 sensor. I intend to get a mechanic change out the sensor (denso at adv auto for 70 bucks plus labor) and reset the computer to see if the ABS sensor code comes again or it's fixed.
Why did the check engine light come on and off? I thought once on, it only goes off if it's a gas cap issue. Next, does the computer reset itself or will a mechanic have to reset it? Can the ABS switch be just dirty or do they die and it needs replacement? Why didn't the ABS light on the dash come on if the error code was for the ABS wire which will mess up the ABS system?

View 12 RepliesI'm a longtime reader & today I got a excellent reason to make a post - I was at ~20mph & had just went around a corner & tried to accelerate fairly briskly & the car just dies. Hybrid Failure iirc. I got out of traffic & pulled the codes (BT dongle already installed) Torque shows P0A94 Powertrain. I reset the code & power cycled the car but nothing changed. The traction battery still was showing 5-bars so I moved the vehicle <.1 mile to a safe location. Battery was still at 2-bars when I powered it down.

View 3 RepliesI just brought home a brand new 2011 Prius base model (it was the dealership's last one...their showroom model...=D)!
Unfortunately, I forgot that the hatchback door opens up REAL high and the spoiler kissed my garage door. Now there is this white mark and I was wondering if I can fix it at home? What is the difficulty level? I'm not really a handy-man so don't want to try to fix it and end up making it looking even worse (unless it's super easy to do).
The mark is not too too noticeable...it's about the size of a pencil tip. It just happens to be white so stands out slightly against the black.
Also, most important, will this small blemish get worse over time and cause the mark to get larger over time (I'm thinking of how a crack can propagate and eventually cause a failure...except this won't be as serious)?
I picked up my Prius III last month (love it) and noticed some hairline scratches in the black spoiler, but thought they might wax out as they are pretty faint (they didn't).
Looks like the dealer ran a gritty wash mitt or sponge over the spoiler and swirled the finish. In the bright sun you can see many light scratches in the finish.
I thought about using a gentle polish, but wasn't sure if that was a good move as I think it is just a high gloss plastic and not paint. The last thing I want to do is add more damage.
I did wash, clay, and wax my car as soon as I could and spent some time detailing it and thought the scratches were reduced, but had it out today and they are still there.
Looking for info on disassembling a sideview mirror with LEDs for the purpose of fixing the LEDs? Only a couple of the lights stop working and it only happens some time, so I know the LEDs are good... I just want to fix the solder joints.
