All of the other buttons on my 05 are fine but for the last year or so the defrost buttons only work when the wheel is turned at least 90 degrees. I am guessing that there is a contact strip of some sort. How hard is it to get to the backside of these buttons?
View 2 RepliesI just noticed this the other day. The three climate control buttons on the right side of my steering wheel--fresh/recirc, front defrost, rear defrost--have stopped working.
The functions still work if I use the MFD display to control them. What this might be? Is there a separate fuse for these buttons?
The Vent/defrost/front/rear buttons on the steering wheel quit working so I replaced them, still not working, so I replaced the Clock spring, still not working. The controls on the touch screen works fine its just the steering wheel buttons that don't work.

Horn doesn't work either! And the light on the driver side door (for windows/lock/unlock) are NOT lit up either...?? It's all black and dark @ night..
Is there a fuse/relay for these type of things? If so...where do I start looking?
I took off the Airbag from Steering wheel and removed steering wheel to double check everything...and everything looks good. No damage. Wires are all connected well etc.
I have a Volvo XC90 2.4 D5 2004. But none of the buttons on the steering wheel are working - not volume for radio, not cruise control.
Symptoms are following:
* buttons on the steering wheel are lighted up
* buttons on the steering wheel are not working, none of them
* horn is not working
I have checked internet over and over and have 3 conclusions, what might be faulty:
1) steeling wheel lining/wire/connections - but in this case they would work periodically and the buttons would not be lighted up;
2) steering wheel module (swm) - in this case also the turn signals would not work and also the headlight would be faulty;
3) clockspring - in this case the airbag light should light up in dashboard.
I have a 2012 GLS and on the way to work this evening I noticed that the volume/channel buttons on the steering wheel for the radio will not work. The mode button still works properly, so I attempted to change the radio station on the radio itself to no avail. No buttons other than the volume work on the radio as well.
View 11 RepliesI took my truck to the dealer because my steering wheel buttons quit working as far as going forward or back between songs via bluetooth. The tech said the buttons don't work via bluetooth from the factory and I told him he was wrong. They worked in a 2007 Edge, 2008 F150, 2009 Fusion, 2009 F250, and until the day before, my 2012 F150. He said "You must be mistaken". I took it home, pulled Fuse 2 (Sync) waited a couple of minutes (Nice place for the fuse box, Ford) put the fuse back, let Sync load, repaired, etc, and my steering buttons now work again. I only use bluetooth with both my S3 and Note 2, so if your buttons stop working, do you always have to pull the fuse, or is there an easier way to fix this? That's the fix I found.
View 8 RepliesMan one day my steering wheel buttons stopped displaying the hologramthing and my trip and display buttons do not work. The weird thing is all my other buttons work fine just no display on dash when presse. This caused my display to get stuck on the prius picture and the odometer instead of my mpg and trip.

I hear some PiP driver's would really like the EV / drive mode button(s) on the steering wheel. I heard they need to switch to EV and back into HV.
How often adjust temp on steering wheel? Not much here.
The right side of my (2011 level II) steering wheel has five buttons: Trip, Dist, air recirc, temp +/-. All but Trip and Dist are duplicates of nice big buttons on the climate console, so are rather redundant.
View 7 RepliesMy 07 Prius has developed a problem and i would like to get opinions about whether the problem could've been caused by the body work I had done a week before.
i want to know if i should take it back to the body shop and ask them to check it, or, if it's not likely to have been caused by the body work, then i'll just take it to the Toyota agency. If it wasn't the body shop, I am hoping to have it covered by the Prius Chat platinum warranty.
When presenting this to the body shop or the Toyota agency, i would like to be as informed as possible about what the possibilities are.
The problem is that some of the steering wheel controls are not working. Some of the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel are not responding. The Info button does not work, and the climate related buttons on the bottom get no response. The Map button and all the bluetooth phone buttons do work.
At first, there was a delayed response when using the Info button. The next day, it stopped responding at all.
Background (not sure if it's relevant): My car was in the body shop for 13 days. I got it back on 8/24. Damage was too the bottom right side, doors and adjacent body.
When i picked up the car and drove it, it seemed fine except that the MPG average was only 25mpg. Normally for me, it's around 38 to 40. It has gradually come back up. for this reason, i was frequently pressing the Info button on the steering wheel to bring up the screen that shows the current mpg average.
At the moment my remote will not lock or unlock the vehicle, although the indicator light on the remote lights up on key press. ( this vehicle is not equipped with sks ).
This is a brand new key Fob (under a month old) as I had the old one replaced under warranty. I can still start the vehicle by placing the remote in the dash as usual, only the buttons don't work. It worked perfectly fine this morning, so I am not sure what the deal is.
Recently replaced:
-Key Fob itself ( about a month ago )
-12 v battery ( about 4 months ago )
- combination meter ( about a month ago )
i have prius 2004 yesterday the rear defroster stopped and not working while the key on steering wheel and the yallow light indicator works very well and mirror defroster also working well, this case it become yesterday but before that it was working as usual.
View 1 RepliesA couple of days ago I noticed that one of the elements in the upper rear window defogger/defroster isn't working. It's the fifth one from the bottom I believe. All the other elements on the top and bottom seem to be working correctly. Is there a way to correct this without taking it to the dealer?
View 2 RepliesMy steering wheel controls on the lower half quit working last year , then the cruise control quit intermittently last month , then the air bag light starts appearing last week. Deciding this means a failed clock spring / spiral cable , I took apart my spiral cable housing, and found two obvious breaks in the electrical wiring . I first bought a salvage unit on Ebay, to find it arrived bound, didn't turn freely (and no returns from seller). I then bought one from the dealer and installed it last week and very happily have all symptoms fixed!
The replacement was easier than I expected, the steering wheel was not actually very tight, I doubt I needed the steering wheel puller I 'borrowed' from the parts store , could have just loosed the main nut, wiggled and tugged it loose. Just a note be sure to remove 12 volt power from the car, and mark the steering wheel center shaft to the steering wheel for reinstall .
As a rural mail carrier I deliver mail out of my prius with the window down, traveling about 5 hours a day on dusty ,sand roads in Kansas. The car interior gets dusty and this caused the failure of the spiral cable.
Pic's of the old failed unit, the new one comes with some lubricant, white perhaps lithium grease for the ribbons/ wheels, mine had dryed up patches of grease, some I cleaned off the ribbons before the pictures where taken. I'll check the new one in a year, may regrease , cleaning it out to try to prevent this from happening again. I did add some plastic under the airbag to improvise a dust shield for the new spiral cable. Car has 197k bought it with 106k , now has around 60 k from driving on the route.
New batts in remotes (remotes do nothing but do start the car when inserted in dash).
12 volt batt removed and tested good at autozone.
Tried the "key" button under steering wheel in both positions still not working..
Checked all fuses under the hood, all OK ...all other items in the car seem to work..
None of the exterior black buttons work..
In my 07 Camry I only have the volume, next and previous, and mode buttons. I'm wondering if I can add more like the phone buttons. I bought a aftermarket in dash headunit so I wanna use it to it's full capability.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2011 GTI and lately I've been running into an issue with my steering wheel buttons and the RNS-315.
Issue #1: When I use the left button to toggle left/right between my radio presets (does it on both FM and Sirius), if I hit "right" it will go left. If I hit "left" it goes right...but only 3 times. On the fourth time it will jump to some random station. This happens all the time.
Issue #2: When using MDI connected to an ipod, the left button lets me switch through the songs just fine. but every once in a while (for example it has only happened once this month) it will freeze up and the left buttons will no longer function (e.g. let me toggle between songs). When this happens I switch to radio and the same deal, buttons are frozen. turning the radio off and back on again lets me switch once, then it's frozen again. If I turn the car off and on, it's back to normal.
My wife has had her 2008 ES350 for a couple of years and the finish on the steering wheel button have been rubbed away. I have seen where Lexus fixed this for newer models. My question is can I fix this or replace these button rather easily?
