Prius (2004-09) :: Alarm Goes Off For No Reason
May 23, 2010
Last night my alarm (honnking horn, lights flashing) went off when my 07 Prius was sitting in the garage with the garage door closed. The only way to stop the alarm was to start the car and leave it running.
At 4:00 this morning it went off again. The only thing I can find amiss is that the battery icon on the main screen registered very low (two purple bars).

My Prius alarm goes off with no reason day and night. I did check everything like door and hatch back, they are properly closed and nothing could have caused the alarm to go off. I brought my car for checking but what the mechanic can do is just set the horn off, they couldn't find the cause.

I have a 2007 F-150 FX2 and as of 8-10 months ago I started having the security alarm go off for no reason. I thought maybe I sat on the fob or something stupid but it is getting to be more often. The truck sat at the dealership for 2 days last week and nothing. They decided after lightly bumping the grille and it went off the sensitivity was too low so adjusted that up to a reasonable bump required. Well it went off last night at 1:30 AM, so I don't know what to do now. The service writer did say he had seen this and it was always a door sensor but having 4 doors which one??

My Passat alarm went off last night for no apparent reason. Car had been parked for a few days. The engine started whilst the alarm was sounding. The interior lights were flashing and the electric window stayed down and wouldn't go up. Needed to drop it to see to get the car in the barn away from the neighbours house as the windows were frosted over. Disconnected battery and the alarm finally stopped. Tonight I reconnected the battery and it locked me out. I realised later that there's a procedure to go through after reconnecting the battery but foolishly I cut the wires to the alarm, which didn't stop it. It was getting the horses in the barn wound up and I needed to stop it. What caused the initial alarm? ECU fault? It's a '99 V6 TDi.

I have an 07 Camry and the alarm keeps going off for no apparent reason. Is there anyway to reset the alarm system itself? If so how and what do I need to do? How to do this.

I've had an intermittent problem with my factory alarm going off for no reason at all. I replaced the Courtesy light switch on the driver's side hoping to stop my problem. Earlier I found the connector was barely on the button switch and after discovering that I thought the problem would stop. I feel like this car is possessed!

Just yesterday my alarm went off. I thought maybe it was because a cycle went by with loud pipes, but I disarmed, opened the door, re-armed and it went off again about 10 minutes later.
Last night it went off/on for about 2 hours every 10 minutes when locked and armed/disarmed. The last time I went out, disarmed it, left it unlocked and started walking away when it went off. Scared the hell outta me at 3am. What the problem could be?

I recently (August 2014) purchased a 2010 Ford Escape, with only 16,500 miles. I was told the previous owner had only had the car for 6 months, she had purchased it from their dealership but wanted to trade it in on another (Chevy) car because the alarm kept going off for no reason. (She was a nurse and while at work, at the hospital, the alarm would just go off and disturb everyone - and especially her! -- So the dealer said they had taken it to a Ford dealer and they couldn't make it go off, so they thought it might be the keys. So my salesman said they had new keys made for the vehicle and it hadn't had the trouble anymore. We bought the SUV. The first night home, the horn starts blowing at 3 in the morning - while the car is sitting in our garage!! and it has gone off several times while I've been at work. I've had it to my local Ford dealer and they thought it might be a back door latch, but can't tell which one. What should I do? Have all the door latches changed? Or could it be something else???

My alarm went off for no explainable reason today. My car is parked in front of my house and all of a sudden I hear an alarm going off. Now, I've never heard my own alarm so I wasn't even aware it was mine until it kept going and I realized it might be mine. So I went to look out the window and I couldn't decipher where the sound was coming from because there's a lot of cars around here
So for the heck of it, I grabbed my fob and kept pressing buttons to see if it would go off. I was so flustered and nothing went off so I thought it wasn't mine. Then I held down the red button and it finally went off.
Does it mean someone tried to open my door? What warnings should I look for on the dash when I go in there for the first time after shutting off the alarm?

I have an 03 JETTA TDI 5 SPEED WAGON with 216 on it. The parking brake alarm recently came on for no reason (as did the warning light) As soon as you move 50' it starts and wont stop until you stop the vehicle. I pulled the center console, unplugged the switch and it still did it. I jumped the 2 wires together and it still did it! I cut the wires at the point where they disappeared into the larger harness, it still did it!!! Why this is happening and if there is something besides the switch at the park brake lever that make the alarm go off?

My new to me 1998 F150XLT has a strange problem. The alarm seems to go off whenever it feels like it. Sitting in front of the house (3 times), on the ferry boat with me in the cab with the key in the ignition (once), at the store (once) and once at my nieces house. This all in the last 2 weeks. Shuts right off when you hit the reset button, well except on the boat, the remote would not work at all (no door locks, nothing), but then the guy next to me had the same issue with his remote for his Honda. Had to used the key in the door to shut it down. I suspect that was an radio interference issue with the ferry's diesel/electric drive system as soon as I got off the boat he remote worked again. Is there a sensitivity adjustment on it or what. The 1995 Explorer sits right next to the F150 at the house and it never does this.

Having an interesting issue with my 2013 Elentra Limited ....
A couple times now the factory alarm will start going off by for no reason. This was confirmed by my neighbor, who was sitting outside when it started going off the last time with nobody around it. Also, when this happens, the alarm button the on key fob will not stop the alarm, only unlocking the car will stop it.
Also, after this happens, I can no longer set the alarm (pressing the lock button twice and hearing the car honk once) for usually at least a few hours if not a day. what happens is that i press the lock button and you hear the doors lock but if you keep hitting the lock button, the doors just keep locking, the car never honks.

I recently bought the Santa Fe Sport 2017 model. The alarm just keeps going off for no apparent reason. It seems like any wind or a car driving on a street will set it off. Is there a place where the alarm sensitivity can be adjusted?

I've been having problems with my keyless entry. On two occasions (the last one while I was driving it)the alarm goes off without any apparent reason. Tried replacing battery in remote. In addition, sometimes the keyless entry does not seem to lock or unlock the car on the first try. Is this the remote or the system with in the car?

I have a 2007 Ford Taurus, the factory car alarm goes off without any apparent reason. It had been a garaged car but has been sitting outside for about the last 10 months. It started doing this in May so I thought it might be heat related due to the high temps we have been experiencing in the midwest??
Sometimes when I get home from work around 5:30pm it will go off within 5 minutes of me getting home. Then other times it will wait until 2 or 3am. I can't lock my doors in my driveway anymore or my neighbors are going to come over and tear the horn completely out.

I have a 2008 Elantra SE. The anti theft alarm gets triggered for no reason on occasion. At first I thought it was only on rainy days, but now it happens in full sun as well.
I don't need the alarm, as nobody pays attention to them anyway. Is there a fuse I can remove to disable it?

My truck was sitting in front of the house, unlocked and the alarm disarmed. For no apparent reason, the alarm on the truck went off. I tried pressing both arm and disarm button on the FOB and the alarm would not shut off. I opened the door, started the engine and the alarm immediately turned itself off. I need to look in the manual and see if there is any condition that would cause that particular event. Strange to say the least.

I have noticed a significant (15 to 20%) drop-off in mpg in the last 6 months or so. My 2006 prius at 95,000 miles is just short of the warranty on the battery pack. I brought it into the dealership and they ran the routine computer diagnostics and said everything looks good. I fully expected them to tell me that the performance on the battery pack had fallen off, so I was a bit put out. The guy actually got a bit defensive with me when I asked him some further questions about what the criteria are for determining whether the battery back was performing as it is supposed to in order to get the maximum MPGs.

I changed bad combination meter today and I noticed that everything works fine but the fuel gauge is blinking with all the bars! After a few miles the fuel gauge is still blinking but now with less than a half of deposit, I filled the entire deposit yesterday. Maybe is a consequence of changing the combination meter? Should I reset the fuel gauge or reconnect the 12v battery?
