My 2004 just developed a coolant leak. The past couple times I've moved the car, there's been a small pink puddle under where the engine was. The leak seems to be coming from a weep hole positioned between the two bolts of the lower engine mount. The hole is circled in red in both pics.
View 1 RepliesSo, I've had the car for a grand total of six days. Was just showing off what's under the hood to a coworker when I noticed droplets of pink and the coolant tank is almost at minimum. Leaking already? Calling the dealer now...I'm gonna have Mark 4 flashbacks/PTSD if this is a preview of coming attractions.
View 2 RepliesI have the 2.4l engine and the car has 177K on it. Bought it from a friend at 60K and never had a problem with it. I started getting the coolant puddle from the rear of the engine. We took the intake manifold off and saw that the head was leaking in the rear. Real small drop forming and then falling. No codes at the time either. Seems this car has problems with the Engine bolts and was wondering how many people out there had a blown head gasket and there was no bolt issue?
Also I know this is not the right thing to do but use Engine Block Sealant? This is the kind that you drain your antifreeze,flush twice and then run this stuff in it for little while and then replace with antifreeze.
I am upside down on the car because I put 50K a year on so don't think I will get anything for trade. I am hoping my brother in law and I can fix it but am wondering what the odds are there is a problem with the bolts.
On the 06 Prius I have been working on, I noticed a light build up of pink coolant residue on the inside of the ICE water pump pulley. I assumed that this was due to a coolant leak from the weep hole, which points to an impending water pump failure.

Finally this morning I saw a small puddle of coolant on driveway. green color as we had a snow/ice storm. Lost about 3/4 inch coolant in expansion tank. still about low on cold freezing day.
I searched through this forum, not a common thing for the heater core.. There were cases about freezer plug not tight..hose clamp not tight. etc
My question is that where is the freezer plug? Any easier way to get to the the heater core.? without taking the whole dash out?

I'm fairly certain I'm leaking coolant. Below will be a pic of the reservoir as well as where it appears to be coming from. I did a search and saw it could possibly be a flange that may have failed? Other than that there wasn't much useful information. The screw in the picture was the only thing wet, and was directly above the small puddle on the garage floor. As you can see by the pic the coolant is visibly lower than last time I checked.

It's been about 2 years since the prior owner had it in for a service, I recall they had it in right before we purchased it in August 2008

I noticed the inverter coolant level is no longer at full It's hard to see where it's at, actually
It's not below low, and it seems to be at least up to the bottom of the double seam that wraps around the tank, but I can't see where it levels off behind the seam
Should I be concerned enough to take it in to the dealer and pay them to hunt around until they find a small leak, or is it normal to lose a small amount of coolant over the course of a couple years
Should I just buy their high priced Toyota Super Long Life Coolant and top off the extra 1/8-1/4" or so until it's at FULL?
My truck had a small puddle of anti-freeze under it last week. It has been sitting for a couple of weeks with no issues until I noticed the puddle. After I cleaned it up, it hasn't leaked for a few days. I obviously can't find a source. What could have caused it to leak and then suddenly stop?

Dash came on with low coolant level. Added a small amount of coolant ( at the add coolant level line) and then started noticing small amounts of coolant under car in the mornings.
View 3 RepliesI have a 04' RX 330 with 92k. It has small radiator leak. If you are standing in front of the car and look below the fan on the left side of the radiator you can see a small amount of red fluid that has leaked out of the radiator. However, the leak isn't big enough that I ever have to add coolant I just top it off when I get the oil changed. Also it doesn't puddle on the pavement when parked.
The only thing I really notice is that my windows tend fog abit easier now so I assuming the moisture must be making its way into the ventalation somehow. My mechanic said its about a $700 repair. My question should I fix it and is $700 reasonable. Also I've never had the timing belt replaced would it make since do have this done at the same time as the radiator. How long will it take before it becomes a major problem instead of a minor annoyance?
I dropped the F250 (30k miles) off at the dealer yesterday- in the last several days I've noticed a small leak puddle under the front drivers side frame member. I asked the service writer if they had had many trucks in for the radiator leak and he said "no". He has heard the waste gate solenoid buzzing the last two times I've stopped in for routine service and had said they would fix it when I left it with them.
View 9 RepliesMy 1999 F150 Supercab has developed a water leak which I would like to ask your opinions on. Parked on a 20 degree incline during a pouring rain yesterday, I came out to find a small puddle in the driver's side rear floor corner and about an ounce of water pooled in a little lip at the bottom of the rear window in the right corner of the window! Haven't started tearing anything apart yet (and might not be able to myself), but it seems that it is possibly the rear window seal as the window and the outside body area appear to be in good shape otherwise (no visible rust, no seal obviously dislocated, etc).
Also, don't know if it's related, the other day I jacked up the truck with a floor jack under the front crossmember but a bit off center which caused the truck to twist a bit before both wheels came off the ground. While doing this, I heard and felt a loud bang like something broke in the frame! Couldn't see anything out of place and something similar has happened before where a lug of the jack cup had shifted slightly while jacking the vehicle and it caused a loud bang to be heard, but this time it didn't quite feel like it was at the jack but further back.
Could something have "broken" in the truck that I can't quite see and thus this leak has occurred which wasn't there previously or could it just be coincidence that the bang and leak occurred so close in time to each other. I know it's hard to diagnose something like this without seeing the vehicle or really know what happened but I just had to put it out there as part of the events that occurred within the timeline for this leak.
I have a small coolant leak coming from the passenger side near the back of the engine that forms a spot about the size of a dinner plate if it sits for a few days.
One thing I noticed is if I turn off the AC selector switch when I park I will get the drip but if I leave the switch on MAX AC when I shut the truck off I do not get any leaking.
It is definitely coolant and not just the condensation from use of the AC. If I haven't used the truck for a few days or if I have run it with the AC off I will get the drips.
If I run with the AC on and leave the switch in the on position when I shut the truck off it won't leak. I have tried to locate it from looking above and below but can't determine where it is coming from.
I looked at a 99 with a 5.0 and noticed a puddle on the driver side, a little below and inboard of the power steering pump but outboard of the water pump. The puddle was higher than the water pump weep hole and it was in a racetrack oval shape. I was unable to see where the leak originated and I couldn't tell exactly what part/housing the puddle was sitting on. Obviously, the leak had originated from above.
I don't think it was coming from the upper radiator hose as I remember the upper radiator hose being more on the passenger side and I don't recall any heater hoses in the area. The only things that came to mind as the potential leak source were the intake manifold and the sensors on it. Are the 5.0 intakes prone to coolant leaks? Other than hoses, what else would be leaking coolant on the driver side?
My good friend has a 2011 6.7 and has been dealing with a coolant leak for a few months. Dealership has had the rig a few times and said it passed " a pressure" test etc. and they see no issue, yet he finds a puddle under the truck when after it has been parked. How best to check it out? I'm not familiar with some of the common trouble spots on the 6.7 like I am with the 7.3.
View 14 RepliesMy truck just passed the 3 year/36k by 2 days! I got it on 8/4/10 but it only has 27,000 miles of course I just found a puddle of coolant under the right front drivers side. After a little reading, I guess this is common. Should I push for Ford to fix it or get an extended warranty and turn it in on that or... Aftermarket yet that isn't half plastic like this stock POS?
View 12 Replies2003 Jetta Gli seems to have a very small coolant leak. The leak is small enough that I don't even notice a puddle on the ground the light on the dash told me it was low. It is the Vr6 motor. Also I don't know if this is the right forum for my car the title says 2004.5 Gli mine's an 03. If this is a big deal just let me know and I'll delete this post and go else where.
View 4 RepliesI've noticed the past few days that my car has been leaking a small amount of coolant. I've only had the car a month, and it has 1300 miles on it. I'm in Texas so it's been about 100 degrees every day.
There's been a few times that I've turned off the car and the fan has stayed on for a few minutes, so it must be getting pretty hot.
I'm assuming this little bit of coolant is just coming from the overflow, but I've never had a new car do this so I'm concerned that there's a problem. I checked the fill level, and it's a hair above the LOW line, so it's within range.
Had a P2181 come up twice now... both on startup on a cool morning. Came on again this weekend. Monday morning I noticed a small coolant leak under the front of the car directly in line with the passenger headlight, but it only leaks if I park the car with the front down a slope. I parked uphill on Monday night and no leak in the morning, but I backed in facing downhill on Tuesday and had a small leak when I checked late last night.
So, last night I broke out the UV/black light -- G12 seems to fluoresce yellow'ish. I couldn't see much, so it is a small leak. There is some wetness on the bottom passenger side of the rad that's dripping over the back side of the front bumper/lip. No wetness around any other hoses, thermostat housing, temp sensor, turbo lines. But that's all from the top view. No time yet this week to get it up on stands to pull the bumper/splash shields for a closer look either.
I am little concerned tho as there's some wetness around the valve cover and when I pulled the oil cap my eyes suggested a bit of fluorescence under the cap and inside the valve cover. I'm a little worried oil and coolant may be meeting up somewhere... And to think... I was just in the process of getting geared up to do brakes and plugs before getting a modest tune (stage 1).

View 1 RepliesQuick question, my 2007 Santa Fe with 3.3 has developed a small coolant leak. Every so often, I see a few drops on the garage floor and every 6 months or so I need to fill the reservoir with new coolant. So I took it in last Friday at a Hyundai dealership and he said that I need a new head gasket.
So my question is, is that correct? I did a search and most say that if you need a new head gasket, coolant would have leaked into the engine and oil.
When I changed the oil back in June, I don't recall seeing any foam or-or any indication that something is wrong with the oil. Even yesterday, I open up the oil cap and pull the dipstick, every looks normal. I assumed that not all head gasket problems lead to coolant in the oil?
