Smart key not smart anymore, it won't start the car unless I inserted the remote unit to the key slot underneath the steering column.
Smart key works with doors, trunk.
1. checked the Smart Function is On (KEY button not depressed)
2. Change new 3V battery inside the remote
I had my car serviced a few weeks ago and realized that one of my Smart Keys (the one I was using when I drove to the dealership) no longer works with the car. It won't unlock the doors or start the car (neither wirelessly nor when plugged in to the dash). The other fob works fine. Are there any scenarios where a Smart Key fob gets rejected from the system?
View 5 RepliesI have a 2007 Prius. Last night, my neighbor said he thought he heard my car alarm going off. I used my car fob to turn the alarm on then off to ask him if that's what he'd heard, and it wasn't. Seems he mistook someone else's car for mine.
Today, I find my car's smart key functionality is limited. I can keep the keys in my pocket and still unlock and lock the doors, but the engine won't turn on, instead displaying the key symbol on the dashboard; I need to insert the fob into the slot instead. None of the buttons (lock, unlock, alarm) on the fob work. The smart key button under the wheel is protruding, as I believe it should.
All of a sudden, my 2008 prius, basic package without the smart entry system, stopped locking or opening the doors when i pressed the button.
At first i thought it must be a dead battery, so i replaced it with a new one and got the exact same behavior. i checked the old battery and it was still giving off 3 volts as was the new one when i checked that with a volt meter. when i press any of the buttons on the key, a small led light goes on and on the dashboard a picture of a key lights up briefly. the owner's manual does not show the key as a warning light.
Car worked fine yesterday. Today, I walk to my car, unlock the doors, lights work but engine won't crank. just a few very light clicks (3 -5 clicks quickly, wasn't really counting, a relay? solenoid? )
Lights work, horn works radio works. try to unlock the rear doors with the remote, but it won't. Try to open trunk with remote and it works.
Call roadside assistance, attach a battery jumper to the battery and same thing. engine doesn't crank, windows won't roll down, doors won't unlock or lock. but trunk works. radio works, lights work.
I wanted to think starter or starter solenoid but the issues with the door and windows have me puzzled. Its a 2001.5 passat v6, 5 speed, engine light is not on.
Possible to unlock ALL doors when using the smart key?

Is there a way to get all the doors to unlock when you pull the handle instead of just the drivers door unlock. I frequently travel with a passenger and it would be nice to not have to unlock my door first, and then bend over and click the unlock button inside.

View 19 RepliesI have this problem with both the key fobs provided with my 2007 UK spec. Santa Fe 2.2crdi: The fob works only intermittently to lock/unlock the doors. I have replaced the CR2032 batteries, and the red light on the fob works as well. Is there a sensor that needs cleaning/adjusting?
View 1 RepliesI recently purchase an 07 prius and now the AC only works If I disconnect the small battery at the back and reconnect. It worked fine when I first got It, but after dealing with no AC I decided to try disconnecting the battery and It works. The problem Is when I stop at a light a red triangle shows up on the dash board and If I turn off the car I would have to disconnect and reconnect the battery In order for It to work.

I can get in using the small metal key, the car starts and everything seem to be working fine with the smart key plugged in. The 12v battery seems to be fine as all the lights work when the car is off. What this might be?

View 3 RepliesI just bought a 2012 toyota camry se with smart key. The trunk button on the remote opens the trunk, but the smart key button on the trunk lid does not open the trunk. I found a brown module unplugged the the left of the seat release handles in the trunk, I checked the wiring to the switch on the trunk lid.
View 7 RepliesI just purchased a 2005 F150 (4.6L / 4 door). The lot I purchased it from had picked it up at auction. Tell-Tell signs indicate it was a repo. (Only one key, no fobs, locking fuel filler door jimmied and spring removed, scratches on upper corner of driver's side door and rubber bent back.
The power locks switch on arm rest works on all doors except driver's. The drivers door does lock and unlock manually. I am wanting a good hypothesis before I begin tearing into the door panel.
If the latching mechanism was damaged, it wouldn't lock manually, right? If the electronics were damaged the other doors wouldn't work right? So, my hypothesis is the actuator on driver's door. Do I start searching for/locating possible replacement parts?
Prius owner, Just bought it 3 days ago! 2007 no nav system, but the key fob is the silver logo and has the key button on the lower dash...so I assume it is a smart key system. However, the key fob will not unlock or lock the car, the panic button doesn't work either. The car will only start with the fob in the slot.
Why will it start the car only in the slot? I changed the battery out in the fob and it still didn't lock/unlock. I didn't try the smart key start with the new battery...I don't even know if I have a smart start. Why does it not open/lock the car?
I heard a humming (motor) sound coming from my trunk area today. Car was off since previous evening. Sounded like maybe electric fuel pump? It stopped when I pressed smart key button and is not doing it now, but......
View 14 RepliesI have a 2004 Ford F150 and the battery keeps dying. We do not use the truck a lot and it sometimes sits outside for 2-4 weeks without being used. If it sits that long, it might be completely dead, but starts up easily with a jump and then works fine for a while. The battery is a 650 amp Motocraft w prorated replacement from 37-100 mo. The local Ford dealer has checked it several times in the past 2 yr and said it is fine, and that if the truck sits for a couple of weeks the battery will die. Is that right? I am not a car moron, nor am I an expert, but I am concerned that they are missing a small draw somewhere in the system. Should I be concerned about a draw or is this just something that happens to batteries as they get older?
View 2 Repliesrecently the remote locking buttons have been acting weird. The locking system itself may be to blame but let me elaborate. Lately I've been trying to lock the car with the remote, but sometimes it will beep once, lock the car, then immediately unlock it. This will repeat if I try it over again. If the car is locked, the remote at times will not unlock the car and twice I've had to manually unlock it.

When I use my key to unlock the car door, I can turn the key and get all the dash lights but I don't hear a sound.
When I use the remote unlock, and try the same thing, my car starts. Is this a problem with the security system?
I have a Prius i-Tech 2007. I had gone overseas and came back after 2 weeks. On return, the smart key just didn't work. It didn't open the door...I took out the mechanical key and opened the door. Then I inserted the key in the key slot and tried to start the car but it just didn't react at all.
View 3 RepliesHave a chance at a 2006 Gen2 wreck for parts or repair. It was towed home by a tow truck with wheel lift. Owner isn't sure where the Smart Key is. Daughters' car and tow truck co. nor daughter are sure what happened to Smart Key. Car doors and some windows are open.
Now, I assume that if the Smart Key isn't in the car, then it will be locked in Park and steering locked as well. (I'm presently driving a 2002 classic and not sure if the steering locks on Gen2s when smart key is removed.)
I only have a dolly or a trailer with ramps. Either way I need to find a way to get out of park and unlock the steering. I haven't inspected the vehicle in person but figure if the accessory battery is dead, I could jumper at the terminals under the hood.
