I have a 2007 Prius with HID lights. A few months ago the drivers side headlight would randomly go out. If I turned the lights off, then immediately back on, sometimes I could get the light to turn back on. Recently the passenger light started doing this as well. I'm wondering if the bulbs are going bad, or is the ballast going bad? Is there an easy way to check?
View 19 RepliesMy driver side headlight and tail lights are not working. The brake lights and turn signals still work. I checked all of the fuses and light bulbs nothing is blown. It did rain yesterday and it looks like some moisture got into the driver side headlight, not like a pool of water just some condensation on the lens.
View 7 Replies2004 Prius. Sometimes, quite randomly, the headlights will turn off. Sometimes its both, sometimes its the left only, and sometimes its the right only. This affects both main and high beams. The dash lights and tail lights may still be on (panicking doesn't give me time to confirm that), but for sure the Nav panel is still lit.
The first time this happened was when I was driving on a mountain road at night in the rain. It now happens almost every night and I have confirmed that it also happens in daytime. Road conditions (bumpy/smooth, wet/dry, dark/well lit) do not seem to be a factor.
At least once while still in my garage, when I started the car the left light was out. I can get the lights to turn back on by turning them off all the way and then back on. Nothing else works. I have replaced the relay for the lights - that didn't change anything.
I own a 2008 Prius Touring and originally it was only the passenger headlight that would go out but since I've had it replaced not only is the driver's side going out and flickering but the passenger side still shuts off! If I get the driver's headlight (which is very old) replaced will it solve the problem? Is it a deeper problem? If so what is it and how do I fix it?
View 1 RepliesI've got a 2007 Prius Touring and have been experiencing that well-documented issue with the HID. Namely, the driver side cuts out after a few minutes of being on. If I flip the lights off and on again it will come back, but will inevitably go out again.
Last summer, I removed the assembly and dumped out about a half a cup of water, and drilled a small hole to create air circulation to dry it out completely. That didn't solve the problem so I did more research. I just replaced the ballast (which was corroded as hell), and that didn't solve the problem either (to my great disappointment). I found a salvage yard that has the whole assembly from a 2008, and I'm about to try that. If even that doesn't work, then I guess it has to be a shoddy power supply from the car, correct? And, in this situation, what can be done, if anything?
All I've been able to find are folks who replaced the ballast, or who fell into the extended warranty period that Toyota so graciously enacted back in 2011 (needless to say, my car does not meet their criteria anymore).
Hear a plop plop noise when car travels forward over 7 MPH. The sound increases as speed increase. The tire isn't flat and I haven't found any debris in the tread or in the wheel. I need to know if it is safe to drive this car to the dealer (about 7 miles) to have them check the car.

View 4 RepliesI have two questions on changing the driver's side headlight on my 2008 Toyota Prius.
1. Do I have to turn off/disconnect the battery before doing this? Or as long as I have smart key off, lights off, car not on is that enough? If I do need to disconnect the battery/etc., how do I do that?
2. I have seen some tutorials on how to do this, but after I take off the circular black weather-protector cap it is hard to get it far enough out so I can work around in there. There are a couple cables/cords/bands (or something like that) right next to it. Is it risky to try and push it out more or is all that stuff pretty durable so I can pull it out more without worrying about disconnecting stuff?
I just picked up my brand new 2010 Prius II tonight (8 miles on odo). I have a small issue though the headlights (both driver and passenger has moisture/condensation in the headlights) is this normal should I be worried? I'm hoping it will go away.
View 18 RepliesAt times, not often but on my 04, when I turn headlights on, the drivers side front window will go down, and when I work the switch to make it go up, the passenger side front window will go down.
I don't have a wiring diagram for the car, so tracing the circuits would be next to impossible.
It's been my goal to get my car to run a 13 on the stock turbo for years. I got bored last night and decided to roll out to the track and finally did it. In the past I had tried just about everything, pulled the back seats out, ditched the spare, and hours of data logging timing trying to dial it in just right but never could. Of course last night I was running with a full interior, spare and even had a passenger with my timing still pulled back -2.25 deg from the summer heat, didnt even check my oil or air pressure and I pull this off

This is common on priuses with hid headlights. The passenger light will randomly go out and will come back on if you turn the switch off and back on. Sometimes it'll go a while before it does it or other times 2 miles down the road you just never know. I called a Toyota dealer and he said it was probably the bulb itself and of course wanted 200 bucks to change it, but I'm not convinced that is it. I'm thinking it could be the ballast.

View 1 RepliesHalogen Headlights keep failing on my 2007 Prius Hybrid. I'm starting a file on this because my headlights fail waaaaay too often. I first bought replacements from O'Rileys (don't know the brand) and one failed after only 3 months. . . they would not replace the bulb for free so I did buy one more bulb there. The next time I purchased two Philips bulbs at another parts store. The last ones I bought were from Napa Auto parts and I have to replace one of those. I am wishing I had kept better records because there have been more burned out low beam headlamps. . .never use the brights.

View 3 RepliesJust started experiencing an AC problem. First started with diminished cooling and airflow. Checked the filter and it was dirty, so replaced it. Airflow is completely restored however the air from the drivers side vents is significantly warmer than the passenger side vents.
View 1 RepliesMy 2006 Prius (Model NHW20) has a strange headlight problem. On the passenger side, the high beam light is out but the regular headlight works.
On the driver side, the high beam is working but the regular headlight is out.
I don't think it's the fuses but I'm not sure. No amount of interchanging the following fuses changes anything about the issue:
1. 10A H-LP HI RH
2. 10A H-LP HI LH
3. 15A H-LP LO RH
4. 15A H-LP LO LH
Last night it rained pretty hard. We were getting back into the gx and my wife ask me why the floor is wet. I thought maybe it was tracked in on our shoes. Well upon further investigating i noticed a stream coming down the inside of my dash by the obd2 connection and where your left shin would be. I pulled the scuff plates off and its flooded.
View 13 RepliesI have a strange rattling sound coming from the driver side area outside the car. BUT ... I only hear the rattling sound when I get over 50 mph. I tried to narrow it down but still no luck. Here is what I investigated so far
1) Thought it was the driver side front wheel or underside molding ... Pulled wheel and looked at the plastic molding ... Some loose so I made sure it was tightened ... Still hear noise
2) Checked the luggage rack ... Removed railings and still hear noise
3) Removed the driver side door panel to check for anything loose ... Did not find anything out of order .
4) Tightened driver side mirror ... still hear sound
I'm a proud owner of a 2005 prius which until recently ran flawlessly. For the past 2 mos, one of both of the headlights randomly turn off at nighttime. If I turn the knob off, then back on, they both work.
View 7 RepliesOnApril 3, 2014, I purchased a 2007 Lexus RX350 with 60,000 miles. It was first driven in June or July of 2006, and I was told by numerous Lexus owners that Lexus was absolutely great about any problems I might have, Lexus was fabulous about putting customer service and care first.
Sometime in mid-July, when my mechanic was changing the oil, he noticed the rack and pinion steering were leaking. I did some research and discovered the leak was relatively common in the 2007 RX350 Lexus and most owners found they didn't need to do anything about the leak unless it was severe. I chose not to fix it at that time.
In late November, early December 2015, I noticed condensation behind both headlamp lenses. The headlamp on the driver's side was beginning to rust and the ballast had already been ruined. To fix the headlamps would require a full headlamp assembly. I called a local dealership and was told there was a voluntary recall or warranty. I don't remember the exact words.
Really? Six (6) months too late for a vehicle that had 60,000 miles on it. Now a car that I've had less than two (2) years currently with 80,000 miles, will require several thousand dollars to fix the headlamps.
