However, our other 04 that we still have is starting to make a not so nice cracking (only way I can describe it) noise when turning the wheel while dipping into a dip. Or even while turning into our driveway before we go up it. Somewhere I heard the steering rack, which can cost over $2,000 (supposedly)
View 3 RepliesI recently bought an'08 Base model. It is making a creaking noise in the front end on the left side either behind the wheel or under the motor. It only does it when taking off from a stop and/or turning mainly to the right during slow speed, seems to be when the body weight is shifting. To me it sounds as though something needs greased or maybe a strut.

View 19 RepliesSort of sounds like the body is flexing when I initially back out of my driveway. Slight drop-off from the driveway to the road, and a kind of loud creak/cracking/popping noise seems to emanate from the right side of the car. No noise I can notice while driving and once the car does it, it takes a while before it will do it again, like after driving on level ground for a bit. Frame issues maybe?
View 10 RepliesI rented my car for a few days on Turo and it returned with this problem. The renter says nothing happened, who knows. When I raise or lower the window, there is a loud pop/crack that happens. It always happens at the same height. I can raise and lower the window for a couple inch around that point and reproduce that sound everythime.
View 6 RepliesIn my 2006 Prius, I just started noticing this recently, but whenever I turn my steering wheel, it makes a weird noise and I can feel something going on through the steering wheel. It doesn't impede my steering, the car steers just fine... It's just an add sound, I don't want to say a cracking sound... but it kind of is? I don't know. I'll have to put a video of it up. & it doesn't matter which way I turn it, it still makes the weird sound and the intermittent vibration... I know it has E-steering and occasionally you can here the motor whirring when you turn it but this is different, it's a loud... popping noise is the word for it! Popping, and I can feel it when it pops through the steering wheel. Again, it doesn't impede the steering ability at all, but something isn't right I'm sure... Or maybe it's normal.

View 10 RepliesI get a annoying cracking noise when I am driving and it is hot outside, have not noticed it in cooler weather, but as soon as the car has been sitting for hours in the heat and I start driving the dashboard seems to crack every few minutes. it seems like it happened on the corners where the tweeters are. I also get a crackiling sound when driving, sounds like rocks are hitting my window.

View 7 RepliesI have a 2009 prius that I just took into the dealer for an oil change at 50K miles. They told me, the engine belt was "cracking" and it would be $145 to fix.
I wanted to take it to a mechanic I trust to fix. I called on my way over and he said he could replace the belt for $90 but when I brought it in he looked at the belt for a couple of minutes and said it looked fine to him. He didn't recommend any work now and said just check it again during my next oil change.
I don't want to be stranded if it breaks.
I purchased a 2012 Camry SE V6 end of December 2011. I really like the car's performance but have an annoying issue.
Above the driver's position, I hear short popping or cracking sounds when the car is moving and going over bumps or when the road twists. This sounds like a body structural issue and comes from the roof area to the left of the sunroof. This happens less often when it is sunny and more often when it is not sunny so the cooler metal may be the issue. The noise sometimes stops altogether when it is sunny or after the car has been driven for an hour. Once it sits for a couple of hours on an overcast day, the annoying pop/crack will start up again.
The door panel was replaced but the problem continued.
I have this strange creaking almost a sharp cracking noise coming from the rear part of the roof near my head when I go over some bumps. I have tried all the usual methods; lubricating roof rubbers, adjusting bump stop under package shelf; adjusting roof height using the grub screw adjustment; nothing seems to work. It almost sounds as if the noise is coming from some of the hard plastic roof trim but I can't seem to pinpoint it despite using foam padding, silicone spray etc..
View 3 RepliesI have a 2007 Toyota Avalon Limited. For the last three years or so I get a very loud cracking noise from the Radio, I can even turn it off and it continues or gets louder. I took it to the dealer, they think it is some of the speakers. Since are 12 speakers, not sure I want to start replacing them. I thought it might be the amplifier, took to an electronics guys. He took a lot of the car around the radio apart, we could never find the amplifier. I think the amplifier is in the trunk with the GPS Disk Player. If you were going to replace something, would be the radio, amplifier, or? The only way to stop it is to remove the fuse which causes the radio and GPS screen to not work.
View 3 RepliesOn my 2007 f250 ext cab long bed when I got home tonight and parked it in the driveway I noticed a cracking or tapping noise coming from the right rear of the truck around the hub area. I bought the truck about a month ago from a ford dealer. The truck has 111k on it and runs pretty good. I have also noticed when I back the truck up a short distance and then put it drive and start to go forward that there is a slight popping noise coming from the rear end. I have had the carrier bearing checked and dealer says its good. What this might be. Could it be a sticky brake caliper?
View 6 RepliesI happened to look at the top of my 04 Excursion yesterday and found the paint cracking and lifting off the roof. So the first thing I did was to come look here and see if it was a common issue. I searched and found a couple threads about this issue from 2 and 4 years ago.
Apparently, the paint was applied too thick and that is why it cracks, lifts and breaks off. Some said they went to ford and ford has offered some type of discount on the repair.
But, that was years ago and I'm not sure if I think that ford is liable to fix this on an 8 year old vehicle.

Have a cracking noise coming from the rear windshield/deck when going over bumps when the car is cold? I've had this consistently since I got the car. It also has been consistently cold so there have been no warm days for me to tell if this noise goes away when it's warm out or not. It is extremely annoying though and I can't really pinpoint what it is either.
View 2 RepliesMy truck broke down on the freeway last night. I heard a cracking noise (metal breaking) and it sounded like a backfire. The engine was running fine, good RPM's. I rev it up and the noise got worse, It sounds like a bad lawn mower or go cart. I was also smelling raw fuel.
Could I have broken a exhaust flange or the manifold? It sounds like the exhaust is bad and not burning the fuel.
There were no codes or a check engine light. I only went 1/2 mile after it broke down. I had to tow it to a local shop.
It's a 2003 4.6 with 205,000 miles.
Common issues that arise with GX470. From what I know I will list the first 2 that I know of:
1) Clunk sound from driveshaft
2) dashboard cracking
My 2009 SE V6, I have the grey cloth/leather combo and the drivers seat is pretty much cracking. I am not sure if it is cheap or the unusually cold winters we had here in MD. The car has 28,000. I am going to show to the dealer because in the cracks, the dye is coming off. I had a Trailblazer LTZ for 3 years and never seen that happen but it was tan leather.
Second, my car at higher speeds has a lot of wind noise, I think it is the mirrors. I am going back to the dealer for my 30k gouging soon and I will show them the seat again.
