I have a weird noise from my 2007 Prius. It seems to be coming from the front left of the car. The car drives well, Tracks, feels stable at all speeds. It's just making a crazy noise at almost all speeds, it starts around 10 mph. It's a very DEEP ggggrrrrrrrrrrr. When the car is shifted in N it continues.
View 15 RepliesI just bought 2008 Prius (60tkm) and now i am wondering about noise coming from left front. It sounds very much like my older car breaks. High pitch squeezing noise. But it:
- doesn't appear immediately when you start driving
- doesn't appear on normal driving speed (> 30-40 km/h), or i just couldn't hear it
- does appear when driving very slow
- does appear when accelerate gently
Something with breaks? Sound is very loud.
I have a stick shift Camry 2004 with 160K miles on it and I hear a popping noise (not clicking cv joint noise) coming from the front left side . I hear the noise when I drive off from a stop regardless of whether I am turning or not but mostly when I release the clutch after changing gears on second and sometimes third gear. I was told by a mechanic and a ntb tires and a former toyota mechanic it had to be the struts.
I figured what the heck ordered new mounts and struts had and I installed them and had the car aligned. That did not solve the problem. My next guess was the engine mount by the transmission so i changed that and still no success. The former toyota mechanic told me he now thinks it's the transmission but I am skeptical. How to diagnose this? BTW 95 % sure the problem started when my wife hit the sidewalk really hard (so hard I had to change the rim).
I have had my 07' Prius about a month now and have noticed a odd sound coming from the left front of the car when accelerating. When I accelerate I hear an off metallic crackling sound. It almost sounds like marbles swishing around. The sound is coming from the left side of the car in the engine bay. If I had to guess it sound like it's coming from under the invertor area. The sound only happens when I am accelerating at a moderate pace.

View 1 RepliesI've been having a lot of noise coming from the front left tire, and I finally had it diagnosed as a bad wheel bearing today.
I noticed that the front wheel bearings are sold individually while the rear wheel bearings are sold as hub assemblies. Is there a certain way that the front wheel bearings have to be removed and pressed on? I'm trying to see if this is a DIY repair.
I know that you're supposed to hear a soft whining noise when starting up and shutting down the car, especially in cold weather. For at least a year now, the noise coming from my front left has gotten much louder and more obnoxious, especially in cold weather.
From what I've seen on this forum so far, I think it is the coolant heat transfer pump. Does that sound right? Or could it be a different pump or piece of some sort? Seems like there has been confusion on this issue, from other threads I've read.
The noise has gotten louder and longer, it lasts about 10-15 seconds now. Especially in the winter, it sounds really bad, I'm afraid the pump is going to fail this winter.
Gurgling/percolating sounds, car started making a few weeks ago. The sound is coming from deep inside our front dash area. We do plan on bringing it to our local VW dealers attention at next scheduled oil change. I started getting this noise as well about a month ago. My passengers commented about sounding like someone sawing inside the dashboard. I do like the percolating description better...
This is different than the other "running water" sound that you get when initially turning the car on. I was told that was normal.... This percolating sound happens while driving and I noticed that it does have the pattern of happening when at slow speeds or stopped in traffic (after driving fast for a while).
2007 Prius w/ ~90,000 miles. So my wife was driving home and reports she hears a thunk of some sort, and then a scraping noise coming from the front of the car. She drives it home and I take a quick peek. Nothing dragging underneath, sounds like it's coming from the tires, so probably brake-related. But here are some additional clues: when I reversed down the (very short) driveway (at very low speed, <5mph), I heard the scraping. I then put it in D to go forward, again at low speed, and heard the scraping and then something went clank, like something was shifting in the other direction. Whenever I change direction, the clank sound and more scraping. Also: when the car is off and I'm gently rocking it back and forth, I hear squeaking, like springs of a bed.

For about the last 5000 miles I've been experiencing - only a few times a month, and totally out of the blue - a grinding noise coming from the front (i think left). This happens when I'm traveling at about 55-58 mph (never at lower speeds). It even happened once when the cruise was set. It gets pretty loud, and i find that if i pull over and stop for a few seconds, then keep going, that it stops. In other words, it seems that breaking to a stop disengages whatever the cause is. Also, no warning lights come on at all...like i said, it happens totally out of the blue. No, it's not the wheel bearing.

Well, just recently that same type of noise is coming from the rear compartment of the car and only when coming to a stop or sitting at a light.

I have a 2002 Toyota Camry, 4 cylinder, SE Model, 150,000 miles
It sounds like metal on metal. It only happens at low speeds (less than 20mph). Only happens when I turn the steering wheel right. While I am driving straight, the noise is not there.
Here is what I have changed on my car in the last 3 months:
-New Brake rotors
-New Brake Pads
-New sway bar link
-New sway bar bushing
-New outer tie rod end
-New lower ball joint
More Observations:
-CV joint is not leaking
-Checked the struts for proper movement
-The strut seems properly seated in the bearing plated, nothing broken (under the hood)
-I confirmed that the disc brake shield is not in contact with anything
Am I missing anything? What else could be causing this?
Just curious. I installed a set of Drive Gear springs on my auto passat and I have a "swoosh" kind of noise coming from I think it's the left front. (I think, might come from the others) It happens a lot on small bumps.
View 8 RepliesI just put on some new wheels and tires (19" VMR RS4 reps) and there is a weird clanking noise coming from the front left wheel when I am going around 10 mph. It doesn't happen when I'm moving faster, but I have checked it out and don't see anything rubbing or hitting any metal pieces. Could it be the suspension or something else? I haven't heard it around any of the other wheels.

Ok at 40 mph and above I have a loud humming noise coming from my left front wheel. I replaced my rotor and pads due to normal wear. I also replaced the bearing. No fix. Tires were rotated a month ago. Could it be my CV joint? The boots are fine.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2002 Nissan Xterra SE (Silver). I have just a couple miles over 200K on her too! recently, I have had a chirping noise coming from the front left tire. It chirps upon rotating, as well as when i turn the wheel to the left. I only hear the chirp at slower speeds. Also, the breaks have been starting to screech, not a lot, but occasionally. Do I have bad ball bearings? Need new brakes? Both? Or is there a chance a rock is stuck up in there? The chirp goes away when it's wet outside, like after a rain!
View 3 RepliesI've had some awful noise coming from the front drivers side of my car. Determining the likly cause to be the wheel bearing, I decided to tackle replacing the hub assembly as a lovely weekend project. Things were going along ok - Removed brake caliper, removed the axle nut (that wasn't fun), removed the rotor (rather persistently stuck on, but it gave in the end), and then came removing the hub assembly itself. Had a rented hub puller, put it on, started tightening it down and tapping on the hub as I went. It was getting pretty tight on there (was starting to worry about the safety of the cv shaft), and then as I tapped on the hub one last time, the hub and hub puller popped off the car... I was elated, until I realized rather than pulling the entire hub assembly out, it had actually separated the inner track of the bearing from the outer track, leaving the wheel bearing and flange behind inside the steering knuckle.
So, here I sit, with half my hub assembly on the ground and the other half still in the car. How to get the rest of the hub assembly out, now that there is nothing to really pull on? I've tapped around on it for a couple hours, and soaked it in enough penetrating oil to make the car flamable, but no give. I've even tried putting the hub bolts back in through the back and tapping on them with a hammer to no avail (probably going to have to replace the bolts now, but one problem at a time).
So whenever I brake while reversing (and rarely while moving forwards) I hear this odd grinding noise coming from the front left wheel and can feel it through the brake. Im not a petrol head but I decided to replace a wheel bearing hub myself recently to save money. I am pretty sure I reconnected the anti lock brakes correctly though I doubt it's that. My brakes are good.
