I have an 07 Prius and the headlights started going out so I bought new HID D4R bulbs and they do the same thing. I want to replace the ballasts. How to do this? Any thing special about it?

View 6 RepliesSo I started having the issue with my drivers side headlight going out and saw the many threads regarding issues with the bulbs and ballast.
I started out purchasing a new bulb, from ebay TOYOTA PRIUS GENIUNE PART PHILIPS D4R 42406 XENON HID HEADLIGHT LIGHT LAMP OEM
Came in "Toyota" box. Got the bulb in and still had issues with the light turning off... so then I bought the after market ballast and replaced it yesterday. Light still going off.... What to check? Just read the article regarding bulbs, going to pull out the one I just got and have a better look at it.... Not all HID Bulbs are created equal.
I can't seem to find definitive information on this subject.
View 5 RepliesSo I bought two new HID bulbs for my 2007 prius. Mostly it had been the left one that turned off after a while. So i put a new bulb in and it goes out after about 10 seconds. So i put the other new bulb in and it goes out after 10 seconds too.
View 4 RepliesI just recently bought a 2007 priuswith 77k miles and really love it and just 3 days ago installed the EV switch (manual button, not the coastal one) because of my plans to get it to plug in in the near future, and it worked very nice until today. No matter what i do and when i press it, it just keeps saying "Cannot change to ev mode now" doesn't matter if i push it before the ICE warmup or after. its in the range where it should be working like plenty of battery, not pushing the accelerator at any time, under 34mph, and not while the ICE is running....it was in the mid 80's today which is cooler than last 2 days. I'm just not sure what to do anymore...I do have a check engine light on for 02 sensor but it has been on since I bought the car.
View 11 RepliesSo I recently got a 9006 8000k HID Kit off of E - bay and I'm planning on installing it in place of the stock HIDs. However , I just realized that the stock HIDs have a D4S ballast and connector which do not fit the 9006 HID kit that I just got.
So should I remove the old D4S ballast and put in the new kit, or buy D4S bulbs that fit the stock ballast ? Also, the driver side headlight is flickering and goes out at times so I don't know if the stock ballast is acting up.
Here is the story, My HID headlights at 45k miles started to flicker and within seconds turn off. My only solution was to turn the lights on/off but the problem would constantly reoccur.
After calling the dealership and speaking to the morons there, I decided to replace the bulbs myself. I successfully replaced both hid headlight bulbs and the bulbs seemed to work perfectly. Sadly, the next day I realized that bulbs would still go out, sometimes the left side, sometimes the right side, sometimes both sides.
Relatively new Prius owner. I have a 2007 Touring model. I have two concerns I'm hoping some veterans can address for me.
1. I noticed last night that my left HID headlight turns off randomly (I saw it in the reflection of the car in front of me). I turned off the lights and turned them back on, and the headlight was working again for about 5 minutes before turning off again. This consistently happens so I'm pretty much driving with only one headlight on. The right headlight isn't having this problem, luckily.
Looks like Toyota had a settlement over the issue. I would post a link but since I'm a new users it's not allowing it.
2004 W12 Phaeton ... I remove the Air Filter cover and filter, I am not sure if the round fixture on the Air Filter housing is the headlight fixture or how to remove and replace it. I am able to move it inward and outward, but not able to remove. should I remove the Air Filter housing to get to the bulb??

View 8 RepliesWe had what seemed like a normal situation with the driver's side burning pink for a minute then going out. I thought it was the bulb, purchased the bulb and the light burned bright, though more yellow than the typical light blue, and then went out.
I replaced the Ballast with a different one, and got the same effect. The HID lights, burns OK for about 20 seconds, starts to pulse a little then shuts off.
I have a 2007 F150 XL that has the power windows and locks, I have the sensor on the dash for the auto headlights so I'm curious if I just need the auto headlight switch for this to work on my truck. I need to remove the headlight switch so I can try to connect the DB/OG and the DB/WH wires to see if this will make the circuit complete for the auto headlights. Anyway, I don't have a manual. How to remove the switch so I can get at the wires?

View 14 RepliesI have a 2007 base model and for the last two months I keep getting three beeps and on the mfd shows up "Cannot Change to EV Mode Now". I haven't done any mods to the car. It seems to happen during the first couple of miles after start up, but it also happens when I need a little extra power to pass a car on the highway or if I've been coasting for a few seconds and then hit the accelerator again. I live in Atlanta and the temps have been 60-80 degrees for the last few months, so it's not getting to hot / cold.
This might be a coincidence, but it seemed to have started doing this after my last emissions test. The gentleman who did the test acted like he had never seen a prius before and took him a good 10 minutes to hook up his equipment. As this is going on, he proceeds to touch all kind of buttons on the MFD and got to screens I have never seen before. It wasn't until a younger co-worker came over and showed him how to hook it up that he stopped messing with buttons. My question is, could he have done anything on the screen that would cause the issues I'm having.
So I bought a set of Phillips XTreme Vision bulbs for my GTI VII S. Problem is that I cant seem to open the rear housing of the headlight on the drivers side to gain access to make the switch. The gearbox is right behind and there is barely room to get my hand back there. Is there some trick I am overlooking?

View 8 RepliesWe operate a garage, did an oil change on a 2007 F150 with a 5.4L, with 70,000 km. A few days later, began to make noise. Owner took it to the dealer, the dealer told him it needed an upper engine rebuild. A technician at the dealership said the oil filter came apart and caused the engine damage. Scored cam guides and cam shaft damage. Installed OEM recommended, Pennzoil 5w20, and Pennzoil PZ42, Purolator manufactured. No loss of oil, proper quantity of oil installed. Sent the filter to Purolator for testing, came back 100% within specifications, no missing parts, gaskets present intact. What would cause this damage?
View 11 RepliesI have my daytime running lights on all the time since purchase in 2004 - this is the first time I am changing any kind of bulb on the car.Headlights are ok when starting car, but after it warms up the headlight goes off. Took it to my local repair shop and they said the connector was loose but that night the headlight was off again.
View 9 RepliesBought an 04 a couple of weeks ago and the passenger side headlight is way high.I turned the adjustment knob and it does nothing.The drivers side light is fine,but out of curiosity I turned that knob and it didn't do anything either.I'm thinking about buying an aftermarket assembly.
View 1 RepliesEvery now and then one of the HID headlights goes out on our 2006 Prius, seems to be a random event not favoring either headlight. Shutting the headlights off, then turning them back on again corrects the issue. The problem with using this fix is that it isn't good for the HID bulb.
