Prius (2004-09) :: Car Won't Go Into Gear / All Warnings Lights On
Aug 23, 2015
Yesterday I changed my engine water pump and flushed the coolant. While filling the coolant I attempted to put the car into maintenance mode to run the pump. At the end of the process when I pressed the brake and start, the engine didn't start running and instead the car shut off.
Now all of the red triangle, ABS, vcs, check oil, and traction warnings are all on. There is also an icon of a red car with an exclamation point on the top left corner of the display. The car will also not go into gear and A/C and heat don't seem to be working.

Last week my ABS warning light came on. I took it to a mechanic (who I trust but is not a Prius-specific mechanic) who said warnings are coming up for the anti-lock accumulator and hydro boost motor. However, in July 2011 I had these both replaced. The work was done by a Toyota dealership. I ended up taking my car back 4 times after this work was completed as it kept having braking issues. They replaced the shim kit and bled the brakes. And eventually they replaced the master cylinder (this they did under warranty bc there was no way I was paying them any more money). At no point did they seem to understand what they were doing. (Along the way they broke my windshield and killed my battery.)
Finally by November 2011 my car was driving normal again. And then the warning light and high-pitched alarm went off again last week. I talked to Toyota Corporate who suggested I call the dealer to do the work since technically the accumulator and motor just ran out of their one year warranty. But this is the same dealer that didn't seem to know what they were doing last year.

So i dont have a prius... yet. Just started looking at them and ran across one that had the dash lit up and warnings on the lcd as well. I think it wise to steer clear of this car but curios as to what could be wrong with it as this info may come in handy as i look further into these cars.

I have had 3 or 4 warnings in the last two days when trying to start my car.
Sometime the red exclamation comes on and twice the mfd came up with a message about 'P' and parking on a flat surface.
I have a 09 gen2 and I'm on my original battery. Was wondering if its an early sign of 12v battery failure or if its something else?

My car has 196,000 miles on it & recently starting loading up, stalling. May be heat related. How can I determine if it's the ECM, crank or cam position sensors? The last time it quit on me it scrolled thru "ABS out", "Trac out" & "Gear box failure". Let it sit a minute, restarted it, not a single thing shows up. I'm afraid to drive it as it appears to be getting worse. Our code reader is not giving us anything definitive to go on. Jaguar XJ8 2003....

I installed some aftermarket HID lights in my 08 passat. I took it to a local shop to have the drls turned off and the bi xenon turned on. All the warnings and bulb out lights went off, the lights fire up perfect. but for some reason now the lights (all of them, rear, dash, parking all come on with the ignition whether or not the lights are switched on or off.
I am sure a code got changed that causes that, but which code would activate all lights all the time? It's not DRls it all lights are on just like you turned the lights on manually.

I've got a 2006 Prius, it's done this a few times before but self-resolved, this time it stayed dead- cold morning pressed power- all the gear lights blinked on-off, the fuel gauge goes up and down and no ability to engage gears.
I jumped it and got it to look "normalish": in park, normal dashboard lights, etc but when I tried to engage the gear into drive it just wanted to go to neutral. i thought maybe it knows that it's still attached to the jumper so I unhooked all that and when I got back into the prius it was dead-dead again- no lights, nada. I was doing this by myself.

A year ago, I had a problem starting my car (a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, about 120,000 miles). When I put the key in the ignition, the engine wouldn't turn. I knew there wasn't a problem with the battery because my lights, radio, etc. were still operating fine. Instead, I got a bright flashing "SECURITY" message on the front panel of the car. After a few minutes pacing around the parking lot, I returned to my car and it started without a problem. I checked online, and several car forums and articles claimed that this was a common problem in 2004 Chevrolet Impalas: some faulty wiring in the security system would stop the car from turning on because it thought you were trying to hot-wire the vehicle.
After the first incident, I didn't encounter this problem again until recently. Within the last 2 weeks, this problem has become more frequent, occurring maybe 2-3 times per week. The car won't start and I'll get a flashing "SECURITY" message. If I wait a while (between 5 to 30 minutes), the car will eventually start. I finally decided to take my car into a Chevrolet dealership to get the problem fixed. I described the problem to the mechanic; she guessed that the cause was associated with the ignition cylinder....

With my '04 V8, recently on my dashboard the selector gears light-up entirely, where as typically just the selected gear is highlighted with the orange box when operating. Make sense? P, R, N & D all are highligthed in the orange color.
It does this inconsistently in both automatic and tiptronic. Just last year I started using the vehicle to pull our pop up camper. No problems last year and it pulls fine. Two weeks ago on our first weekend out camping, using the tiptronic I noticed that all speeds where highlighted.
Sound I be concerned about this? I called local dealer, they had no clue. I called VW and they said take it to a dealer. The vehicle seems to be operating just fine.

My 04 UK Phaeton V10 has developed the following problem. 1 rear parking distance sensor is faulty (awaiting new part) but all was well even so until 3 days ago. Fault is as follows:
In reverse gear, displays 2 red lights in each corner, no sound, at any distance from an object. Place in drive, I get 2 green lights in both front displays which go away as normal.

I had just picked my kid up from school, as I turn out of the parking lot my A/C stops blowing cool air, I check the A/C screen and it still says it's set on High with temp at 68. However, it is blowing very low with warm air. Seconds later the dash lights up with numerous warning lights. I'm on the highway and I'm able to gather speed, but each time I do I hear the engine revving like crazy. We only live a few miles from the school so I am able to make it home. Once home, I turn off the car and turn it back on. The only warning lights displayed now are the red triangle and the yellow check engine light. I turn the car off, pop the hood, I check the belt and it was fine. I checked the oil and it seemed fine. I check the coolant overflow and it was empty.

We have a 04 Town and County with about 97,000 miles on it. If we are sitting still for a period of time, it will drop into limp mode. You actually hear a clunk, then the shift indicator lights up ever gear PRND, they all appear with a box around them as indicated. It happens more often if the AC is running. Actually at stop lights we turn the AC off. It happened in line at a drive in movie once. After it sits for a bit it is fine. No issues going down the road. But it seems to happen if there is not movement.

Feb. 2, 2010, I had my '04 Phaeton in for service (88,997 mi) because it would not start. After diagnosis, found faulty brake switch and shifter mechanism. Removed and replaced brake switch, shifter assy, and PRNDL sensor. On Feb. 17, '10, after I started car, it sounded like it was in wrong gear and all drives were lit on dash. Turned off, started again and everything was OK. Called service tech to let him know; he said he would notify mechanic.
On Fri., 19 Mar. '10 at around 2:15 p.m., was driving and noticed again that all drive lights were lit on dash. Pulled off road, turned off motor, started again, and everything seemed OK. Went farther down road, entered super highway, pressed accel. to pass tractor-trailer, only to notice all gears were again lit, as well as a new engine outline (in orange). As I was passing the truck, car surged forward and then made a loud clunk, I drove at 60 on the 70 mph rd. to get to rest area. Turned off motor, looked in manual and it stated car should be taken to dealer. Since it was still "drivable" and I didn't need a tow, I tried calling the dealer 4 times, but only got through to an answering machine. I decided to take car to dealer.
When I arrived, I spoke to the only service writer at the desk, and he was new. Told me they were too busy to take my car that day. I asked to speak to VW service manager, and he said I should not drive car. Car now has 91,509 mi.
I was wondering, why all gear lights keep coming on at the same time, and why the car feels like it has to shift to the next gear. I am thinking the repairs on Feb.2 were not complete.

I purchased a 2004 Chrysler Town & Country Dec 2003. I noticed an intermittent problem with my gear shift indicator lights PDRNL were all lighting up when I would start the vehicle in February 2004. I would have to play with the shift lever a few times to get it into gear.
On Feb 26, 2004 the vehicle would not start at all, would not even turn over. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. It had 3500 miles at the time. The error code was PO706 check shifter signal. They said it was the transmission range sensor and replaced it. I had no problems for 2000 miles until I was in northern Michigan and the gear shift indicator lights started doing the same thing.
I brought it to a local Chrysler dealership the next morning and they scanned the following codes PO1791 loss of prime PO705 check shifter signal BCM stored TCM message not received FCM stored TCM communication fault DSD stored incomplete power voltage. This dealership checked connections and wiring harness which were okay so advised me to take it back to my dealership at home since they would have to tear the whole van down to figure out what was wrong and any parts they would need would not get there before I left for home.
Luckily, I made it home with only one incident with these lights coming on. My dealership had the same error code PO706 and also PO444. Here is what their repair order states "DTC PO706 shift signal fault. Front pump allowing torque convertor to bleed down IPM internally shorted causing intermittent shift signal errors and PO444 and PO706. Scan and perform trans diag and fluid level full R & I the transmission R & I the pan and valve body replace the filter R & I the front pump and replace the front pump and torque convertor called STAR about intermittent loss of shift signal was told to replace the IPM. Replace the IPM (power distribution center) retest ok at this time."
So here is my question....I am very worried with all that I am reading about transmission problems and this van has only 6500 miles and all these parts that they have had to replace already is really scaring me!

Like the title says. 04 Explorer.
No transmission issues ever. Immediately after doing an oil change myself for first time, get some transmission dropouts, slipping out of gear at stop lights, waiting way too long to go into 2nd, etc.
Then, started getting OD off light, and service engine. Error codes show something about wrong setting for 2nd, 5th, solenoid error... a bunch of 'em.
Anyway, guy at parts store says I must have knocked a wire loose causing misreads between cpu and transmission. It's a real pain getting under there since I'm using jack stands, so exactly what I should be looking for or at least the exact name of a connector or something so I can look it up.

How can I disable or bypass the warning on the radio display everytime the auto is started? How do I disable the seatbelt warning bells?

I own 2006 vw passat 2.0T with 10-speaker dynaudio system. One day my sound disappeared completely, without any warnings. I found an amp 3C0-035-456-A under the driver seat. I tried to bypass amplifier directly to one of the speaker (midrange). the sound came on in that speaker. Which makes me believe that my amp died. On the other hand i checked the fuses and even voltages. Green connector to amp gets 3 rails 9 of voltage supply. Each of them measured as 2.8V, which doesn't add up to 12V no how.( so maybe its a voltage problem i'm not sure).

We buckle up, but the sound is annoying before we do. Its low if we turn on the music loud enough. Also, it would be very convenient if the sunroof had a rain sensor to close it. The windshield wipers sensors are not as useful especially because these wipers make too much noise.

Wife was driving her Lexus 2010 when she got the following warnings and took a picture (see below). It was freezing outside so that may have had something to do with this.
Drove car in morning to appointment (5 miles) no problem. Let sit for 2 hours (freezing weather). Drove back and encountered the warning below: Check AWD System, check engine light and traction control light. Roads were fine with no snow/ice. I checked code on car and it called out Cylinder 5 misfire. She encountered loss of power going up hill.
I cleared code and checked/replace front bank of plugs (Cylinders 2, 4, 6) with Denso #3426 (FK20HR11) - too difficult to replace others. Spark plugs looked decent minus some oil/gas on threads of plugs similar to what I saw on another posting that went through process of changing plugs. Car drove fine after (next 20 miles).

I have an ongoing issue with my 2007 LS460L. Sometimes when I start the car I get multiple warnings on the display and the car will not shift out of Park unless the override button is used. The window switches are disabled and the turn signals won't operate.
The car has had the issue since I purchased it used with 12,000 miles on it. But it has become a lot more frequent in the last couple of months. It seems to happen more often after being parked in the hot sun.
The dealer has been useless as far as finding the problem. It does not throw or store any codes. It only happens occasionally and never at the dealership. Usually I can restart the car after about 20 minutes or so and the problem has disappeared.

I noticed several times today, that the park assist gave false warnings when it was snowing lightly. the first time it happened, I stopped and got out to see if there was any snow accumulation on the bumper, and there was none.
Then later in the day, it happened several more times. the last time, only the two sets of red lights came on, without the yellow lights, and the beeper sounded briefly, and then it stopped again. And still there was not any snow on the bumper. Is it seeing snow flakes out there?
