Prius (2004-09) :: Alarm Keeps Going Off
Jul 5, 2012
My Prius alarm keeps going off. Only way to turn off is to put fob in car and start. Is there a fuse I can pull or a wire I can cut? I don't have the $ to get the alarm fixed.

View 3 RepliesLast night my alarm (honnking horn, lights flashing) went off when my 07 Prius was sitting in the garage with the garage door closed. The only way to stop the alarm was to start the car and leave it running.
At 4:00 this morning it went off again. The only thing I can find amiss is that the battery icon on the main screen registered very low (two purple bars).
I have an issue, and I don't know if it's kids, animals, or the car itself. Last night it happened at 3am, tonight I'm sitting on the couch at 12.30am and it just went off again....
I don't see anyone out there around the car, not sure I saw anything last night either. Is there a cause for this? I just replaced my 12v battery in March, have a dead FOB smart key in a fire box (it's up on top of everything in the box). My current key was lying flat on the bench, nothing on top of it.
I have a 2004 Prius with 191K miles. When purchased in November of 2008 the 12V battery was replaced (mileage at the time was 70K). Over the last 2 weeks my alarm has been going off daytime, nightime with no regularity.
I have replaced the battery in the FOB (I only have one) and did this yesterday. Last night the alarm went off 4 times between 11pm and 1am until I disconnected the 12V battery.
Just woken up for the 8th time to the sound of my Prius alarm system sounding. It's an EU prius with the default alarm in it and every time it goes in for a service I tell them about the problem. They tell me they have lowered the activation threshold. I never notice any improvement.
A few questions
1. Is there any adjustable 'activation threshold' on the prius alarm system or are they just fobbing me off?
2. I have pro-tem half solved the problem by removing the fuse that leads to the horn. However a second siren still sounds despite the horn not souding. Where is this siren speaker located as I intend to disconnect that too.
A few observations.
1. It is almost impossible to get the alarm to go off deliberty, such as by waving hands around inside the veh, trying door handles, rocking the veh, hitting the glass, etc. For that reason, I am not sure I believe therefore that it is an intermittent sensor issue as I have "banged every door" so-to-speak.
2. I have checked the battery level and while all the readings are a bit on the low side, ultimately all the results are within the recommended thresholds as defined elsewehre on this site. With that said the car is 4 years old, could the battery be malfunctioning in other ways?
3. Pressing the button under the steering column does not affect whether the alarm activates or not.
How do I disable the backup alarm on the Generation II Prius?
View 2 RepliesI have 2004 prius, 100,400 miles. No problems ever and all of a sudden, driving as usual, vsc, brake, !, and alarm buzzer on the entire time car is running or door opens. Brake seems harder to stop now. Right rear wheel is grinding when brakes are applied. jerks a bit at slow stops.
View 19 RepliesMy Prius alarm goes off with no reason day and night. I did check everything like door and hatch back, they are properly closed and nothing could have caused the alarm to go off. I brought my car for checking but what the mechanic can do is just set the horn off, they couldn't find the cause.
View 12 RepliesMy 2005 Prius is 6 and a half years old and I have encountered a problem with an outside alarm that is one beep about 2 seconds long. I have checked my manual and I have found two possibilities, but, they don't seem to apply. Last week was the first time I had to go in and reset my maintenance needed reminder because my service station forgot to reset it after the last oil change. I am afraid in the severel attempts to do this I might have reset something else as well!
The outside 2 second beep occurs when the car is in my garage and the car is NOT locked. It also only occurs if I am outside of the car and have the key fob with me. It happens with either key fob near the car. If I lock the car I don't have a problem. It is as if everytime I come near the car with my key fob that it is reminding me that the car is unlocked.
I have a 2006 with 155k miles. I took it into the dealer for a mini service this week. Drove home after the service was complete, then drove to work yesterday. On the way home an alarm sounded and the red triangle light with !, the break system light (O) with !, the VSC light and the engine CHECK light came on.
A friend used his scanner to read the error code for me and it reported a "p0a80" code. What does this code mean? Replace the hybrid battery?
I'm a new Prius owner (<1 month) and have a hopefully easy problem to solve.
View 7 RepliesTwo days ago, my horn began honking for no reason...as if the anti theft alarm was going off. I was able to shut it off only by putting the key in its ignition. Last night, the possession by the devil was complete and at 10:30pm, my car began to honk (same as before) incessantly... and I wasn't able to turn it off. This happened about 5 time within 30 minutes. I tried to disconnect the battery but of course, the Prius designers placed the battery in a location that makes it impossible to disconnect. Why this horn malfunction is occurring?
View 5 RepliesI bought a 2007 Prius this week and I am having trouble with the door lock/unlock procedure. I have read and re-read the manual and feel I am doing everything correctly. What is happening is I can lock the car, either with the push button on the handle or with the key fob. When I return to unlock the car 2 things may happen. Either I get within 2 feet of the car and the alarm goes off or I can get close enough to touch the door handle and then the alarm goes off. Either way, I then have to use the fob to turn off the alarm noise and then I can unlock the car. All rather embarrassing and I'm getting tired of looking like an idiot! The worst part is when I was back at the used car dealer briefly yesterday and went to show him the problem, it behaved perfectly which was the only time it worked ever for me. I have tried both of my key fobs and the same thing happens with both of them.
View 13 RepliesMy 2008 Prius (111,000 miles) had all the panel alarm lights go on and lost power while I was driving on the freeway. After turning off the vehicle and letting it “rest” for 10 minutes, it restarted with only the red triangle alert light remaining on and was able to drive to my dealer service (about 40 miles) with no incident. The diagnostic code indicates that the inverter has failed, but the technicians are not able to confirm that this is the problem, since the system is now running. I was able to drive it home with no problems or warning lights. As this is a $4,000 part, I would like to know if this is a likely, or even possible, scenario for an inverter failing, or could it be another problem? Note: 3 months ago the auxiliary battery was replaced following the same circumstances.
View 13 RepliesNew 2015 Mercedes E350 wagon ..... The day after I took delivery, I tried to open the new wagon's doors (it has a keyless feature) and nothing happened. I tried again and still nothing happened. I then took the smartkey out of my pocket and tried to click open the locks and nothing happened. I then took the ancillary key out of the smartkey and unlocked the car manually. This set off the alarm which would only stop when I closed the door and relocked the car.
Also, the car would not start. It was like I had broken in to the car. A few minutes later, while waiting for roadside assistance to speak with me, I tried the door handle again and discovered that the doors would now open keylessly. I have driven the car several times since the incident (which occurred yesterday) and it has not repeated the problem. What caused the problem? Is this a one time glitch or am I in danger of being stranded somewhere?
So I had my hood open to check my oil, not a big deal for a 2001 Jetta 1.8t. When I shut the hood, the car decided to simultaneously lock, and now the horn/alarm is going off and the key fob won't unlock the car or disable the alarm. And the keys don't work in the door/trunk so I can't get inside. What I should do?
View 5 RepliesHow good the alarm on a B6 is. I mean, it goes off when the doors are opened and the alarm is on...but how easy is it to steal a Passat.
I wanna put a navi in and do a few things...but I just don't feel ok doing them and knowing I don't have a GREAT alarm.
My friend is having issues with her FOB key. At first it was just extra sensitive. It would go off when it was in her pocket. Now it has gotten to where the alarm goes off when she takes the FOB key out of the slot and shuts the door. She has checked the key and car battery and also the sunglasses holder doesn't have anything in it. I hear that there is a sensor by it.
View 5 RepliesCar alarm go off right after starting the car? And if so what is the best way to turn off alarm without turning the car off?
View 7 Repliesi have a 2003 gx470 the last couple of nights the alarm has been going off by its self first i thought it might be just the cat or something but no in the early mornings around 3am and 5 am its been going off i would turn it off lock it and about 5 mins later it would go off again does it about 2-3 times also i tried leaving it unlocked and still does it and it only seems to go off in the early morning as i said and doesn't go off all day what it could be maybe a short in the alarm or something?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2003 GX and, last night, the alarm kept going off. I've had the truck for about 6 months now and not had this problem before.
I'm wondering if maybe a switch on one of the doors is having a problem. Why? Well, my boys have their baseball stuff in the back (fall ball here in FL) and, if it's pushing against the back door, the light inside will come on under acceleration. Seems like maybe it pushes against the door just enough to make the switch think the door is open.
Last night was the first, "cold," night here in FL we've had since I got it (got down into the mid-50s--I know it's all relative). I wonder if it's causing the door to not push the switch in enough.
I'm totally guessing on this one. I only suspect the good switch because of the problem I had with it and the light coming on before.
