So I changed my spark plugs, due to an error code saying p0301 which means cylinder one misfiring. I reset the engine light disconnecting the negative battery terminal. Once it reset it ran rough for a few miles. I put about 50 miles on it and it seems better.

I have had this problem now for a little while and have been trying to get it understood before paying $$ at the dealer for "maybe" solutions.
It started as the weather got colder. Intermittently the check engine light would come on. Then after a few days would go off.
I have considered water in the line: fuel injection cleaner/antifreeze
I have considered bad gas in the tank: problem persists several fuel tanks later
I have recently purchased a trouble code reader/diagnostic that plugs into my laptop. Trouble code is p0301. Cylinder 1 misfire.
I have taken it in to the shop.They tried:
>>moving the ignitor coil from cylinder 1 to cylinder 4,
>>and also tried moving the spark plug from cylinder 1 to cylinder 2.
>>performed compression test. Ok
The dealer suggests replacing the injector line for $1400+.( They did this with warm engine. They have not diagnosed cold engine yet. That is new, read more,...) I still have 5K kilometers left on the power-train warranty. If it is power-train I would like it resolved before warranty expires.
Now. Some new info as of yesterday:
Up till now I was not using the diagnostic monitor real time. but that started yesterday,... Last night when I got home from work while the engine was still warm I connected the diagnostic monitor and went for a drive. Every few minutes I would pull over and refresh the cylinder misfiring data. I had hardly any misfires across all the cylinders at all. Maybe 1 or 2, here or there over the span of a 10 minute warm engine ride. Up and down hilly terrain. Nothing that came close to triggering the p0301 trouble code. I parked the car outside and let it rest overnight.

View 10 RepliesI bought a second hand 2005 prius (gen II) at 125k km. Soon after I got the car I got p0402 and p0505. After clearing the errors, I got back only p0420.
About a month later, my car started randomly shaking both when accelerating and at idle. This happened 2 or 3 times in the span of 2 weeks. The CEL and traction control light started flashing. I stopped the car and started again like absolutely nothing happened 10 seconds ago. (This time I got only p0301.)
Yesterday, the situation with the shaking was horrible and I got p0301. Naturally, average fuel usage went up a lot. Even at idle on the parking lot, I turn on the aircon so the engine would start - the feeling is like the car is going to collapse any second.
I have recently used a new gas station, so I thought possibly bad fuel. However, if it was bad fuel, i should have gotten all misfire mistakes, right (p0300~p0304)?
So if I am getting only p0301, the problem should be either the spark plug, injection coil, fuel injector etc. for cylinder 1. My car is currently at the mechanic's place, so all of the above are being checked as we speak.
However, what I am worried about is that this shaking / lights flashing drama is happening at random. If it was any of the above, shouldn't is just happen all the time? When I went to the mechanic yesterday, I barely made it there. He was busy, I waited for 20 minutes, then he wanted me to drive the car for a bit to see the problem. This time the car was working like a brand new car. Absolutely nothing happened. He probably thought I was crazy.
So yeah, he will closely inspect spark plugs, injection coils, fuel injectors etc. If all of them are fine, where should we look next? Head gasket leak perhaps?
I have a Toyota Prius (2010), and the car has run for about 2800000 kilometers. One day when a was driving my Prius the engine light suddenly get on. So I went to a car car mechanic, he checked the car and told me there was an error code (error code: P0401, exhaust problem (exhaust recirculation flow).
So I bought a liquid that I put in the gas tank, the liquid would clean the exhaust pipe, but the engine light was still on. The engine light is usually on at least 2 weeks, then disappear for about 2 days and come back in two weeks…The car is driving normally without any problems.
Stopped at ATM when heard a thump under seat and all the above appeared on control panel. Waiting on computer code reader to test vehicle. Any clues to what all this means. Vehicle 2006 with 101K. Recent service as scheduled with coolant and inverter coolant and belt replacement done. No other issues to date with vehicle.
View 13 RepliesThis happened xmas shopping with the wife. Started misfiring on the highway,took the 1st exit to find a garage as I am 20kms from home. The vibrations were worse at stop, but made it to a garage. They gave me the p0301 misfire cylinder 1, said they don't touch 5.4 plugs, told me to go to ford 2kms down the road. NICE. 4 in the pm, FORD dealer worse case scenario. Nope gave me a loaner told me come back at 930am. Truck was just waiting for an injector when I arrived. Plug & coil were good injector was shot,changed the fuel filter & oil change.
View 6 RepliesI had a consistent misfire on this car and finally got a P0301 trouble code. I installed new Autolite AP 104 plugs and wires. Now, when I start the engine. it runs perfectly. But when I put it in gear, it misfires. After a minute or so, the misfire clears and the engine runs perfectly. I have not received another trouble code. One thing I did notice is that the plugs I took out (Motorcraft AWSF 32P) had a much larger gap than the .044 the associate at AutoZone set the new plugs to.

I was wondering what is the most affordable route for my car to get repaired. I don't notice any mpg differences and everything still charges and recharges as if the errors don't exist.

View 5 RepliesIts a 2009 Prius with about 75K miles on it. I have scangauge on the dash as well as mini-VCI. It is setting PO456 code time after time. I reset it, but it comes back in about 50 mils of driving. Its not the gas cap, I turn it until it clicks every time. Something is wrong with evaporative emissions system, which I wouldn't care about, except it might mask some other fault code that is more serious, as it keeps check eng. light on all the time.

I found out it is either the thermostat or the coolant temperature sensor. I wanna know where it is located in the engine bay. I have a 02 VW Jetta 1.8T.

View 5 RepliesI got a P0118 error code on my car. Looked up some things and most people were saying change coolant temperature sensor. I changed it 2 days ago and have not had a chance to clear the CEL. Its still on now, guy at Autozone would not clear it, said it was against company policy.
Will this turn off automatically once problem corrects itself? I went to Autozone and had them rescan the error, this time another code poped up P0444, EVAP(Evaporative Emission System)Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Open. What this can be?
I have a 99 Volkswagen Passat 1.8 Turbo Automatic AEB engine. I recently did a rebuild on it and ever since I keep getting this code P0301 that says "cylinder 1 misfire". The engine is also running rich and the spark plug in cylinder 1 keeps getting gummed up. I've changed the coil and the spark plugs and the injectors and it works temporarily but then the problem keeps reoccurring.
