Prius (2004-09) :: Beep After Letting Up On Brake
Oct 22, 2014
Last week my 2008 Prius started making a faint beep each time I let up on the brake after a stop when I remove my foot off the brake. It also will make this faint beep when I let up on the brake even if the engine is not on. It is faint, nothing as loud as the beeps for seat belts or backup. The Prius is not experiencing any warning lights or any other noticeable problem and is running great.

10 days ago I bought my '05 Prius to the dealership to get the Brake Recall fix along w/ an oil change and inspection. Since then I took a road trip and put about 1,000 miles on. Two days ago, when pulling up to my house, I got a beep and warning message, since I was home I parked and decided to worry about it later.
The next morning the car turned on but would not move (crawled a bit forward and reverse but was basically dead). I checked the meaning of the warning light and its the Hybrid Systems Warning Light. From the information screen it appears the battery is drained and therefore electric motor won't function.
Of course I'm worried its the expensive battery dying on me but would this happen all at once or slowly over time? Unfortunately I'm at 117,000 mi so the system is out of warranty. My next thought was that something they had with the brake recall may have caused the problem (though it would seem odd it'd take 10 days to happen).

I started my 05 prius this morning, and it starts up and is running in normal time. But there's a constant long beep tone that doesn't shut off and after it starts it shoves the break pedal back out while my foot is still trying to keep it depressed. There's a brake light that is on after, but no error icon on the display. I didn't try driving it to see if it lets me, because of something possibly wrong with the brakes. What might cause this?

I have an 06 Prius. I bought it with a broken/leaking transmission about 3 months ago. I drove the car home and it sat for a few months, then I drove it into my garage to start working on it a few weeks ago. I just finished up with the trans swap this evening and I went to "start" the car to get the coolant circulating/blead, and the car would not start. I get nothing, I just get a blinking red light in the shape of a car with a key in the center.
I am pretty sure this is the immobilizer symbol. What can I do to reset/fix this? This is my first prius and I have not driven this one more than 50 miles so it could be something silly that I am just not familiar with. This is what I am doing...I get in the car, put the key in the key slot, and I push the brake, then I hit the power button...I get nothing, other than the blinking light on the dash.
I went back out to the car and messed around a little bit. When I put the key in the slot I get what I described above...nothing. But if I don't put the key in the slot, and just push the power button the display comes on but I am not able to shift into any thing other than park or neutral. When I am able to power up with out the key in the slot I get a red car with an explanation point going through it at the top left of the screen.
Then at the display just below the windshield most of the lights stay lit up. What does this point towards? Why would the car not try to go into Drive or Reverse? And what's going on with my key? The only two times I have driven this car i just put the key in the slot and it turned right on and I drove away, now with the key in it will not do anything.

I was driving on the freeway when I hear a beep then the red triangle, brake, VSC, and check engine lights light up. It still ran well but whenever i step on the break a continuous beep comes on and the word "brake" comes on but disappears when I let go of the brake.

Had this issue with my Kia Optima 2013 pertaining to the brake pedal, now with my 14 Sonata Limited. When in stop and go traffic, parking lot driving, or pulling into the garage that requires a lighter touch on the brake pedal, the pedal has a creaking feel to it, like when closing a creaky door. I can make this happen of course when I push the brake pedal slowly with my hand. This also happens when letting up on the pedal slowly/lightly. Kind of annoying, but the brakes work just fine and dandy

I have started to notice one beep when I turn off the car. This doesn't happen all the time, but it appears to be happening more often. There are no unusual displays and the car runs fine.

My 06 Prius with 130k miles just starting to briefly (1-2 seconds) show "PROBLEM" on the MFD and beep and sometimes show a red triangle.
This only happens when I am going down hill on a tight curve when going fast. This never happens going up hill (since I am generally going slower) nor on flat roads. Since this is my normal commute road and I have not changed the way I drive for several years, I am surprised that this is now occuring.
Some possible theories: oil is low - I will checksome level sensor is complaining? some tire rotation sensor is complaining?

Is there any way to make my Prius beep on lock? I know some friends who own Prius and theirs do it, so it is doable. Is there any sequence of buttons you press on the remote that turns it on and off? I bought it used so I suspect that the previous owner turned it off or something.

The car was locked and parked. But the beep you also have when the seatbelt reminder is on when driving was beeping ( at that same speed really fast beeping when you do not put your seatbelt on after a while it starts to beep really fast ). I unlocked the car and open the door and it kept beeping... now of course I can hear it even better.. it was indeed the inside beep.... I closed the door and wanted to lock the door again but before i could press the button it locked itself.... I opened and locked the car again.. after a few seconds it stopped.....

So my understanding is that the Gen II does not have a warning light that you have left your headlights on because they lights have an auto off after 30 seconds? Well one night in a rush I left my lights on for about an hour (they did not turn off) and I came out to a dead battery. I guess my question is: Do I have a warning beep that is broke? Or is my auto off feature broke?

I have a 08 prius and every now and then when I shut off the car I hear the tiniest little beep and I can't figure out what it is. It isn't my FOB as I've already had that beep and fixed it over the summer. It has been going off and on for the last 2-3 months, I can't make it happen on purpose so the dealership thinks I'm losing my mind and no its not my cell phone beeping either. It is definitely the prius beeping ...

Is it possible for me to enable the beep when locking the car?
The manual says it should be there by default so I expect that it has been turned off. If it is a short beep, I would like to have it back.
Will I be able to do this once I get my SG2 working with my 2007 Prius (European) ?

I've searched for this issue and haven't found a thing.

Gen II? My 2004 will occasionally beep from the dash after shut down (until I close the door). If I ignore the beep, close the door and walk away, the next morning it will need a jump start!
My dealer said it was because I was shutting down before putting it in Park. I always thought Park was unnecessary. Anyway, I got in to the habit of putting it in Park every time before shutdown, and still sometimes I get the dash beeping when I open the door.

It's been my goal to get my car to run a 13 on the stock turbo for years. I got bored last night and decided to roll out to the track and finally did it. In the past I had tried just about everything, pulled the back seats out, ditched the spare, and hours of data logging timing trying to dial it in just right but never could. Of course last night I was running with a full interior, spare and even had a passenger with my timing still pulled back -2.25 deg from the summer heat, didnt even check my oil or air pressure and I pull this off
R/T: .498
60': 2.147
1/8: 8.983@79.47mph
1/4: 13.818@102.59mph
Only problem is this was really my only goal for the car so I dont know wtf to do now??

I am hearing a single BEEP, about every 4 minutes, when I am driving. What the heck is it? I can't figure it out, looked in the Manual.
I found the Internal Alarm on Page 432, don't think it is that. The key is in my pocket, the car is on, I am driving! I've also removed the key from my pocket and set it on the front passenger seat, darn BEEP continues.

2002 camry: my boyfriend just told me he accidentally added power steering fluid to the brake reservoir a couple monthes ago....while i floored it on highway, i only reached 40, when let off gas, car came to a quick stop. later i jacked up rear and was able to turn back tires to rule out e-brake being stuck, when car is in nuetral and pushed (forward or backward) it comes to a stop whithin a foot or so ( it seemed like the brakes were being depressed) possible transmission or brake issue?

Recently, my 2007 Prius will make a "BEEP" when I press the POWER button to shut down the vehicle. This doesn't happen all the time, but only 1 out of 25 times or so. Other than the beep, I can't seem to figure out what's wrong. Everything seems to work as normal.

I have a 2008 fully loaded Prius.
Keyless entry. it will not lock but pressing the black nubs or via either set keys. It some times beeps or does nothing.
I verified all doors are closed and there is no door open light on the dash. Every time I exit the car the car gives 3 beeps and the key light on the dash flashes.

Sometimes (but not always!) when I turn my Prius (2008) off and open the driver door, there is a constant beep. There are no interior lights left on. I think whatever I am doing wrong might be draining the 12v battery as it keeps going flat.
