Prius (2004-09) :: Code P3012 / Red Triangle But All Module Voltages Stable
May 28, 2014
2007 Prius with 112k. It's getting the red triangle and check engine with code P3012. My understanding is P3012 points to 'Battery Block 2 Becomes Weak'. Battery block 2 is the 3rd and 4th modules counting from the end where the ECU is. These two modules test out the same as the other 26 modules in this pack, ranging from 7.40 to 7.46.
I got them this low by running A/C on high with car in neutral, hoping the bad module would show up. (Neutral prevents engine from charging HV battery.)

I have P0420 on my 06 prius with 220K miles. I reset it and it comes back after roughly 50 miles-ish. I have freeze frame data when the code is thrown. I read live data at 2500 rpm while the car is warm, and have all the data on the video link below.
My upstream O2 voltage is 3.1-3.3V. Downstream is .2-.4V. I understand that the downstream should be steady, and the upstream should fluctuate and read something between .1V-1V.
I have also taken thermal temp gauge and measured across both cats and readings downstream seem to be only slightly higher (+50F). It should be ALOT higher shouldn't it?

I replaced a couple modules in my battery pack several months ago and it was working great until a few weeks ago I drove it after it had been sitting a couple days and it threw code P3006. I logged all the block voltages with Torque while I put the battery under load and found a potential issue but I'm not sure how relevant it is. Block 16 on on line 283 drops from 1624 to 1296(the refresh rate is rather poor so it's about 7 seconds between readings) while the other blocks only drop to about 1450. Is this significant or are anomalies like this normal? If this is an issue, how would I go about fixing it? I don't have the equipment to do a full rebalance, just a single channel charger. I did make sure that the voltages on the modules I replaced were consistent with the pack.
I plotted the data here.

have a 07 prius with 113k miles. It recently displayed the red triangle with code p0aa6 sub code 612.
I took apart the battery and nothing looked corroded, then on the inside of the bus bar i found a small amount of corrosion. After testing the cells i found 2 modules that were leaking voltage.
Since I had everything open I figured I might as well test to see if any cells were on there way out. The static voltages were pretty close around 7.8v, there were a couple modules that were .3v apart that I'm doing more testing on. I load tested each module with 1a, is 1 amp enough for a load test? I have a 100a load tester but figured that was way too much. They were all ok under load test, dropping about .6v and returning to original voltage within a few minutes.
Then I decided to check capacity on the bad cells, they were about 500mah, got to 1000mah after 1 discharge/charge cycle. I tested the capacity on a cell I thought was good and so far it discharged about 1050mah until it reached 6v, this was from 7.77v. I'm giving it some time to rest to see if it goes back up a bit and then I'll discharge some more till it stays at 6v. Even if I get a little bit more in it will be way under the 6500mah it should have or even the 3500mah that I've read is acceptable.
Since all of the modules have parameters that are pretty close I'm thinking the capacity will be pretty close as well.

I replaced one bad module and seemed to run fine for a 3 or 4 miles, but now getting red triangle and a yellow exclamation mark with no codes showing up (using Torque app) and car goes in and out of a weak sputter just like it did before I replaced the bad module. What to do next.

My tire sensor "!" lights been on for a while now.. it usually disappeared when i aired up the tires but with a stable air read it is still on. Tried doing a reset but it still stays on.
Do one of my sensors are faulty or do I just need a program reset? Or I can just go to a big tire shop to get it fixed or should i go to the stealership?

I picked up a 2004 Prius with 150k. It has no check engine light and no codes with a scangauge. I hooked it up to a mini-vci with techstream and found the following: P3009-526, C1310 and B1421. The car will only start if you reset codes, then after a few minutes of running the red triangle comes back.

Was driving home from school yesterday and my 2005 Prius turned the check engine light on and the red triangle light. Plugged into the scan tool it read: P0a80. I have a hybrid battery ordered. It should be delivered on Tuesday. How long can I get out of this failing battery before the car is undriveable? The Prius is my only vehicle and I don't have a problem with installing the battery, I just I'm wondering if the car will just drop dead on me before the battery gets here? The car appears to be driving normally with no loss of performance or MPG.

Seems like issues with my 06 prius battery are back, however this time it is rather strange but very predictable. I cannot read any trouble code as the red triangle on the dash (and "problem" on the display) never stays on more than a few seconds (1-5 seconds at most).
At first it was doing this only after long downhill driving (like my 1.5 mile downhill street at 25 mph) - charging the battery and once getting to the last green bar I would get a Bip, red triangle and "problem" on the display. This has been going on for 4 weeks roughly.
But it's gradually getting worse, the same symptoms would appear after shorter downhill driving. And now it does almost every time I get the foot of the accelerator (assuming the car has decent momentum to regenerate).
I am guessing a module is starting to fail but last time I had a failed block, it didn't do that. One day I got the red triangle along with a bunch of other lights and that was it.

Had a company install fog lights on my replacement 2007 Prius I picked up after I totaled my 2008. When i went to pick the car up, the car wouldn't start. Showed the triangle of death and threw a code that the 12v was bad. Probably from having the car off and testing the fog lights continually - resulted in a drained battery. I picked up a brand new yellow top optima battery and thought this would resolve my issues. Nope, once the batter was replaced, the car wouldn't go into Drive or Reverse, only park or neutral. The current code is P0A0D. The shop is baffled. They removed all modified parts and still can't figure out the issue. They are currently replacing the interlock plug in hopes that this will resolve the issue.

2004 Prius, 149,000 miles. Driving on a highway when suddenly it felt like a headwind was bearing down on me, and a minute later, the red triangle of death and all the other lights came on. Did not totally lose power. Pulled to the shoulder and while waiting for the tow truck, started and turned the car off several times.
After the first few times, the red triangle did not light up, but the check engine icon remained on. The tow truck driver had a very difficult time getting the car into neutral to pull onto the flatbed, and then when he took the car off the truck to park it at the dealership, he said it shifted "hard" into drive.
I don't have a code since I don't own a reader. What this might be? I really, really hope it's not the traction battery needing replacement. I have no training to replace single cells.

About 1500 miles ago, I replaced a cell in the battery pack. Now the triangle of dead is back and the code is "replace battery pack" again.
I tested all the cells and here are the results.
(the previous one I replaced was 4.5 volts, very low and easy to find)

I currently have a 2008 Touring Package 6 with 180k and I am getting weird problems. I am getting the triangle of death, VSC, and yellow ! light. There is no check engine light. On the LCD I am getting the red battery + - icon as well as the car hybrid icon. I scanned it and I am getting a hybrid code P0A09 . All of the maintenance have been kept up and all fluids are perfect. No weird noises and the car is doing 53 mpg. It switches between gas and electric with no problems at all. Symptoms were yesterday with the lights. I cleared the codes and they would come back instantly. Today, I did the same thing and now everything is perfect. I am attaching the pictures of my dashboard lights that were on and the codes I was able to obtain in diagnostic mode.

My Prius has started throwing the code P0A80, it all happened after I went away for work and left the car in storage for 15 days, during that time I left the OBD scanner plugged in and it drained the 12v battery, a quick jump start and it was back up and running.
While I was backing it out of the driveway the warning triangle came on and the MFD said "problem" the scanner showed the P0A80 code. I thought that was odd, but maybe related to the flat 12v battery and self discharge of the traction battery so I reset the code, it drove normally to the shops. When I restarted it and started to drive it threw the same code again.
I then installed techstream on my laptop to try and get some more in depth answers but was having trouble getting that running on Windows 8. So overnight I disconnected the 12v battery and would try again in the morning.
I got techstream working and connected it up to the car, connected the 12v and started it. While I was configuring techstream to graph the pack voltages I noticed something odd, the engine was being loaded and unloaded in 2 second cycles, and at the same time the inverter was whining as it does this. I was thinking maybe it's doing some sort of charge and measure cycle since the ECU's have lost any pack data due to the power loss of the 12v battery?
It ran like this for 20 mins or so and the engine stopped, techstream showed pretty normal cell voltages, I couldn't see any wild differences between the cells.

I'm guessing that I need to repair or replace the HV battery. But I'm not sure.
Today I drove for about 20 minutes with no issue. 10 minutes later, I got back in the car to drive again. This time, after about 20 seconds into the drive, a string of dash lights came on; Red triangle, VSC, Check engine.
The VSC light went away. But the red triangle and check engine light are still on. So, I had the trouble codes pulled by a mechanic, and the code P0A80 was returned along with a statement reading 'replace hybrid battery'.
Should I take this at face value? Or look for something else first?

So I replaced my battery about 20k miles ago, so I know that's fine. I always throw a P0420, but I'm told that's fine too. So I was driving, and I lose power suddenly. The red triangle comes on, and I plug my scangauge II in, which tells me it's P0121, or the throttle body sensor. I reset the codes to make it home - my battery DID charge just fine on the way home, making it up to a 63.5 state of charge. Now when I start it, and press the gas, it tends to rev up, rev down, and repeat. I haven't gotten the red triangle again yet but I also haven't driven it since then.

My check engine and red triangle light came on. I checked the code and it's a battery issue. The code is P0A7F. I called the dealer and they want me to bring the car in for a check. I have about 117,000 miles on the car. They have a service bulletin open. I would like to avoid paying large dollars for a new battery.

This is a 2008 Prius with no check engine light or other operational issues. The car runs fine. When doing a health check with a Techstream scanner (new toy), it shows the code U0073 along with U0123, 124, 126, and 293. Need to further diagnose what may be wrong?

I have an 04 V6, yesterday it was perfectly fine...last night we had torrential down pours, high winds and standing water... not sure if any of that matters, but this morning I went to take the kids to school and my "BRAKE" light, the ABS light, and the exhaust lights were all on. Took it to a local shop and had them check for codes. They said it was U0121... lost communication with ABS module. What should I do? I drove it a couple of miles back to the house and again earlier this evening to see if anything felt different, but all seems the same.

What could cause code P0607 - Control Module Performance?
Truck seems to be driving fine (except it just recently developed what I think is either the cam phaser tick or an exhaust manifold leak on the passenger side).
I haven't tried clearing the code to see if it comes back. This is on a 2006 F150 FX4 with the 5.4L...
