2009 Prius bottomed out last week and twisted up the bracket that runs the exhaust system in the center of the car. Tore one side totally out of the frame. Consequently, exhaust now bumps and rattles on said bracket. I removed the bracket this morning to get a look.
View 2 RepliesI bought a tow hitch to put a carrier on the back of the vehicle for long trips where we might have 1 or 2 too many suitcases to fit inside.. I don't want the hitch on the vehicle for everyday driving which will be 99% of the time. It seem to me that if I could get the right size threaded studs I could just lift the hitch into place, tread on 4 bolts, and be done without having to take off the exhaust suspension bracket.

View 12 RepliesSo I finally decided to look into all the little creaks and rattles that the R makes while going over bumps in the road.
-Wrapped the latches of the rear seats in electrical tape, and put adhesive velcro (soft side) on the back of the seats where it meets plastic.
-Took apart the center console and put adhesive felt around the areas where plastic makes contact with other plastic
-Put adhesive felt inside the aluminum trim & Monsoon radio to stop shaking
So all those little fixes eliminated most of the rattling sounds in the car. All that I need to look into are the driver and passenger doors to secure whatever is rattling/shaking inside those panels. Something to do this coming week. I normally would leave these noises alone, but damn they drive me crazy like it's a form of Chinese water torture. I hope to have no more rattles in the following week.
Recently bought a CPO 2010 RX350 with 57k miles on it at a dealer on 8/30/14. Its developed quite a bit of interior rattles and creaks from what sounds like the structure over bumps and roads that aren't smooth. Plus the sunroof has a high frequency rattle. None of these were present during the test drive.
View 9 RepliesI notice the door rattles a lot now, more noticeably over bumps. Also, I don't really turn my music that loud, but when it is I can hear the rattle as well. Any quick fixs for this? Or would it be easier to get the dealer to try to fix this during my 5000 mile maintenance?

View 4 Replies2006 with 110K. I did a search for rattles. My question is do these struts have bushings or shims that wear out over time. Going down the road car is nice and quiet. Hit some bumps and it sounds like it is coming apart.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2001 excursion, v10 4x4 just bought it used thinking I scored until I drove it home (mostly noticeable on freeway, which I didn't do while on my test drive) the steering wheel stays straight, but the truck doesn't stay straight in the road lines,the car turns!! Feels real loose , I hear rattles, rattles going over bumps but mostly real slight uncontrolled steering and seems floaty. Is this a common problem? I did a little searching and found some posts about rattles but noble about sloppy steering.
View 8 RepliesWell, I had a friend put together my front brake rotor, now no more pulsating when coming to a stop, very smooth stop, new front brakes, had it aligned as well.. Also replaced the front shocks, however the passenger side came loose and rattles when going over bumps, speed bumps. I popped the hood, bounced my truck and could see it moving from left to right when bouncing front end of truck.
Question is, can i tighten it up myself, I dont have a jack, limited tools, I know, I know but i dont at the moment. My friend that worked on my truck lives a good drive and i hate to waste gas just for tightening something that should have been done but i have too, I will..
I noticed my 2014.5 camry has a loose driver's window. When rolled down between 2 to 6 inches, it rattles when driving over small bumps If I actually feel the window, it moves about 1/8 inch to the sides when open 2 to 6 inches. I mentioned this at my one year service. The tech showed me other 14.5 SE's they had the same problem only on the driver's window. He said the dealers can't do anything about it because it is how Toyota designed the cars.

I've had my exhaust installed for almost 6 months. About 2-3 months ago, I noticed a rattle from under the car somewhere. I finally got underneath the car a few weeks ago to check it out and the rattle is most definitely coming from the rear RSC muffler (right before the exhaust tips). I'm positive that's the source and I'm guessing that the welds inside for the baffles / walls that compose the RSC technology failed, and a piece is now rattling around inside. It only rattles at low RPM, but it's loud (especially in a parking garage) and super embarrassing.
I have a terrible rattle by my left ear whenever I drive over about 25MPH. It seems to be coming from in between the front and rear doors on the driver's side. I have banged around on the plastics but nothing seems to fix it. Should I just take this into a dealer?
View 5 RepliesMy wife has an 08 with a little over 50k miles. When under load (climbing a hill) with the AC on, the engine "rattles". This sounds like classic detonation to me. It stops when I turn off the AC or she lets off the gas. I have tried running several tanks of super unleaded with no improvement. I have searched here and checked a few things others have mentioned as well, such as a loose hood prop rod with no success.
The car just started doing this around 3-4k miles ago. Last week I changed the spark plugs, even though they are way under the mileage where I should change them. The plugs looked normal, a light tan color, with no unusual deposits or anything out of the ordinary. . Last night I checked and the engine coolant was a little low, so I topped it off. This had no effect as this afternoon on the way home I heard the same clatter when climbing a long hill. All this started back in march when the outside temps were still in the mid 80's... I wonder if it is possible that the pistons already have carbon at this low of mileage ?
I just had the Eurojet TBE installed and I notice the exhaust rattles loud at idle and startup... I want to say the piping is hitting something and causing this.... should i hang the exhaust higher.....
View 9 RepliesMy dad recently backed into my front right side. There was very little exterior damage but it still had a dent. I took out the dent and checked under for any visible damage and didn't see any. Over the past 3 months something has developed a little worse. It started as a small little crunch on the right side when going over speed bumps. Now on turning left hard or stuff like that and I hear it crunch. Its worse with more weight. It sounded like plastic but there's no loose plastic or anything. It's 05 Prius with 150k and I don't think there were any replaced shocks done. I bought it used.
View 5 RepliesYesterday I was driving the prius when I came to stop for a red light there was a man hole cover that was sunken into the ground fairly deep and when the prius went over it while I was braking I lost braking power for maybe .5 of a second and the traction control light kicked on. This has happened a few times but this time was the worst, is this normal for an 06 prius or should I get it checked out? This NEVER happened in florida we just moved to chattanooga (roads are terrible) the car is also not enjoyable to drive here there are too many tight corners/bumpy roads I'm really thinking about selling it for a larger car that can handle the roads here better. My gti also never does this going over the same bumps/manhole covers.

View 4 RepliesI had the front struts replaced. I looked at the strut diagram and replaced most of the parts associated with the front struts. The rear shocks were also replaced. New brakes were installed on the front and rear. The front rotors were replaced. Mileage 124000 miles.
I thought this would might solve the squeaking when I went over a speed bump in the parking lot. It did not. How to fix the squeaking.
Trying to pull the passenger side axle off my 2004 3.3 SE Camry. The whole hub assembly is out of it so I have some room to work.
I can not get the axle carrier /bearing bracket off. This is the bracket that bolts to the block. The c-clip snap ring thing is removed from the the bearing carrier.
So I am jerking on the CV with a slide hammer, numerous times. Not sure if there has been any movement.
Any secrets? Does transmission have to be in neutral to release the axle from tranny or anything like that?
